TPG Vs Spintel Vs Superloop nbn

Currently have some ISP’s shortlisted and I’m looking for some feedback regarding them.

Ideally looking for one with the strongest connection with the fewest dropouts in your experiences.

TPG Unlimited 12/1 - $59.95 p/month

Spintel Unlimited 25/5 - $54.95 p/month

Super Loop Unlimited 25/5 - $54.95 p/month

TPG will supply their own router with connection. As for the other two, you can bring your own in which I have an Origin nbn modem so I’m not sure if these are transferable. Would be good to avoid paying for a new router.

Let me know on your thoughts.

  • Did Origin supply you with a NetComm NF18Mesh or Huawei HG659?

    • I’d have to double check - I believe it’s the latter from memory. Any idea if either are applicable?

      • I don't know if Origin lock down the firmware. If Origin have not locked them down you can use them with different ISPs.

Be wary you're also comparing 6 month intro prices for some.

    • Yep thanks for the heads up - noted this. I don’t mind paying the extra after the 6 months if the service is decent.

  • You need to consider , connection fee. I think TPG does.

    • Is that the same as an activation fee? As they offer $0 if you enter a 6 month contract

      • Yeah same thing.

    Superloop easily from that list.
It's a better and cheaper service than TPGs
And the service level is significantly better than you'll get from Spintel.

  • I've been on Superloop, moved to Exetel and currently Spintel.

Speed wise - for me using the Ookla speed test, they were all pretty much the same during peak times. The only thing with Spintel is that they don't have a Brisbane POP so the traffic is routed through Sydney. This mainly impacts the ping (~24ms-35ms) whereas Superloop and Exetel would hover from 10ms-15ms. It doesn't bother me though as I don't online game but that being said, a ping around ~30ms is still pretty great for online gaming, unless I'm mistaken.

If you go for Spintel, use this link to get a discount on the normal prices for 6 months. $49p/m for the 25/5 plan.

  • If you want the cheapest, Tangerine 25 plan is $44.9 for 1st 6 months

    • But how does it go in terms of dropping out?

Been with Superloop and experienced considerable dropouts. No issues since moving to Aussie Broadband.

  • On TPG NBN50 Unlimited @ $70 per month which is alright. Speed is good and don't remember how long ago the last drop out was, but when it was dropping out it was pretty frequent (Sydney).

  • We had been with TPG adsl and went to superloop a year ago. You hear so many bad stories about the nbn/RSPs so I was reluctant to commit to a period and I had started resenting TPGs fees. Super loop made it painless to join, have been happy with their overprovisioning and will stay with them, even tho we’re out of the 6mth honeymoon period

Been with TPG for over a decade, never had any real complaints (rare, I know). What ever issues were related to the Telstra backbone, usually fixed via a Telstra tech. I'm also ok dealing with the Pina customer support (though I agree it's not everyone's cup of tea), usually ask them about the weather in Manila, get a bit human, and then they really go out of their way to solve any issue.

Speeds have always been enough for streaming and WFH (all I do). I've always used their supplied router, never failed me. They stick to TP-Link, never seen another brand from them in the past decade.

Also get SMS alerts on planned maintenance, weather related outages, etc

  • I have TPG NBN100
I get 100mbps all day everyday

    No dropouts whatsoever

  • If you are looking at few dropouts then consider Future Broadband. Depending how much data you use they start at 12/1 for $50, 25/5 for $60 and 50/20 for $70 … All with data banking which means if you don't use it all it gets carried over to the next month. You also get a free static IP address and they have a referral program that offers a discount and extra data in the bank as well.
I've have been with Future (with an excursion to Superloop in the middle) for several years now and as for drop outs, they have been pretty much non existent. Connection reported in the modem can show several weeks at a time. Always good speeds 24/7. They claim to use the AAPT IP-Line network which is top notch.

Superloop, as I mentioned, have been with and can vouch for them as being stable and reliable so I would have no issues recommending them either. Good luck with it all.
