Nice. I'll take 15% on Dan's via CR over 20% on First Choice via Shopback

    • why

      • +5

Dan's prices are usually lower. Plus more selection

      • +25

There is a distaste for shopback amongst the community

        • -7

          Not really

          • +8

@raiseyoursteaks: People are quick to forget that their personal information was stolen and Shopback only reached out to customers once… very late at night.

        • +1

Good when/if you finally get it 3 months later..

ps any notable specials or all jacked up?

  • Cool, time to use that $5 prezzee wish eGift card that's actually a DM card

    • +1

Cashback is eligible if using WISH or Dan Murphy's gift cards as payment - Nice

      • Edit: I read that wrong

  • +2

Just in time to stock up for Australia Day. Get on the beers!

  • +1

Hi TA, any good beer deals?

  • Hmmmm 15% cashback with DM or 10% off sitewide and 10% cashback with Liquorland. Anyone good at maths assuming same price for a case of beer?

    • +2

Your beer will be 19% off at Liquorland with the sidewide and cashback but cashback excludes GST which wasn't factored into the calculations

      • Cool so better at Liquorland then.

        • Possibly. Dan's will calculate cashback inclusive of GST (well they did last month during a normal purchase)

          • @kerfuffle: I might wait then, order tomorrow through DM.

            • @onetwothreefour: How much is the beer at the moment on both Liquorland and Dan's (assuming they both sell the same case size)?

              • @kerfuffle: $78 for a case.

                • @onetwothreefour: Quick Maths says it’ll be cheaper overall at Liquorland
                  $78x0.9/110x100x0.9=$57.44

                  Dan Murphy’s
                  $78x0.85=$66.30

                  • @kerfuffle: Ok thanks for your help!

                  • @kerfuffle: Liquorland equation should be: $78 x 0.9 / 1.1 x 1 x 0.9

                    • @fordprefect: The answer is still the same?

                      • @kerfuffle: Yes, when the operator precedence is correctly applied. (But both formulas are still incorrect.)

                    • +1

@fordprefect: Why are you multiplying by 1?

                      • @puffinfresh: fordprefect is just repeating kerfuffle's equation exactly but with the 110 and 100 values replaced with the presumed correct 1.1 and 1 ones.

                    • @fordprefect: That's exactly the same equation when calculated correctly.

Order of precedence of multiplication and division combined is left to right. That means kerfuffle's (incorrect) equation

                      $78x0.9/110x100x0.9

                      is calculated as

                      ((($78x0.9)/110)x100)x0.9
                      = ((($78x0.9)x100)/110)x0.9
                      = ($78x0.9)x(100/110)x0.9
                      = (($78x0.9)/1.1)x0.9
                      = $78x0.9/1.1x0.9
                      = $57.4363636364

not (as I presume you seem to be implying)

                      ($78x0.9)/(110x100x0.9)
                      = ($78x0.9)/(11000x0.9)
                      = $0.0070909091

Similarly, for your (also wrong) equation

                      $78 x 0.9 / 1.1 x 1 x 0.9
                      = ((($78 x 0.9) / 1.1) x 1) x 0.9
                      = (($78 x 0.9) / 1.1) x 0.9
                      = $78 x 0.9 / 1.1 x 0.9
                      = $57.4363636364

i.e the same as kerfuffle's result.

                      Interestingly, using your presumed interpretation

                      $78 x 0.9 / 1.1 x 1 x 0.9
                      = ($78 x 0.9) / (1.1 x 1 x 0.9)
                      = ($78 x 0.9) / (1.1 x 0.9)
                      = $70.9090909091

which is a different (as you claimed) value, but it's also incorrect.

What follows is the simple-equation only proof of the correct answer.

First, I'm assuming Cashrewards' Liquorland cashback is based on the ex-GST ex-discount price (as it is for First Choice Liquor, and since is is at ShopBack—I don't have an appropriate transaction to personally check Liquorland cashback at Cashreward).

                      Cashback = $78×0.10÷1.1 = $7.09

                      Discount = $78×0.10 = $7.80

So the effective cost is $78−$7.09−$7.8 = $63.11

This agrees with the correct (easy to read and understand 😉) full formula:

                      $78×(1−0.10÷1.1−0.10) = $63.11

        • +1

Also worth factoring in cheap egiftcards for Dan's if you can get them

    • You can use Dan's gift card which gives you 5% off.
But cashback will be calculated off the total price.
      So Dan will be better.

      • Hi Bob, where can you buy the Dan's gift vouchers from? Thanks

        • I've answered this above.

        • from Suncorp

    • +4

Looks like everyone so far gets a big fat F for their maths 😉 (Except maybe kerfuffle who initially stated the correct ~19% effective discount at Liquorland, but then stuffed up by stating that that figure didn't allow for ex-GST pricing, and then when showing the actual maths including ex-GST… Wait a minute. That's still an F, right? 😉)

      For your $78 case:

Store CB GST Discount Calculation Result Tot % Off
      LL 10% ex 10% Sitewide $78×(1−0.10÷1.1−0.10) $63.11 ~19.09%
      DM 15% inc - $78×(1−0.15) $66.30 15%
      DM 15% inc 5% GC $78×(1−0.15−0.05) $62.40 20%
      LL 10% ex 2000 flybuys w $50 Spend $78×(1−0.10÷1.1)−10 $60.91 ~21.91%

Hope you haven't made your purchase yet, as it turns out yesterday's Liquorland deal was cheaper than Dan Murphy's one unless you use discounted gift cards. However, it turns out that the best deal is actually today's Liquorland 10% cashback and 2000 bonus flybuys points stacked deal.

