New Mobile Plan for Mum

Hi all
Mum is currently on telstra postpaid, thinking to transfer her to other cheaper plan eg Boost or Coles ? I am with Boost. Would there still be porting issues from Telstra to Boost? What would be your recommendation for easy porting? She mainly use it for calls only so not fuss about data.

Thank you all.

How about the Aldi $89 365 day pack?

  • You can get great value if you get a prepaid 1 year plan - look at boost, kogan, amaysim, etc.

  • I'm thinking of woolworths for the next phone plan as you get 10% off your first shop every month. Worth considering. $60 for 180 days

Catch Connect (uses Optus) has 60GB for $80.10 (UniDays code required)
    Deal Link

Also worth keeping an eye on the Prepaid mobile plans tag for other plans/deals

  • Coles $99 deal

  • You haven't mentioned if the phone is locked to Telstra and how long she has had it.
Best to make sure you use a Telstra carrier if you change, because it is best.
Boost is the only one you can use if your phone is locked.
You can get it unlocked by paying up to $80 or less, depending on length of time she has had it.
If you do go for unlocking, do it with Telstra and not with the Dodgy Bros. you can find on Ebay.
Porting your number is no problem with any carrier as long as you listen to the instructions. And yes there are some good longtime prepaid deals.

    • She's had it for a few years no longer in contract.

To go from Telstra postpaid to Boost pre paid you will need to call Telstra and have the post paid moved to pre paid and then you can port it to Boost no problem (except Telstra tried to talk me out of it so if your mum is easily bamboozled then have her call then then verbally give you permission to act on her behalf and you can take over from there). I have done this just recently.

Just port it out from Telstra to a prepaid sim from any optus or vodafone company. That should automatically terminate any postpaid contracts (careful if you are still on lock period as you would have to pay more).

Then port to boost from any other company other than a Telstra network using one

Belong mobile $10 a month. Can't go wrong.

    • I'm also looking for a new plan- can you port your number or have to order the Belong sim (just checked their site briefly) cheers

      • You Can port. Bit harder if you're with Telstra apparently cos Belong uses Telstra's network (you might need to contact belong to do the port)

        • No worries, seems like an alright deal. Currently with Optus, the current 12m contract just up so back to $55/m (was $41), get 80GB which is alright but should be cheaper deals around with a bit less data
          Thanks,

        • I cant seem to find $10 a month on their website.. everything seems harder with Telstra!

          • @rocketstar: Just found this for you.

            From belong site:
            I thought you offered a $10 smaller 1G plan?

We did, but as of 23 July Belongs $10 plan will no longer be available for new sign-ups.

            How does this affect you?

If you're already on the $10 plan, this won't affect you. You'll remain on the plan.

Once you've signed up, you'll be able to change over to the $10 plan at the start of your next billing month. You can also stay on the $25, switch to the $40 plan or cancel the service.
