Confirmed by matchray that it is a 2nd generation Sandy Bridge i7.
Also from CC's Facebook: Centre Com This y560 has a i7 2630QM (2nd gen sandy) and does not have USB3.0.

Just got one today from Centrecom Sunshine! My local Centrecom is dodgy, and wouldnt honour.

Oh wells, the 3 hour round trip on public transport was worth it! :)

      • So can I still go to Centrecom in Sunshine and order 1 now? Coz I'm gonna have a trip to Melbourne soon.

        • When I went, I was told there was 30-40 in stock. When you arriving in Melbourne?

You can give them a call and explain your situation. They may be willing to leave one aside for you if they have enough left.

        • On 28th. A bit late I assume? May ask a mate to buy it for me haizzz.

        • Oooh, ask your friend to buy it for you first then!

Just make sure you don't forget to put the cashback through!

Also, when I purchased it, they asked for my ID to record name and address.

Something to do with cashback verification, so you may want to check that.

Call Centrecom anyways, just to see if they are willing to put it on hold for you!

        • Thanks heaps mate. Gonna do it tmw at office lol.

  • Can this laptop accept 2x8GB DIMMs to make it 16GB RAM?

    • I'm pretty sure the max is 4GB per slot so probably not.

      • Hmm Centre com seems to be offering the upgrade! http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/0646mum-lenovo-y560-0646…

        • I checked it on Crucial.com. Could be wrong.

        • Hi - I bought one of the Y560Ps from centrecom hawthorn several days ago based on them saying that it was capable of taking 2 x 8GB sticks (which they didn't have in stock). As the main purpose of this machine for me is virtualisation, i was worried by the crucial website. I've just spent 35 mins on hold to lenovo. Their initial response was that there is no such thing as an 8GB SO-DIMM. When i told them that they seemed to be available, they then asked what OS i was using. I said win 7 pro at which case they were going to say they couldn't answer my question until i told them i haven't upgraded yet and it is the home premium they shipped with. They then went away for another 10 mins and came back with the answer that the mainboard wouldn't support/recognise an 8GB stick.

I'm not 100% confident in the answer based on their initial responses. If anyone has actually physically tried it and can let me know if it works I'd really appreciate them letting me know.

Even though 16GB capacity is important to me, i can't seem to get too annoyed at picking up a 8gb ram, 1gb gfx, 2nd gen i7 w 750gb hdd for $599 :)

  • Hi guys,

Just to give you some update. I have got my laptop yesterday and I can comfir 2 things:

    1. For all those ordered before the spec change, you will get the correct specs which is 8G ram & 750G HDD

    2. On the Centrecom invoice the model number is different from the website which means YES u CAN claim cashback from Lenovo.

Some addtional info about the switchable graphic issue: There is a guy made a customised driver to force switchable graphic on this laptop. I am going to reinstall the windows 7 and implement that driver. Hopefully it would work otherwise the power consumption is pretty bad for a SandyBridge laoptop. When the laptop is idle with screen off it uses almost 19Watt & youtube 1080p playback with almost 30Watt. I bought a Lenovo E520 (i3-380m/IGP) for a friend and it was on 9W idle and around 18W 1080p youtube playback.

    Max

    • @maxhu.

If you get the switchable graphics working on it i'd love to give it a try myself. Have you got a pointer to the driver?

Received mine yesterday as well and immediately created restore discs and wiped the HDD and put a vanilla install of Windows7 Ultimate on it. So far performance has been phenomenal but haven't really tested battery life yet.

      • I'm not too concern about battery life since I am just going to use it as an HTPC (Pretty sweet that we have this deal. It is even cheaper than building our own i7 HTPCs and its bloody power efficient comparing to desktop parts).

Anyway, take a look at this and please let me know if you could make it work :).

        • Thanks. I'll certainly give that a go over the next few days.

        • Don't think it will work, these are for y560 which has the hardware for switchable gfx, y560p lacks the hardware!

        • Yer, you might be right.

    • Yup, there is no way to enable switchable graphics bcoz they didnt include the switch on the motherboard. Sad face!

  • Is there any way to find out if my cashback application was accepted? Or do I have to wait for 3 months?

    • They will get back to you after 1-2 weeks. Then 1-3 month to wait.

      • I got an automated email pretty much straight away saying that it will be verified (I assume with centrecom) and the cash card will arrive in 12 weeks.

I fully intend putting the $150 towards a nice SSD and a a caddy to convert the optical bay into a HDD bay to use the 750GB drive as storage.

  • Does anyone know when they changed the order? I'm pretty sure it said 8gb of ram and i7-2630 when I ordered the laptop on the 17th, but the online invoice I have says its the Y560 "0646MUM". Can someone Help with this.

    • I think they changed it on the 19th. If you ordered when the site showed the Y560P spec you should get a Y560P.

I would have thought that all orders placed when the Y560P spec was up would have been fulfilled by now.

      • Laptop came this afternoon and thankfully, it's the Y560P. Now all I have to do is wait for their cashback webpage to start responding
