This is the second gen after the first one hit a brick wall and dieded.

I picked one up for the missus, since we had to return her first generation ones.

I'm interested, but I could buy a lot of earplugs for that kinda dosh

    • that's fair enough, we buy a lot of those earplug value packs from the supermarkets as well. They tend to go missing all the time so I figured this might motivate her to put it back into the case haha

      • Yeah I just buy an industrial packet from Bunnings once or twice a year lol, I'd love to try these, if they were good they could be worth the investment but I'm not willing to put the cash down to find out

        • +1

Last time around, after poor sales, Bose did a try for 30 days or get your money back. Give it time, nobody is buying these thing I bet.

Sleepbuds™ play content only from the Bose Sleep app.

I feel like they'd sell 100 times more if it could play your own music or podcasts etc.

    • just use your own TWS buds?

    • +1

I don’t believe they can get them this small and play music.

The size of these is amazing.

      • just get some in ears and play Marconi Union - Weightless

  • https://www.amazfit.com/en/zenbuds.html seem like as good a product as Bode for 1/3 the price.

    • +2

There will always be knockoffs though, perhaps not as good in practice like all cheapo TWS for example

      • @onlinepred do you own the TWS ones? I'm thinking of getting something like these for sleeping (white noise for me only - don't want my partner to be disturbed) but what I'm finding with these cheaper earbuds is that they scream a 'BATTERY LOW' type indicator which jolts you right out of sleep. Do the TWS ones do that?

      • -2

Honestly, the Bose were so poor quality both hardware and software, that I'd give Realmi a shot over going Bose again.

        • -7

Based on what? your personal opinion?
Bose is the best, you get what you pay for.

          • +1

@kml22: I have a number of Bose products but I can only laugh at that

            • @lostn: They literately canceled the product and offered EVERYONE a refund because of manufacturing problems. My buds stopped accepting uploads then stopped connecting all together within 2 months.

              https://www.slashgear.com/bose-sleepbuds-discontinued-heres-…

Also I have a pair of QC2, and look at that the cups degraded after a year, whereas my AT's lasted 4 years.

So yeah, carry on Bose fan boy, the rest of us will remain realistic.

              • @Nalar: Although I agree that the first version was a shame, Bose was happy to replace the sleepbuds without questions. I bought from VideoPro and had three replacements directly from Bose. My last pair was still working fine, but they replaced with the new version anyway. This is the kind of commitment we don't see very often.

Anyway, my second version is still going strong. Sometimes I use with the sound, sometimes just the buds without the sound are good enough, acting as a physical barrier.

It's a big investment, but it can be life changing if you are a light sleeper, or have someone snoring next to you, and that works for you. The new version fits better, they solved the problem of the "rubbing noise" (buds against the pillow), and connection issues. I have no complaints and just hope the battery will last years.

                • +1

@this is us: if it didn't offer refunds it would have been political suicide.

Samsung recalled every Note 7, including the non-exploding ones and offered 50% off the next phone. They had to do it.

If your product is defective in design, you have to recall all of them, even the ones that haven't shown signs of it yet because it could later. Car makers do this all the time.

      • What are the TWS ones? Would like a wireless option.

    • Has anyone tried them?

      • +2

Yes. Much better so far than version 1 in terms of connectivity, charging etc. I would say the sounds are slightly different than previous, even if they have the same names. There are more sounds to choose from but limited by small memory size to about ten, I think.
Videopro are offering them cheaper than myer did in the post Xmas sale, and from previous experience, wouldn't hesitate to go with them. Also bose have been really good with their service - the first set of version 2 I got were a replacement for the replacement that Bose had already sent me. Yes it sucked that they had so many issues first time around but they did the right thing, withdrawing it from sale, and providing replacement or refund.
These things save my sleep in ways that the zen buds don't - the zen seemed good but from the app to lack of customer support, they've just been a huge issue. See their Facebook group for an example of how not to engage with your funding base.

        • When did you get your buds replaced to gen 2? I returned mine (3rd time) around Aug and got Gen 1's again, I think this was just before the Gen 2 were released

          • @Nalar: I called up I guess in early September? I was just hoping for another working set and was surprised that they'd offer v 2.

            • @TheRealCher: I was told on the phone that my V1 were "improved and they fixed a lot of issues" but I never opened them since I was sick of dealing with them.

