Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1650 D6 OC 4GB $179 + Shipping/Pickup @ BPCTECH

522

Should be a historical low price. However this particular model is a bit noisy to run, I know it because I own it. But I never get any issues with the thermal. Always runs below 80 degrees even unde load.
Decent card for 1080p gaming.
Still in stock in mount Waverley store at time of posting.

Damn it’s cute look how stubby it is!
    ITX/HTPC dream

    • +9

      That's what she said

    • -1

Nah a silent 1030 is that.

    • +2

Probably not a really good idea. As I said, this thing is already noisy in my mid-tower case.
In an ITX it will sound like a rescue chopper.

  • Can this do VR? Is this equivalent to RX570 or RX580?

    • +1

      Can this do VR?
Not very well. I'd jump to something like a 1660 Super for VR, low framerates feel awful.

      • My RX570 is pretty poor for VR. I was wondering if this was a step up.

        • +3

Would be a complete waste of money imo, save up for something better (And chuck your old card on Ebay after)

        • Start checking FB market place for people offloading old cards as they step up to new generation

      • +2

It really depends on the application…
Medal of Honour Beyond? Hell even the 2070 super doesn't meet their requiremetns.
Beat Saber or other similar games? It probably would be fine.

The newer cards tends to be optimised better for VR than their "3dmark equivalent" higher-end predecessors.

However…. you might run into issue with 4GB of RAM, Oculus recently upgraded their requirements.. I can't remember if the minimum was 4 or 6GB.

One can't argue this is a cheap bargain but yeah…. a used 1660 OC might be a better buy, I recently sold mine second hand for about $260… so still more cash I know.

Granted the RX 5600 is still $400+, a 1660 or 2060 might be your best bet.(Used even).

Finally, if interested in VR but do not have hardware on PC yet…. consider the Oculus Quest 2. At $~479 on its own the graphics are "pleasing" while not mind blowing it is extremely capable.

AFTERTHOUGHTS: Even the Price of a used Vega 56/64 is pretty terrible and I wouldn't recommend it… it was quite large (ungainly so) and drew a heck of a lot of power….

Having owned RX580 -> Vega 56 -> RX 5700XT I have some experience with the evolution.
That being said the RX580 was decent at VR, but times have changed and the headsets have higher resolution than the CV1 I used at the time, as well as games being more demanding.

PPS: Feel free to join r/oculus or r/quest if interested

    • Yes it can. Got my kid a quest 2 and worked fine but replaced it with a older 1070 just coz its faater and additional 4gb ram..

    • In general, yes, but you won't be able to max out everything.
It can run half life:Alyx with no issues.
It runs all oculus stuff pretty smoothly. I have this card and ran oculus rift S now quest 2 with it.
I'd say if you want VR, this is the least expensive option.
Steam VR performance test rate this card as VR ready for sure.

No I am not sure. I own a 1650 super not 1650. The above was describing a 1650 super not 1650.

      • Means this shouldn't be as loud as it'll use a little less power.

      • +2

Hey mate, I had the 1650 Super of this model and I flashed the bios to the windforce model so I could lower the fan speed below 59%. I did that with an undervolt and it was super quiet.

Worth a shot if you don't mind flashing a GPU.

  • +4

Ive been waiting for the $199 1650 super deal to come back. Not sure this card is worth it at $180

    • +5

I agree. The 1650 super is a lot faster than the 1650 for not much more

  • bloody secondhand market still have rx570, 1050ti, 970 around this price

    • I bought a used 5600 XT for 290 last week

      • Hey I'm interested in buying second hand, where did you look?

I'm worried about buying something that doesn't work and seller saying it worked for them

        • +1

Tbh, it's risky. I tried buying stuff from FB marketplace for the first time
The seller was pretty friendly. Still don't know why he sold it for that price (maybe he needs quick cash). The card comes with box and a copy of receipt. I tried the card and didn't detect any issue. It's for a friend's PC

  • How’s this stack against a GTX970?

    • +1

      Mhmm tough call.
I think the 1660 is very similar to a 980 performance wise (obviously not feature wise the 1660 wins there).
These are the next step down from each here so I’d say close but if the raw performance is the same the newer card will be better supported and require less power and space.

    • +1

Assuming you're asking because you own a 970 already, it's not really an upgrade.

  • +5

The 1650 Super for $189 delivered was much better

    • +1

Yep, currently running that card which was purchased on that deal. Quite a lot better than this one.

  • damn, I bought the low profile version from mwave for $269 last week

  • +2

Should really spring for the super model, it's in a whole different league.

  • -2

Everytime I see a GPU on the front page, it's never the 3080.

  • Is this a decent upgrade from 1050ti?

Looking to upgrade a new gfx card

    • What's your budget? The 1650 card is not really the best bang for buck card. Better alternatives are 1650S or 1660

You will get 15fps MAX increase going from 1050ti to 1650

    • I would not bother to upgrade to this from 1050ti - negligible performance uplift. Seeing as you've waited this long, give it a few more months and the 3050Ti or something similar from Radeon will be a great upgrade for you.

      • wow, i didn't know 3050ti will be coming out. Will there be a low profile version? I got desperate and ordered 1650 low profile from mwave for $269. Should I cancel?

        • You won't get a 3050ti for a while

          • +1

@scottySK: They just announced the 3050 Ti and 3050 (source: Lenovo product listing).

            https://youtu.be/i1mvV5WH0io?t=1449

            • @Budju: If true, what a burn job to all 3070 buyers when the 3060 launches with more vram haha hopefully they speed this up and actually get stock out to consumers

              • @scottySK: Yes it doesn't make a lot of sense, which is why they think it's possibly a mistake. Still, it looks like we'll have those lower tier cards soonish which will be interesting. Also DLSS on a 3050 could work wonders in some games (speculated cause of the denoted RTX on the listing).

