  We love our Museums membership (family with 6 + 9 year old boys). A visit to each of Scienceworks and Melbourne Museum each year pretty much pays for itself once you factor in the parking discount at Melbourne but the big benefit for us is the ability to visit just one exhibit, stay an hour or two then move on. It's much easier with younger kids to visit the whole museum across 3-4 visits than it is in one big day. (Same story with a Zoo membership)

  2020 obviously didn't give us as big a benefit as prior years but they did extend our membership by the 3-4 months that everything was closed down.

  And all that aside - our family feels good contributing $80 a year to science and history education.

    I just got the zoo membership and can really relate to this. Having the abbility to just jump in to the zoo and see a few specific animals with my kids, and then leave, to go back later another day is a game changer. Before we had to go in there and rush through the whole thing to make sure that every cent on the ticket was well spent, now you feel more relaxed and enjoy it even more. I'll probably get this museum membership in a few weeks for the same reasons.

    A great place to spend a hot Melbourne day - the big stone building with high ceiling doesn't get hot, plus the underground part of the outdoor forest is always cold.

    We like to visit early, leave and go to Lygon St for a feed, then come back in the afternoon for another wander. Considering most events are $30-50 per person entry nowadays, this is a steal.

    maybe you can GIFT yourself a membership, and activate it once your current one expires? I dunno, maybe give them a call and see what they say over the phone.

  Just a bit of a question - is the Main museum still having the neighbours set and stuff rather than suits of armour and shunken heads etc?

  Scienceworks is awesome, but more tailored at the kids imo.

  This might be helpful from their FAQ's:

  How long does the recipient have to activate the membership?
  Once a gift membership is purchased the recipient has one year from the purchase date to activate the membership. Once activated, the membership is valid for one year.

  If I buy a gift membership today, does this day become the first day of the membership?
  A gift membership is activated once the recipient activates the membership. The gift membership is not activated from the date that the gift is purchased.