Might try getting them replaced again and see if they send me V2

              • @Nalar: There a a conversation on here in the forums I think where the issue was discussed. Technically the second gen of Version 1 were supposed to be better but they were plagued by the same issues - one not being detected by the app so neither working, one not being charged, the magnet on the back which holds them in place for charging coming off etc.
The last replacement of v1 they sent worked for maybe wo weeks. Because I'd bought two pairs and they had already told me they would send me a version 2 I was OK with it but it was infuriating - a lot has to do with the app and it not talking with old versions, or needing to update the firmware in the charger. They're a nightmare and luckily we get decent customer service here in Oz… From what I've read on the net, people have had the run around overseas.
I guess I'd suggest going with what they sent you, seeing if it works and if they do, great; if they don't, call up support and ask if they might be able to help with a solution - I didn't ask for a replacement and was genuinely surprised when they offered it.

I've got these and I can't use them because of the super short (5 sec) audio clips that loop. It's too easy to notice the point where it loops and once I hear that, it's super distracting.

Other than that though, they're great, they're really comfortable it's just really disappointing that I can't use them.

      • Glad to see that pointed out. Had the same issue with a portable radio type noise masker years ago.

  • +4

I have this one, I have to say it's good if you have loud kids at home…
I don't mind it can't play music…play white noise is enough for me

  • Can anyone suggest any small ear plugs for sleep small enough to be able to sleep sideways comfortably?

    • Little silicon ones on ebay and aliexpress work OK for me. Depending on which ones might need to trim them so dont point out too much for side sleeping. They are like a dollar or 2 per pair.

    • +1

I've been using Flents for nearly 10 years. The price on a 50 pair pack is insanely cheap compared to buying from a supermarket or chemist and they have one of the highest NR ratings. Plus super comfy in your ears. Make sure you get the green ones though, not the purple. You'll notice there is a difference in shape between the two.

I've tried dozens of different types in the past and I honestly couldn't use anything else after using them for so long.

      • +1

Interesting. Have you used different types of Silicon ones? I have not tried those Flents so will look into it more. I tried all the foam ones i could find in shops and they were all quite poor, the silicon ones are soft and get a good seal which is important where i live it can be noisy.

        • +1

Yep, silicon best I've used. Silicon that played white noise would be good ;)

        • +1

Yeah I used silicon ones before the Flents. My mum runs a metal fabrication workshop so she'd always have loads of silicon ones. Some of the ones with the cord on them were OK but you need to cut in a little bit deeper so there isn't that hard bit sticking out. Which in turn makes it more difficult to get out of your ears lol

So long as you you pull on the top of your ear when inserting (like everyone should) you should get a nice, deep seal.

    • I use the Maxrock sleep earbuds but theyre corded, usually $20-25 plus delivery from Amazon US, free if youre a prime subscriber and spend over $49 (I usually buy three pairs at a time). They do tend to have one ear go after about 6-9 months for me, but might be the way I sleep.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07GZJRDFF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_f…

Would reccommend them if you don't need wireless.

Edit: replied to wrong comment, sorry

    • I've found Mack's ultra soft earplugs to be the best in my search. Woolies sell a 5 pair pack, amazon have the 50 pack.

    • I use Mack’s original earplugs and can sleep sideways comfortably without them coming off.

These are softer and smaller, pretty good. Still, I'd avoid using ear plugs too often. They can lead to impacted wax.

  • after the first one hit a brick wall and dieded.

Thank you. Learned a new word.

I guess you know what site I frequent now :P

  • For a sec I thought it said noise making 😂

    • +1

      I mean… technically…

    • This price is from bose epp

    • I'd consider buying at that price unfortunately not affiliated

An alternative is the Lectrofan noise masking machine. I have this one on my bedside table and this guy (actually the 1st gen) for travelling. Much cheaper solution and good WAF (at least in my case). Lots of different dynamically generated sounds, no loops here.

Crank one up and you could sleep through a tornado. I find them great for masking tinnitus.

    • Or just "Hey Google, play white noise" if you have a Google Home or Nest.

    Died*

Two shots of scotch does the same work.

  • Are these only meant for people who sleep on their back?

Having a piece of hard plastic wedged between your ear and pillow can't be very comfortable. Looks like it would stick out about an inch also

    • No, they sit completely in the ear.