              • @scottySK: Looking at the 3060 specs, they are pretty bad apart from the ram. Not much better than a 3050 Ti, so I guess this is for special people who need bulk ram for whatever reason.

                https://videocardz.com/newz/lenovo-confirms-geforce-rtx-3050…

        • There will be something on the more budget end of the scale coming out soon enough, even if it's just a 3050 or a rx 6500.

        • Non-super? I mean i think that's a tiny upgrade for you for $270

          • @Budju: yes non super. Its ddr6 version so 10-15fps increase

            • @Homr: You've waited since pascal and that price isn't good. I got the 1650 super for $189 but if you need low profile it complicates things. Id just stick with the low profile 1050ti and get a whole new system when the next gen budget cards come out

              • @Budju: Yes I'm a huge fan of SFF builds to thats why I bought the 1650 because my options are limited. And reading that a better newer low profile card won't be released for awhile…if ever….

                • @Homr: Good small form factor cases support full size graphics cards. You can't count in good low profile cards anymore, they never even made 1650 super low profile. I guess they'll make a low profile 3050 at some stage.

There is a good new itx case coming out this year from lian li and ncase, and then there is the nr200

                • @Homr: Just so you are aware it looks like the 3050 and 3050 Ti will come out fairly soon:

                  https://youtu.be/i1mvV5WH0io?t=1449

                  • @Budju: Thanks, will there be a low profile 3050ti

                    • @Homr: Nobody knows buddy. If anything the 3050 will be the most likely to be low profile

                      • @Budju: exciting times

                      • @Budju: just did some more digging. A low profile card requires 75w, the 3050 card requires 90w so a low profile version may not get released this gen at all.

                        • @Homr: Seems like 90 watt might be right. Well hopefully you can sell your low profile 1050ti for $125-150 on marketplace

                          • @Budju: 90w cannot run on PCIE by itself so it won't be low profile.

Yeh selling my 1050ti for that price will be will be my goal

                          • @Budju: Sold it for $110, I listed it for $135, was it a good price to sell?

                            • @Homr: Mmmm hard to say. I'd probably have stuck to $125 minimum but I live in a place where things sell for more generally (Darwin, remote). At the end of the day pre-covid I've seen 1050ti not low profile sell for $150 new so… It's fine.

                              • @Budju: The $110 buyer wanted me to deliver it so I canned the deal and relisted it. Another buyer offered for $119 and I accepted it, they are going to pick it up today. I had a few enquiries overnight aswell, in hindsight I probably should've listed it for $150

Some retailers are selling it for $300+ brand new on Ebay which I don't understand why

                                https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-OC-…

                                • @Homr: Yeah I'd suggest you could have listed for 150 and hoped for offers of 130-140. I actually own that exact card myself and use it in a dell small form factor 9020 optiplex. Great little lan pc which fits into a backpack. $120 is fine though

                                  • @Budju: Yeh I'm surprised I got so many enquiries.

                                    So I've paid $150 for 15-25fps increase

Now I wait for 3050ti low profile, if it ever comes out haha

                  • @Budju: The 3050 looks interesting, thanks!

Can’t find any info/speculation on release date though. Have you seen any predictions on timeframe?

        • Yes you should cancel

  • +2

While it's refreshing to see a budget GPU having a decent discount here, this is honestly not worth it imo, even at this price. The 1650 Super is a far more capable card at (almost always) the same price, so unless you NEED this NOW (for whatever reason), I'd suggest waiting for that. If you're saving up while waiting, you can also look into getting a 1660 Super. It's about $150 more than this deal on avg., but for 1080p on a budget, its the bee's knees

    • Wouldn't 1660s be more of a 1440p on a budget card

  • +2

    Looking for a 1660S…..

    • +1

      $500 and it's yours

  • +2

I’m a bit surprised this has received so many votes. Doesn’t look like good value to me, and the comments above mostly share the same sentiment.

  • +2

People get confused with 1650 and 1650 Super thinking they are the same thing. The non super 1650 has 41% of the GPU cores disabled, also issue is some are DDR5 vs DDR6, you really need to do a lot reading before hand to make an informed purchase. This deal is not good but is the best deal for non super 1650, probably people should focus on the cheapest 1660 range, but the minimum would be 1650S.

    • -3

you really need to do a lot reading before hand to make an informed purchase.

Tbh I personally would not read that much for a sub $200 graphics card.

      • +2

I hope you realise what site you're on.

  • +2

I had the faster super variant of this card (same design , looks identical) , it was obnoxiously loud, so I got rid of it. The lowest fan speed is 1900RPM, even at idle when the GPU core temp is as low as 30C (you cannot control this with software, its limited by the BIOS) . Avoid it unless your PC is tucked away under a desk as far from you!. Besides, this is around 25% slower than the 1650 Super, which isn't all that fast to begin with : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Go1NCKmo0A
However, if this had a good fan design with a good fan control curve, this isn't a bad price. The only reason I'm down voting is because of the noise.

  • How much RAM do you really need on the video card these days? Why did it cost more than pc ram

    • I'd say 6gb+ but you can scrape by with 4 for a budget card

You can't say it costs more since it isn't sold separately and few cards have ram variants

    • 4GB is ideal for an entry level card like the 1650, more VRAM won’t make newer games run any better at higher details settings or resolutions on a 1650. But generally speaking, if you want to play ne games with high detail @1440p then you should look at a mid range card like a 2060 Super / 3060 Ti or higher with at least 8GB of VRAM.

  • just installed my new low profile 1650 gddr6 on my SFF machine

Getting 20 to 25fps increase compared to my old 1050ti, so happy with my purchase even though it cost me an extra $269
