Flex Deal is back @ $857.08, which is $0.03 lower than the cheapest price according to Camelx3. Loved by most, criticized by others, I welcome you to read the prior comments. I personally own 1 and I love it. The biggest downside to me is no thunderbolt 3 support with USB-C and the screen is only good for indoor use (Not bright enough for outdoor use). I think with the stats, it's still one of the best value machines goings with a decent touch and pen.

There was a lot more when I Posted. I have expired. It likely will come back in stock in an hour and keep doing this.

I bought one about 3months ago for abit lower price, my thoughts are that it looks discreet but the materials are hard plastic.

The hinge system is flawed but i only use it for general use.
Display is very dim and is the main thing i hate about it.
When closing the lcd display to a close, laptop stays on when charging cord is in still so you need to manually shutdown or keep taking the cord out when you close it.

Despite some flaws it does provide great speed for tasks and light gaming is fine. Just treat it with care and should last a few years. For $800 u can't go wrong!

Also forgot to mention the battery last very long and i am happy with the performance in that aspect.

You should be able to change behaviour of lid closure from sleep to shutdown in the settings.

  • I bought this bad boy when it was $998. https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08D69XNG1

I'll keep a look out for a price drop and post it. This Lenovo deal has more RAM, but you can upgrade the RAM on the Asus at least.

Credit to Pharmacy (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/145433) for his prior post (and text which I have mostly copied and pasted).

Flex Deal is back @ $849.52, which is a new historic low by about $8 according to Camelx3.

    • Sorry AMD noob here , is Ryzen 5 4500U equivalent to i5 series of Intel?
Why is AMD Ryzen so popular lately?

      Thanks in advance.

      • +5

the AMD 4000 series APU is much more powerful than Intel equivalent, theres nothing on Intel side even i7 that can match it

      • +1

No it's somewhat faster than an i7. Depends on the task really.

The i5 equivalent is the Ryzen 3 4300U

      • +2

Tier wise in AMDs offering they are roughly equivalent.

Actual performance is a whole other story. As of 10th gen Intel (haven't really looked into 11th gen), nothing really holds up against the r5-4500u except Intel's higher power H-series, especially in productivity workloads. Somehow the r5-4500u manages to put out similar performance but much more efficiently.

Gaming… It's onboard graphics holds it back a bit but it competes well with Intel's best integrated graphics offering.

Basically they're popular because Intel is stale and AMD's offerings are huge bang for buck.

        • Wow thank you guys. I'm surprised AMD has advanced so much. Thumbs up.
          How about reliability wise?

          • +1

@sol3x: Reliability of the AMD cpus are good, if not great. However when it comes to laptops the onus is really on the brand to make sure they’ve designed something to adequately cool the cpu etc, so always best to look for reviews of the specific laptop to get an idea of the pros n cons. If designed and executed properly there is no issues with reliability from the AMD side of things.

How's the warranty process? Seems like it's got neg reviews for warranty ,but tempted af to buy this for studies.

    • +1

Wow that's a long delivery time

    • Everyone's buying laptops at the last-minute for back to school, which is why the delivery date is in mid-march.

    • "Currently not available"

    • Somehow I can place an order? The price is now $863.28.

      • +1

Yes, but it restocks March 16th

  • Back in stock. $875.02

  • +1

https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/ideapad/flex-… $909 for Australian stock but only 8GB RAM

  • Is this definitely with Finger Print Reader?
Price right now showing as $1,115.20… I've been stalking the older deal but seems dead.

At this price following option may be better (includes Pen & Reader):
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08B643THT/ref=ox_sc_ac…
"Newest Lenovo Flex 5 14" FHD IPS Touchscreen Premium 2-in-1 Laptop, AMD 4th Gen Ryzen 5 4500U, 16GB RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader, Digital Pen Included, Windows 10"

    • Yes, it is a fingerprint reader. If you look at 3xcamel, this item is reduced every few days. Set up a watch with 3xcamel for the laptop. It has been reduced 12 times since the start of Jan and between 19th Jan to start of Feb was at the lower price. It's been a week, so I think tomorrow or Sunday. You need to wait for them to reload the amazon direct stock for the lower price

    • Also, its worth the wait. Prob best-priced laptop I have ever owned. Quality and specs are very good for this price. I also get around 10hrs on battery which is nice with the ryzen processor

      • Many Pharmacy - I was not aware of the multi-camel… Perhaps your update has saved me from my OzBogan status being revoked !!! :P

        • Many thanks eben

  • We are looking for a Laptop because my son's 2yo Lenovo lid is unhinged and cracked. I showed him this deal and he said he would rather another brand with lower specs for same price.

This is also plastic so I imagine the quality to be poor. Screen sounds similar too, difficult to use in classrooms with bright natural light.

Looking at a 14" $780 Acer Ryzen 3 with metal chassis. Local stock.
