Can't find any comment re. touchscreen. If it were touchscreen, I'd grab one for sure.

      Itā€™s non touch

This looks like it might be a relevant review - https://www.laptopmag.com/au/reviews/acer-aspire-5-2020

  • This actually is pretty decent, might have to get one!

  • Does anybody know if this is a TN or IPS panel?

    • I've read that it's IPS

  • Looks good for the money, especially with upgradeable ram.

Not sure how it's 20GB max though - surely either 16 or 24?

Might be a weird standard 8gb configuration like 4gb soldered on and a 4gb stick with 1 spare slot?

      • Yeah that would make sense

Correct - I bought one from Harvey's on Black Friday for $699 - can't fault it

It is 4GB soldered and 1 slot - I took out the 4GB SODIMM (retained for warranty) and added an $89 16GB from MSY - making 20.

There's also a bay for a 2.5" HDD. I took apart a 2TB Seagate portable and added that

Honestly, I've yet to find anything wrong with it

        • Thanks for letting us know that 16Gb Sodimm is now $89 at MSY. I last bought 8Gb Kingston for $49 at MSY. Cheers.

    • Probably includes intels Optane memory.

  • With the 20GB RAM max config, expect it to be 4GB soldered and free slot for a 16GB RAM stick.

  • Is there anything for less than $600 similar to this?
    Max budget is $600 :(

    • Best chance is to try and get a good discount on gift cards, look for ex-display models or look at Amazon's offerings (if you don't mind waiting).

Not sure how much you'll get under $600 from a brick and mortar store with these specs.. maybe an i3?

Try Dell if their sale isn't over. With cashback or a lucky voucher from classifieds might find one you like.

  • What is the SSD type in this? SATA M.2 I assume?

    • Yes, this is correct. Also has a hard drive slot for a regular 2.5 inch SSD Drive