      • Thanks for your effort, I didn't order anything yet, maybe tonight.

    • 2000 FlyBuy points also at Liquorland today with $50 purchase plus the 10% cashback is pretty good for some items. I bought some Roku gin.

I didn't pick it up yet, so maybe I can cancel and re-order tomorrow.

spend $183.33 to reach the max cb amount.

    • It's actually $166.64 as Cashrewards' Dan Murphy's cashback is calculated on the GST inclusive price.

      • interesting. the email I got after purchase saying

*May not include delivery, taxes, surcharges, GST and other fees.

but the CB amount is based on the GST inclusive total.

        • That's part of the General Terms & Conditions which applies to all affiliate stores. For some stores the cashback amount is based on the ex-GST amount; others it's based on the GST inclusive amount. Thus, in general "may not include GST" applies.

Cashrewards explicitly specifies in the Special Terms on the affiliate store's page if it's ex-GST based (for example, see the First Choice Liquor and the Liquorland pages). Otherwise it's assumed to be GST inclusive based.

Why not 5% of with dan murphy GC?

      • don't have access to that :( feels bad man

Ok. Sorry for rubbing it in. I feel for you.
Maybe consider the free Suncorp account …

        • +2

          Check out my comment. above.

I'd check the wiki first to see if you do actually have access. Note that the wiki not complete as apparently NRMA have them at 5% off too.

If you don't indeed have access to 5% off Dan Murphy's gift cards, then I would recommend getting a free Suncorp bank account, as johnmelb has already pointed out.

My favourite gin, the Hendricks Midsummer Solstice (RRP $89.99) is currently on special for $65, so comes down to just over $55 with this deal - best price I've seen: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_54773/hendrick-s-mi…

  • I had a lot of trouble getting cashreward tracking. Contacted support and going no where.

    • Mine hasn’t tracked yet either…

    • What do you mean by “tracking”? I never get feedback that dans has tracked, if I understand that track means a confirmation after the purchase from CR?

    • Yes same here. Peak hour online? I’m having a different issue below when I finally get to the cart…

  • Anyone else having an issue adding more than one carton of beer to your pick up order? Keeps telling me there is a 6 case limit even though I am only ordering 2…

    • No problems here.

I added 7 cartons of Nowhereman Brewing Co. Rhapsody XPA Can 375mL
and it allowed me to do it but in the cart there was a "Quantity unavailable in Midland for Click & Collect. 4 Case(s) are available" message and upon checkout there was another message with a link to update the cart to 4 cases.

Hmm usually my Dan's track almost immediately, although my order today at 5:14pm AEDT still hasn't =(

    • Mine has not tracked yet, 2 days after the purchase. First time I’ve experienced this with Cash Rewards. Any body else have the same problem?

      • No problem for me, both transactions tracked with the 15% soon after the transactions were made.
        Maybe contact TA?

        • +1

          Maybe contact TA?

Please don't waste TA's valuable, and valued, time. (Correct me if I'm wrong TA.)

The Terms & Conditions clearly state that it can take up to 7 days to track, and that you should only send in a claim strictly from 7 to 45 days after the transaction if it has failed to track.

After 7 days, please use the "Send a Claim" button in your Click History rather than contacting TA directly.

          • @robinCTS: I must contact them almost for every transaction with Dan's, gets real tiring.

            • @Sunshines bright: 🤔 There must be something you're doing/using that's different to all the other people that don't have tracking issues.

Would you mind listing what you're using in terms of device, app/browser, addons/extensions, ad/content blockers, VPN/proxy server, modem (and if it has a VPN/proxy server set up), ISP/carrier?

              • @robinCTS: what I am using does not really matter. As every other thing I use cash rewards for tracks right away. Just yesterday I did the 15% for BWS and when I went to Cash Rewards it was already there as pending but the Dans from days before still was not tracked. Ebay no issues, along with any other company I use with cash rewards. And we have 2 different computers we purchase Dan's from and neither track one Mac one Windows one sometimes uses VPN (but not all the time) the other never uses it.

We only purchase things that are on sale via members offers or internet sales maybe that is why they do not automatically track what we buy. As everytime I make a claim, CR sees the $ off amount and asks if I used a coupon or some other vehicle to get the discount. It is just sale prices I have to tell them each time.

                • @Sunshines bright: Thanks for your detailed reply.

I've only done a couple of Dan Murphy's orders and none were Member Offers or internet sales, though the last one was for a discounted clearance item. All tracked just fine.

Surely it's not the case that most Dan Murphy's orders for Member Offers items don't track for everyone? Maybe it's got something to do with your account?

Finally, just because every other store you use Cashrewards for tracks right away, doesn't mean it's not something that you're doing that causing issues with Dan Murphy's. Tracking involves both Cashrewards' and the store's systems and you may be doing something that's causing issues with Dan Murphy's tracking process but not with other stores' ones.

                  • @robinCTS: could be my cr account is flawed, who really knows. I have complained to cr about dm and they brush me off each time. I just know, to get my rewards I have to manually request them. I do not do transactions different with ebay then dm or with any other store. I click the activate cr, I click the items I want added and I pay… always the same. I do not web surf after activating or clic any other website besides the cr activate button and the store I am purchasing from

  • Mine tracked within a minute.

    • Same here using the CR app

  • +1

I have to get cash rewards to step in almost every time I purchase at Dan’s, not sure why drives me crazy to have to do it about every month or so, a lot if effort to get under 5.00 credit. But I only buy from Dan’s so here I went and did it again.

Hope they honour the 15% automatically as I may not remember to claim it manually in 45 days!
