Karen in The Shopping Centre Carpark

I was exiting a carpark today and at the exit a marvellous coordinated zipper merge was occurring between two lanes.
Midway Karen from the other lane decided to glance my way and after locking eyes she decided to be different. She decided to break the unspoken covenant and not give way.

She then proceeded to press the intercom and argue with the parking receptionist who kept repeating through the loud speaker 'that's not how it works'. I assume Karen overstayed her visit and wanted to avoid paying.

Please don't be like Karen and hold up 10 cars while you argue for 5 minutes. If you're scared your parking ticket will expire before you hit the gate exit, just validate it at the machine before it expires and you should have a 15 min grace period to exit.

Thank you for reading.

Did this really require a post on a bargain website?

    • The bargain is in the details. And I didn't post it as a deal as well as in an appropriate category.

Hey, to be fair, nearly all of these forum posts don't need to be posted on here

Did you honk to show “respect” to Karen? :D

    • I was very tempted to and will mostly do so next time.

I hate people who don't respect the zipper merge.

Painful if the zipper is mis-timed!
'Karen' was 'Bruce', but he mis-timed the zipper.

For free parking, I don't think validating a ticket gives any grace period. Happened to me once at a car park with free 10 minutes parking. When I validated the ticket at the machine, it was still within the free period so machine said $0 payable and have a nice day. I proceeded to leave the car park without delay. At the exit gate, when I inserted the ticket, the system said I had not paid and refused to open. Had to pay in order to get out. I sent a complaint email and the operator said tough luck, free parking period is based on time of entry and exit.

    • free 10 minutes parking

Where is this? In Perth too??

Sydney airport has 15mins free for pickup.

      • Perth Airport Short Term parking.

    MS Paint diagram please!

  • Sounds like 2020 is over.

  • Karen could have neutralized the offence with the 'Thank You' wave. Or escalated it by 'Throwing The Bird' out of the window. The following car would have been bracing himself for Karen's next move!

  • Karens in the wild. They must be on their seasonal migration from the USA.

    Great post

Common sense of course which everyone here has.

  • Frasier did something similar, refusing to pay $2.
    On principle, of course.

  • Had she just been to Bunnings?

  • I hate parking in shopping centres:
    The spaces are small.
    Time limits.
    The ticket.
    The gate.
The queue in, the queue out.
It’s like they don’t want you there, it makes little sense.
