Reminder that the only way to learn any language is comprehensible input over time.

Speaking is not going to help. Having someone else 'tutor' you isn't going to help.

Lots of different methods can assist but yes, a core structure similar what a Japanese student would follow is a good basis.
You need to learn Hiragana then Katakana then get the hell away from Romanji.

Then comes the horrible bit, Kanji.

With a language you can go in light for travel purposes and to be nice to strangers. (Travel, will have to look up the meaning of that word).
Option 2, the hard option but dam it can be rewarding.

Good luck which ever path you take.

I already know how to read everything I want to read, but thanks anyway.

And kanji isn't horrible. Kana only is horrible.

I seem to hear the words kimochi and yamate from a lot of the videos i watch.

Hope this deal will be able to help me understand what they're saying…

    •

kimochi and yamate………….(1)"feelings" and (2)"place near mountains" eg foothills

(1)http://translate.google.com.au/ (this and DeepL are indispensable IMHO)

      (2) and Japanese dictionary app (thanks Ozbargain….years ago)

Of course context may alter these.

[added on edit - Woops, thanks OP]

Some old folklore says "Practical is more important than theoretical"

Whatever that the video that you were watching, I suggest that you start practising…

The theoretical in this deal will bring you nowhere…

Like math… practice more understand more… by looking theoretically brings you nowhere…

Can't complain about a free book but is there an index of topics at the front of the book? I want to be able to quickly jump to relevant topics at a particular situation.
