I've taken painkillers maybe a dozen or so times in my life (I'm in my mid thirties). I've had a bunch of surgeries, broken five bones etc, so not like I've never experienced pain. But I see so many who carry panadol around with them and take them on a near daily basis since their teenage years.

Because painkillers and opioids can give you a sense of euphoria. Not for all people however.
If you're wondering why people take it, people get addicted. As aforementioned they give people a sense of euphoria, so people who still have post-surgery pain may continue to take them because of their physical pain or habit, or their addiction to the euphoric feeling from the drugs. You don't need to be in pain to experience the high from painkillers. Now if you mix painkillers with alcohol it provides an even bigger high and is really dangerous.
Paracetamol does nothing of the sort.
Correct. They mentioned pain pills at the top of the question but then paracetamol at the end. But you are right, paracetamol doesn't get you high.

@neonlight: You’d think so, wouldn’t you. I’ve noticed quite a few medicines don’t show the country of origin any more. I’m guessing there’s a loophole in the labelling laws the manufacturers are taking advantage of. For what’s it’s worth, Amcal branded ibuprofen is made in Australia.
