I've been using AVS Media products for a while and it has always been reduced. One tip is don't buy the one year option as this will have the effect of stopping the product being used.

FYI, if you want to rip a DVD to play on your iPad, then you will most likely also need SlyFox or similar to get past the copy protections. AVS does not have this built in. Being a user of this software, I would also agree with the comments above (always on sale, other options available). FYI, even with SlyFox, it can still have issues with some Disney movies.

Funny… I wonder if you're looking at reviews from the same places that rates things like Bonzi Buddy and Quicktime Pro as essential purchases?

As you can see AVS is just repackaging the open source and charging a premium for it and giving it a better GUI.
I recommend those free version and make $2 gold coin donation to each, that will help the programmers to make better products and even better GUIs in our future FREE updates ;)
