Bought a little AM/FM Sangean just over a year ago for the home emergency kit but ended up using the thing on a daily basis. There's a bit of a nostalgic appeal about a gadget that doesn't have any T&Cs to agree to, switches on and works instantly, doesn't require an account, doesn't transmit data back to the maufacturer, never crashes or hangs, doesn't have countless settings to configure, doesn't need firmware updates, poses no security risks, won't be obsolete in a few years, and lasts a month between battery charges.

Of course, it does have its limitations.

“very well thought out sir “. …sometimes we just need to turn one switch or push one button, simple is a nice change.

ABC Grandstand still has the best cricket commentary around.

SEN on 1170 is all day sports coverage.

And the ol’ talkback stations have car reviews, tech spots, renovations and gardening segments.

So I still get a lot out of listening to the radio.

A lot. ABC Grandstand for sport etc and a fair bit of talkback. And is so much better than having hearphones or buds stuck in the ear all day long which can be really isolating. Out of all the tools in my combo kit the radio gets the most use. No data usage, battery lasts for ever and I can even use it as an external speaker for my phone.
