  • This or Karcher K2?

    • +1

This has more accessories as compared to base model and has metal hose plug

I have found the Gerni to be better than Karcher.

My Karcher didn’t last long (pump), parents not much longer (pump failed). These were maybe 2-3 years old, with little use.
Gerni, I’ve had 5 years now, no problems at all.

  • Would this be sufficient for preping an exterior paint job?

    • +1

Very good question. I bought the superseded version of this model a week ago from bunnings on clearance for $50……. same pressure rating. It is ok for car washing and general cleaning but it is nothing special. To prepare for painting you are still going to require some mechanical agitation to get a good result. Be that with a rotary brush or a broom.
If you are hoping to blast flakey paint I'd go a step or two up on pressure or maybe hire a commercial machine.

    • Good for general cleaning of surface for prepping for painting. If the paint is flaking it’ll strip most of it off. Sanding is better but you’ll be exposed to the dust which is better to avoid if you can.

      • If it's timber hose down the surface then use wet and dry. No dust issues.

  • I've read pretty shocking reviews on these…

Thay are seriously nothing special. A step up from a good squirty garden hose nozzle. Gerni was a good brand before it got bunningzed

      • -2

Yes you're correct on that one. Based on countless YouTube reviews, Ryobi seems to be one of the better brands, for a few bucks more.

        • +5

          I heard quite the opposite

        • I have Ryobi, base model and have been using it for about 3 years. Still going strong - just had to replace the O-ring once.

          • @onepiece: How long did it go before you replaced to O ring, and how often do you use it.

            • @mrtee: replaced the O-ring around June last year? To be fair, not very often. Maybe about twice a month? its just the drive way, deck, and the car :)

              • @onepiece: Yeah, it's pretty much how I'd be using it. How much was the O ring?

        • Based on the look of it, the Ryobi is just a rebranded Gerni anyway.

          Same with Stihl.

I've got a 15 year old Karcher that's still going strong, but my 5 year old top-of-the-line Gerni has recently failed.

It seems most of the current domestic-use pressure washers are made pretty similarly, so I wouldn't really rely on brand to carry them. If it has the accessories you want and (reported) pressure you're after for a good price, they're probably all about the same.

Interestingly Bunnings guy said ryobi is the least reliable compared to Karcher or Gerni

  • I have been using this for last 6 months or so for washing my car and using it with a bowdens snow cannon. Flow rate 7.7ltrs/ min is pretty good and cheap as for my purpose

  • +1

There is no way this unit or similar priced units will run at 1810 psi and flow 7.7 litres per minute. These are usually the "peak" values and not the "working" values. (note: peak values are useless for comparison, you need to compare working values as these are the important ones) You have to spend nearly $1,000 to buy an electric pressure washer that will equal the performance of a $300 Ebay petrol washer. But it depends on what you need the pressure washer for, and your expectations. Just don't expect these cheapies to do the job of a decent washer (like the Michelin MPX RBP 160 which is $999).

  • Do these work off a bucket or do I need to connect the hose to a tap

    • Tap

  • Damn, I just bought one a few weeks ago.

    • same here, 03-01-2021. is there any 30 days price match policy

      • +1

Yea it's called buying another one and returning it on your old receipt

        • Do it need to be in original packaging? I chuck the box

          • -1

@georgev: The idea is, buy and return the exact same unit in the box, its not a Serial# they scan, just the generic barcode on the box. Just remember, use the old (more expensive) receipt when returning.

            • @ozf1: Ok..? (-). I was just explaining the method, as the gent or femme didn't seem to understand. Me so sorry!

  • My gerni is 15 years old and still going strong. It the equivalent of the 5300 model.
Excellent machines. I was using it all day at the new house and was thinking I have had a good run from it hopefully it doesn't die half through the day. After lunch it would work but It seemed to blow a cheap no name brand power point. Moved to another power point and still running strong. Make sure you read what the pump is made from. Most of the no names, some karcher and ones thst don't actually day the pumps are olastic. Also you won't really find a 7 year warranty on any other comparable units for the upper to mid range

  • Bunnings own gerni now

So expect lower quality cheap units

Nothing like the old gerni stuff

    • Gerni is still owned by nilfisk and not bunnings. Bunnings just have the sole distribution rights in Australia's. I would still test them more than day ryobi or karcher. I mean they wouldn't be still offering 7 year warranty if they didn't think it would last right. How long would you actually expect the ryobi to last?

  • RandomBob84 nilfisk don't own gerni at all ozito now own gerni they don't offer seven year warranty it's now 5.
