Awesome printer for just having a hard copy of a doc. No more dried up injet cartridges for me. Even the delivery cartridge prints 700 pages

    • +2

Yep, I totally agree. I rarely print anything and was using inkjet ink on the stupid cleaning it does when turning on than actually printing.
TBH I use the Brother more for scanning than printing.

      • +2

This is also the main reason why I'd buy a laser printer as I don't print often and always end up with dried up ink. Problem I have now is they are always bigger and I don't have much space from all the ozbargains I bought!

    • +1

You can refill that cartridge, too.

  • +11

once you go laser, you never go inkjet

    • -5

      then you go continuous-ink…

  • I’ve seen colour lasers for not a whole lot more than this…

    • +3

but you wont find a colour laser thats less to run

      • How so? My colour laser has a separate black toner which costs the same as a mono laser toner.

        • nice, which model ?

          • -4

@Henrideacon: It's an old Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM205fw. Bought it second hand for $5 with half full toners.

      • The toner is not expensive for Brother laser printers. I got a Brother MFC-9140CDN a few years ago for a bit over $300. A full set of toner (Cyan 2200 pages, Magenta 2200 pages, Yellow 2200 pages and Black 2500 pages) only cost me $36 from eBay and it prints exactly the same as the genuine Brother ones.

    • Multifunction with duplex?

  • +6

I've owned this printer and it's fantastic if you're sure you only need B&W.

  • +2

Great printer and scanner combo. Perfect for a small home office set up! 👍

  • +2

I got this printer and it has been going strong for the last 2 years

  • +1

Another thumbs up 👍 for this printer. It is really the best printer I have ever owned noting it is only B&W. Cheap to run as no expensive colour ink and toner, very easy to use and multi functional. The best is the wifi printing. The brother app is the best especially printing from your phone. Its very easy to send to printer or scanning from the app and works first time every time. I had a couple of fuji xerox before and they were so horrible to use, just constant hassles. Ended up binning them in the end.

    • No way I'd call the brother app is nice, may be fine for bw documents print but colour photo it takes ages and you have to keep an eye on the screen to make sure it doesn't get lock out until it finishes sending the file over the wifi

      • +1

I use the Brother app and it's pretty fast for me - both printing and also scanning. Very convenient and quick.

      • I can't comment on your colour printing as this model is B&W and my comments relate to B&W printing. Never had any delays with the App when printing B&W and also scanning.

Great printer, too bad I bought it 2 weeks ago from Bezos for $299 :(

  • Great home office work horse, I've provided some high level comments for this in the past for those interested.

  • only B&W….

  • In stock at Umart - same price. $8 shipping or free pickup. Couldn't find any stock nearby at officeworks

  • Bought this last year and so happy with all the fancy features.

    • Scan and upload to Dropbox in few clicks
    • Wireless printing using your smartphone
    • Remote printing using Google Print
    • Running cost is low

There were shortage of supply due to start of WFH in April/May 2020.

Great little unit! Own one for 2 years now

  • +1

Can also vouch for this model. Have had this model for the past few years. Never caused any problems even after going through few generic toners.

Bought one a year ago, so happy with it! Duplex printing, auto feed for scanner, scan to email… so many features!

    Mine is a L2740DW

Heads up with high yield toners, the printer may say low on toner and to replace. BUT if your printing quality has not suffered at all:

Reset the toner count via the following:

    https://www.easyink.co.nz/support/brother-mfc-l2720dw-l2740d…

For some reason every now and again when a new toner is installed in the Brother MFCL2720DW or MFCL2740DW the reset switch isn’t triggered and the toner counter doesn’t get reset. The following is a manual reset for you printer that you can use to reset the counter.

    • Open the front cover of your Brother MFC laser printer where you can access its toner cartridge.
    • Press and hold the Hash (#) button for about 5 seconds to see the toner menu on the screen.
    • Select the toner you need to reset ( For the TN2345 use TNR-HC or for the TN2315 use TNR-STD-A.).
    • Select YES to reset.
    • Close the front cover.
    • DONE.

edit: my issues with the toner count in a L2740DW may not be relevant but I'll just put it out there in case —- reading this reddit link it suggests that the toner cart in 2750's ought to come with a chip vs 2740's which are without chip

    edit2: L2750 specific instructions:

  • Generic toners available?

    • Yep. I'm using mine with a generic toner.

  • I just ordered one yesterday from Officeworks online and I'm seeing this deal just now, can I still price match it?

  • Bought one from umart $265

  • I have the previous model, the MFC-L2740DW. To be honest, I don't rate it:

    • Scanning through the ADF results in crooked output and vertical streaks, even after cleaning the glass and rollers following instructions in the manual
    • Text printing is fine, but anything graphical or even greyscale is a disaster. I don't expect photo quality printing from a B&W laser printer, but this isn't even close to okay.
    • Toner runs out a lot faster than expected. The TN-2350 is supposed to yield 2600 pages but mine ran out after just 1500 pages of text.
    • Build quality is very average. The lid closes with a very thin-sounding 'clack'.

I don't know if the 2750 improves on any of the above.

  • Has anyone managed to setup this printer for google cloud print?

  • I paid full price for this printer a few months ago and am so happy with it I am not even remotely upset that it is now discounted. No more injet landfill for me.

    • Is this model discontinued?

  • I have had this printer for some time now and think it's one of the best I've owned (in that price range)

My favourite feature is scan to cloud. I scan everything straight to OneDrive and have setup 1 press shortcut keys depending on the document type (ie colour scan or double-sided scan)

    AirPrint works a treat also.

  • Overall good multifunction and cheap generic toner cartridges available.

Luckily got mine just before Covid as supply was short a few month later.

Only issue I have with mine and it seems a common problem is that the scanner doesn't scan straight when using the auto doc feeder.

    Always wonky for some reason.

  • I've heard some say the toner runs out quickly on this but that can be fixed with changing resolution and still getting good results. Anyone here got any experiences with that?

    • That isn't true, darkness is going to effect the amount of toner/ink you use.

Thanks for this post, bought one with OW price beat. Cheers

  • Any good colour mfc on offer?

  • Ive had this printer for 2 years now - bought it for $227 after OW price beat.
Its been pretty good except for a few things

    1. When I replaced with a high yield genuine toner - the counter stuffed up and it was showing empty from the beginning. Tried numerous hacks to reset the toner and move the counter etc…nothing worked
    2. The high yield has not lasted very long. I dont print much but prints are coming out faded. I need to keep keep cleaning the head to get good prints out - this usually means its nearly empty.
    3. The top paper feeder for scanning is not as good as my old brother printers - many times scans do not come out straight.

    Otherwise a great machine….

What's the next closest equivilat with colour?

    • Brother Wireless Colour Laser MFC Printer MFC-L3750CDW, but it's currently priced at $400 at Officeworks.
Brother Wireless Colour Laser MFC Printer DCP-L3510CDW for $349 but doesn't have the same features.

      • Thanks for the info, B&W may be sufficient, can't even think of the last time I needed to print in colour.

  • No longer available online :(
Can you still get a price beat if it's out of stock online?

  • ADF scanner right ? Not just flat bed !?