  • Does it work on a plane?

    • Yes, there is even a plane noise if you want to keep the same background noise.

      • does it actually help you sleep though? it's so uncomfortable and noisy.

        • Yes, it does. You have to find the most appropriate track and volume level for you. For instance, I don't like meditation dings and birds; I like continuous noises such as warm static or rainfall. It helps because the continuous noise masks all the other noises (snoring, cars, dogs, neighbours) that would usually wake me up. As I said, sometimes I just wear them and don't play any noise, and that might be good enough depending on how much noise you have around.

Thought I'd share my experience, seeing as I owned the Bose Sleepbuds (gen I), the Amazfit (Xiaomi) ZenBuds, and the Bose Sleepbuds II.

The original Bose Sleepbuds made a huge difference to my sleep quality and ability to fall asleep quickly and easily. They also were great to use during the day to block out distracting noise to help with studying or just zoning out. However, they did have issues with the battery technology, but Bose were prompt to replace mine under warranty. After 2 replacements, I eventually settled for the recall and got a refund.

I saw the kickstarter for the Amazfit ZenBuds and backed them. At the time, Bose had not yet announced their gen II sleepbuds, and for $70USD, the ZenBuds were worth a shot. Overall, the ZenBuds good for their cost. They're tiny and comfortable. But they really fall short on software and sound quality. The sound loops are far too short and quickly become obvious, which ruined their ability to help me sleep.

Then, enter the Bose Sleepbuds II. I ordered them as soon as they were announced, using the refund I had received for the original ones. They're everything the original ones were and more. Since receiving mine I have had no issues. The design has been improved, they fit my ears more comfortably, they no longer have the squeaking issue for side sleepers, the charging case has been drastically improved, and the improvements to the app and new sounds have been excellent.

Bottom line: The Bose Sleepbuds II are well worth their money if you are looking for something to improve your sleep quality via auditory means. In my opinion its not worth buying the cheaper options, especially considering Bose can offer a 90 day risk-free trial, if you just want to try them out. The overall experience and quality Bose offers, from hardware, to software, to sound engineering, simply cannot be beat. Yes, its very expensive, but in my experience, the health benefits were well worth it.

Don't buy these expecting them to double up as wireless earbuds, they physically cannot do that. They are specifically engineered around minimal power consumption, which is partly achieved by not streaming audio over bluetooth, instead the buds themselves store the sounds on them, which the app can control to play/pause. This also allows them to work in a "phone free" mode.

    • does this thing cure insomnia?

      Does it require an app?

      • I found it helped my insomnia, particularly because I historically have found that white noise/rain sounds help me sleep. But it's hard to say how effective it can be for any given person. I'm not sure what the return policy is on VideoPro's offer for this. If they're a certified Bose seller, it might still be eligible for the 90 day no-questions return policy via Bose. Otherwise, safest option is to buy direct from Bose Australia.

Yes it requires the Bose Sleep app.
You use the app to start/stop the sounds, you can set a timer for how long sounds play for. You also can set up alarms that will play through the buds to wake you up (useful if you have a partner sleeping beside you that you don't want to disturb). The app is also used to transfer sounds to the buds, update firmware, etc. If you enable "phone free" mode, you can use the buds without the app, but with limited control.

        • i'm the opposite. I can't stand noise. I want dead silence.

  • +1

I could go sleepless with $320 hole in my wallet

  • Returned these, then purchased a sleep machine for a 100$. Then worked just fine.

After a while, google max speakers were on sale for 50% off so I bought one and use it as a speaker and for rain sounds. Isolation may not be as great but the sound of the rain is loud enough to help me sleep and manage my tinnitus.

Just tell google to play rain sounds, and the rest is history :)

  • these are a nice small fit for sleeping, only play ambient backgrounds via the app, not music, but 1st gen had a stupid design flaw where the tiny little magnet that holds them in charge position on the case would come out as only weakly glued in, and they would stop charging reliably. Absolutely daft design of an otherwise good product. I would hope they have fixed that issue on this model, but seems a similar type of magnet adhesion so would check reviews for longevity as they are very expensive.

As a shift worker these gen 2 are amazing. It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing them and can sleep on my side without any discomfort. Wife used them as well and has purchased her own pair!
