Hi All,

This is a relatively decent knife for this price (As long as you don't have high expectations of it being like a Honyaki).

I use it as a beater knife when I don't want to use my Japanese knives.

Comes with a sharpener. Bonus if you can't be bothered sharpening it on a stone and it's also cheaper than buying the knife by itself.

Description:
Scanpan Classic knives are crafted from the finest grade German stainless steel. The blade is expertly ground, honed and tested. The angle is exact, uniform from bolster to tip and the curve flawlessly tapered. With their slip resistant ergonomic handles, provide a grip of comfort, security and control. The Stage Ceramic Sharpener makes sharpening in 3 easy steps. The bluestone regenerates a dull blade, creating a smooth overall surface for which to sharpen further. The pink stone creates a finer edge preparing the surface for the final stage of sharpening using the white stone to hone the knife for everyday use. The ceramic sharpening plates create a razor-sharp edge by polishing the blade to a very fine point. This 20 cm chef's knife and sharpener set are ideal for an all-rounder.

* Finest quality German stainless steel
* Superior "Hairline Finish" taper ground cutting edge
* Hardness tested to HRC 56-57

There is a big problem with the logo of the knife handle, which makes me doubt whether the knife is genuine .I bought several the brand knives before, and the workmanship is well, this time I am very suspicious. And there is a foreign object sound when the sharpener is shaken. Can I get a perfect set?

That review makes no sense. I looked at the pictures, no idea what "big problem" she's on about.

  • any comments on this?

    • If I may… Yes, THESE (or this range) of Scanpan knives is acceptable IMO. They sharpen up VERY well and will last for many, many years. However, I unreservedly do not advocate the cheap Scanpan knives as they are well… just as horrible as any super cheap knife. Much like Wiltshire… stay away from the cheap ones… otoh the more expensive ones are pretty good. Better knives can be ridiculously expensive. I feel that this is a very good deal. I'd be very surprised to hear of anyone having a bad experience with (again) THIS range of Scanpan knives, or the more expensive range of Wiltshires for that matter. Are there copies out there… maybe, but I've seen hundreds of them and haven't seen one copy yet. In fact I don't truly believe there are all that many copies out there… maybe 5% as a guess.

  • Good deal if genuine but looks suspicious so far. Any comments on how Amazon deals with purchases after receiving and finding out it is counterfeit?

Got one delivered today for a gift. It is genuine. Not that these would be worth counterfeiting to be honest.
It's sold directly by Amazon. So there's more reassurance there.

    • Amazon returns is the easiest thing ever.

    • they will let you return it through standard routes. bit of a pain to be honest (ie going to post office, pick it up, go home, its fake, package it back up, take it back to post office). if you complain enough they will refund you and let you keep the counterfeit item

    • Any comments on how Amazon deals with purchases after receiving and finding out it is counterfeit?

I got a full refund, got to keep the item and they removed it from sale… This was after the seller refunded me 50% after I complained directly, without asking me if I would accept 50% off…
So in the end, I got 150% back and got to keep the item… Pretty good service.

The single review came from someone who thought the knife may be a fake given the defect with the logo on the handle. Could well have been a "factory seconds" but I'm sure they would have received a refund or exchange if they'd ask. Shipped and sold by Amazon AU if that inspires any confidence.

As for the rattle with the sharpener, I'm pretty sure that's normal as I had one of these a long time ago and can recall that the whetstones were loosely fitted and probably by design.

    Price gone up to $48.41

At this price there is simply no reason anyone should buy any "cheap" knives (unless you prefer a wa style). We've had the older version of this for 10 years or so and it's as great as the day we got it

Getting even an affordable king 1000/6000 combo stone to sharpen instead of this one will make the edge feel a hell of a lot nicer.

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I was going to get this deal for the sharpener, but I might get that stone instead.
