    for a second I thought they were $10 tickets….

  • +3

Won’t be watching it this year.

  • +37

I appreciate I am probably in the minority with this view, but after the disregard and disrespect towards Australia by many of the international players, as it pertains to keeping the Australian public safe, I would not be supporting this event.

    Decent deal none the less.

With 25000 plus citizens are still not able to return to shores, giving priority to non citizens players is baffling..

      • Victoria really needs the money I guess.

        • Reports suggest borrowing in the order of $100 billion by Victoria:

Net debt will be $86.7 billion this year, rising to $154.8 billion by 2023-24.

So, yes, Victoria really needs money.

But surely we need to let Australians, and Victorians, home, as a priority?

I love how inconsistent the entire approach is. They agreed to come here under the terms proposed and then when they get here expect to be granted any request?

It honestly makes me feel embarrassed for the tennis players in quarantine that aren't complaining.

      • +4

Not to mention our aggressive border policy, that has allowed us to largely remain unaffected by Covid (compared to other countries), is what allows them to come and play in an event like the Australian Open. They now have a problem with these policies because it affects them?

It's bizarre that this seems to go over their heads…

      • +3

squeaky wheels gets the grease maybe?

these snowflakes are complaining about the free accommodation and flight paid for.

it's insultingly tone deaf, considering many people lost their lives and jobs over covid, these people are highly paid and still have that one job they have yet to do.

        • +3

THEY DON'T DO THEIR OWN HAIR OKAY?!

      • +3

If anyone needed proof that so many high level athletes are spoiled brats it was seeing them tweet and demand they get private quarantine accommodation with tennis courts…

After they were told months in advance that they would likely be required to quarantine on arrival by the Aus Open organisers.

    • You are not alone.

  • +14

not keen to watch a bunch of whingers.

at least toddlers have their cute moments when they have a whinge.

these are fully grown adults with the brains of a petulant child.

  • +3

I would be extremely surprised if you can buy a can of VB at the tennis.
That, like most of the atmosphere, has been removed from big sporting events.

    • +3

i reckon my neighbours' barbie events on weekends have more atmosphere.

      • +1

Oh please, an online church sermon has more atmosphere.
Australian Open is turning into a soapie.

    • +2

You definitely can't get VB, but I remember being fairly happy that the beer was at least full strength.

      • Apparently it is Peroni this year; don't know which variety will be on offer.

        • TIL Peroni has varieties! i always thought it was some random batch i kept getting at different pubs, i wasn't paying enough attention.

  • +4

Dose it come with a Tennis court and a pool?

    • Don't forget food has to be made by a 5 star Michelin chef or they'll resort to getting McDonald's instead (LOL!)

  • +3

while yelling "Oi, Oi, Oi!" on Australian day at the Tennis

    Did you mean Australia Day?
If so, the Australian Open tennis is not on that day.

  • I might consider to come if the ticket is $10 this year….

  • +1

For those attending, make sure you are aware of the additional restrictions this year:

"…each of the three arenas (Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and John Cain Arena) will be in a separate zone. Each zone will be accessible by patrons with a corresponding ticket. Patrons will be required to remain within their designated zone for the duration of their session…"

  • +6

who would pay $ for spoiled brats.

  • +1

I reckon if they can get a couple decent players in the Mens Final the around $500 a ticket with the covid restrictions will be the bargain of the year :)

No way its going to best of 3 sets that some players are demanding .

    • Well its pretty much always a lock for it being Djokovic.

  • +2

Do you want Covid with that .. :-( .. ??!!

    • You don't think they have spent 10's of millions covering that aspect ?

      • +1

Surely, there is no guarantee that if attending an event like this with a largish number of other patrons (and staff), that no-one will have or transmit COVID?

  • +7

-$10 discount, $25 handling fee, $15 processing fee, $35 because we can fee, $50 do you want the ticket or not fee

    • +1

Lol that is the problem of ticketing companies getting a monopoly on an event .
They can do as they please .
BTW Tickermaster customer service is an answering machine . Nothing more .

    • +2

      Don't forget a $11 discount fee

  • +1

No thanks. I have no interest in watching bunch of spoilt overgrown kids slapping balls at each other while making annoying grunting noises.
Apart form Roger Federer, I have zero respect for these overpaid tennis players.

  • +3

'yelling "Oi, Oi, Oi!"', surely you mean coughing "Oi, Oi, Oi!" ?

  • +1

the ticket should contain : "free corona included"

  • +1

I'd rather put the $10 towards someone coming to wash my hair

  • Ex Tennis Aus staff here. Could swear that TA took the quarantining process seriously. It’s really unfortunate that some of them are tested positive and the other people onboard the same plane have to quarantine as well. Weeks of training and preparation had gone to waste because of the quarantine. At least look at from their perspectives.

People can request and make demand, and there is nothing wrong with it.

Yes, it’s all about money and don’t forget the revenue that the State will get from tax from broadcasting the event in other countries.

    • +1

It is "…unfortunate that some of them are tested positive…". No reasonable person would want another person to have COVID.
It is more than "unfortunate", however, that they have brought COVID into Melbourne, and put a lot of other people at risk (i.e. medical staff, quarantine staff, tennis staff, etc.). All for the sake of perhaps gaining an increased income.

Weeks of training and preparation have not gone to waste. It, at the very least, should have provided them with a good level of base fitness and conditioning that will see them ok at the end of quarantine. They were apparently well informed of the possibility for quarantine; shouldn't all of their support staff factored that into their preparation.

    • disagree.
the players who whinge gives the entire sports a bad name. They are not role models for kids and no one should be watching them or entertaining to their demands.

Is money > reputation? Time will tell. TA chose to take the poison chalice, they made their bed.

      • -3

So a tiny handfull of the 1000+ players and crew who have flown here have had a whinge (and then most/all humbly apologised once it was explained to them just how lucky they are)…. therefore the entire sport of tennis is a writeoff?

Talk about blowing things out of proportion.

That's the equivalent of reading 1 dumb comment by a troll like JV and then declaring the entirety of ozbargin in agreement with the dumb thing he said… and declaring the whote site a writeoff

        • Your example is where I write off the entire country or party where the whingers came from.

          I didn’t do that.

I initially removed a longer statement, let’s say you invited Karen and her family and some other families to your party/wedding (important occasion) to your place. You paid for everything, quarantine and flights and the effort of admin to ensure covid compliance to LAWs.

Karen upon arrival start to give crap about your quality of food and size of bed/room and minor inconveniences.

You told them before you booked the ticket beforehand and paid for everything.

I would kick them out of the house and send them the bill.

Don’t put words in my mouth if you don’t understand what I wrote. I said these whingers are bad representation and setting a bad example for others, especially impressionable kids. The others who kept quiet and didn’t tell those whingers to shut up are just encouraging these sort of entitled behaviour.

and then most/all humbly apologised once it was explained to them just how lucky they are)

This quarantine is not new, we are nearly a year to the bloody pandemic, why are you making up excuses for people claiming “they don’t know any better”

Did you not think maybe they apologise humbly just because they got caught and the backlash?

How about maybe being humble and not a pos in the first place?
