  • RAM? There are two versions of the 2.2, 16GB 2GB RAM, 32GB 3GB RAM.

Seems to be 2GB from previous deals: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514450

      • Still a bargain price for the phone.

      • From that previous deal, looks like the only way to unlock is through Telstra, which costs $80 now, or $25 if you keep it on a plan for 6 months.

A 6-month Telstra plan can cost as little as $15, according to WhistleOut:

        • Unlock code is $20 on ebay.

@jimojr: Have you had success though? Lots of ebay vendors claim to have codes, but some phones are locked differently, and the ebay codes don't work. You get a refund on the codes, but it's pretty hard to return the phone.

@Russ: Never done this phone before. I bought two codes under $2 each for Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 two years.

              • @jimojr: I've unlocked a few phones before too, but I've seen it commented here on OzBargain that Telstra sometimes uses a different locking scheme, and ebay unlock codes don't work.

        • what about MVNO like aldi ?

          • @dcep: Sorry, I'm not an expert in locking, I don't know.

          • @dcep: It works with my Boost SIM but that doesn't necessarily mean it will work with others.

for $30 better than buying a pocket wifi device

    • Plus an FM radio.

  • How would this rate against an original pixel 5" performance wise?

Want something for each of the rugrats that works similarly or better to it, just wifi is fine.

Watching youtube + making videos, and whatever games little kids who don't go to school play if any.

  • How does Android one compare to normal Android os 9 and 10? Guess we can't price ow as they wouldn't have any stock.

    • +1

Android One is just a Google & Manufacturer agreement to support the phone's vanilla Android OS with software and security updates for at least 2(?) years. Android One phones are usually the most stock Android you'll get.

    • +2

You might be thinking of Android GO? the go version has apps that takes less memory, for more basic phones. Android One is vanilla Android, just with a promise of frequent updates.

  • no stock in springwood and brownsplains. so this model comes with android one or go? is this the best priced current smart phone for under $50 as a xmas present for young kids? guess i just have to try my luck in live chat with telstra to unlock for free as i am on a plan

  • I don't need another phone but I grabbed one anyway. There were none in the display cabinet in Launceston but they had them out the back.
