  • How do these guys compare to ABB? Is the NBN still doing the free upgrade to 250 in Feb?

    • ..and to Superloop

      • I moved from superloop last week. I'm from Melbourne tired of lag spikes

        • +2

I moved from Tangerine to Superloop a few months ago because i wasn't happy with the speeds and ping spikes.
I guess YMMV depending on your location.

          • @Neggy-Z: I've moved from Superloop to Tangerine and want to move on again to someone new, as both have had atrocious issues - can't stream a thing even though I'm on a high-ish plan.

            Any suggestions?

            • @Lady Grey Tea: Lots of issues with streaming, esp with 1080p. It simply stalls. However, speedtest shows download speed around 41Mbps to 43Mbps. FTTC.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yes, I got awful buffering on Superloop and Tangerine, even though my speedtest was good. HFC here though…

            • +2

@Lady Grey Tea: Launtel, I put my parents and now I've been with them for a while. shame I can't share my referral code for another $50 :)

Service is top notch via chat, never wait long. Had a tech out to my parents next day after issue, which was not NBN related in the end.

Just wish they got away from Vocus in my POI eventually

            • @Lady Grey Tea: Currently with Dodo - FTTC 50 with no issues. 2 people at home who are heavy gamers. Not sure how the customer service is though because I've been with them for 5 years now way back when I had ADSL and never really had the need to call about issues.

            • @Lady Grey Tea: We moved from Superloop to ABB and have had no issues.

        • Hi Mate, had superloop for more than a year used to be amazing but since 2 months tons of lag spikes and random disconnections so tired of it. I spoke to them many times they recognize the problem but they never fixed it

where did u move to ? I'm thinking tangerine or ABB

      • I moved to superloop this week. First time I've experienced packetloss on FTTP. Going back to ABB after the month's over.

        • Yep, I would recommend avoiding Superloop like the plague

    • +2

I'd rate Tangerine 2/10. Had them last year (Aug/Sept 2020 for a month) and was atrocious… FTTP that too.

    • I'm with them. The price is right during the first 6 months, but I've found the customer service to be lacking. I don't normally mind that too much, because the connection itself works, but I haven't been able to log into my account from their website for a couple of months and my referral code doesn't work. I'll be leaving when the 6 months ends.

      • +1

Not the code doesn't work, I think the system is set up that it won't add the referral bonus unless you contact the CS with your friend's account number. I am in the same boat for 5 referral

    • Ooh, could you please expand on the free upgrade to 250? This is the first I'm hearing of it and I wasn't able to find much on Google other than upgrades to fibre - unless that's what you mentioned?

      • -1

I am interested to know as well. 100Mbps just doesn't cut it these days

      • New NBN rebates for ISPs are starting from 1st Feb 21 - 31st Jul 21. ISPs can do 6 month discounts on 50/20, 100/20, 100/40, 250/25 and 1000/50. This is separate from NBN Co FTTP upgrade path. NBN Co launches new Focus on Fast campaign

    • My friend in Sydney is with them. Ping <10ms to BFV servers. Never complains.

    • What is the free upgrade to 250, btw?

    • I have been with these guys for 6 months never had any issues. I am in Melbourne and on the 50mb plan.

  • I was with them early last year for one month and service was really not good (Was getting 23Mbps on a 100 connection with FTTP). Not sure if anything has changed since then.

    • +1

Same thing happened to me. See my comment below.

  • +2

Customer service is not proactive and their systems can be problematic (I stopped receiving emailed invoices and it was never fixed, and was billed a rejected-payment fee even though I'd used correct details when I added my credit card - rectified promptly when I queried it).

    Service itself was ok

  • +2

Been with them for the last 11 months on a month-to-month 50/20 plan in Moranbah (Central Queensland). Service itself was good, only had about three drop-outs throughout the whole year and speed was stable.

However, I do agree with a majority of the comments on this thread that the customer service is extremely poor. I'm ending my contract as I'm moving to the big smoke and found it extremely hard to end my connection; they weren't clear on the disconnection date, the last bill date or whether anything else needed to happen.

Poor communication, and this may just be a hunch for me but I am pretty sure they off-shore their customer service call centres to save money; this usually ends up being a detriment to the company itself as the call centre staff themselves have no real idea what's going on when you need something from them.

  • +1

Hmmm im with them for almost a year now. Speed is good. only experienced one outage and this happened to everyone.
Customer service is great for me..

  • I've been with them for about 7 months on 25/5 plan using HFC (hybrid fibre coaxial). I have not had any issues with drop outs or speeds. Have only contact customer service once initially to configure modem/router as I had BYO, technician was knowledgeable and got me connected pretty quick.
I have had 6 referrals but only 2 of them was recognised. The other 4 I had to provide Account Name and number which was a pain to get from the referrals. Referral system very hit and miss I guess….

    Other than that, generally happy.

  • Been with them for 10 months on fttn using Tp link 1600v and mesh system. No issues to report - can't comment on their customer service tbh as never needed to use them.

Im getting 45-46 on a 50/20 plan and never had any issues with buffering - max fttn speed reported by modem is 83 so don't believe any of the other providers will be much better for an extra $10 or so per month for unlimited

  • -1

I've been on NBN50 with Epic Broadband for 3 months and no issues. $60 per month, no promos needed.

  • -2

100/20 - you can get 100/40 for similar or better prices

    • Where?

      • Mate NBN does it for $79 if you can afford the extra $4 a month

    • woah, seariously, a neg?

  • Where are your CVC charts? Given comments above I need this before moving over.

    • Tangerine don't post any CVC charts and they use Vocus.

  • +3

    I'm with them.

Have been with Exetel, abb and internode.

Tangerine was the best in terms of nerd satisfaction.

And ABB have been by far the worst.

I was able to phone up, get my line stats, ask for profile config and static routes etc, all with the same dude.

He was rude, blunt, and foreign; but he was efficient, which is what I want.

The installation technician gave me his mobile number in case of any outages, so I can just call the local guy.

Peak speeds are above 45 on an 50 plan.
Ping in game is a solid 25ms on all Aussie servers I've used.

All in all, been very pleased.

I'm a network engineer; and the generalisation that I've concluded is that QLD seems to have great experiences with VOCUS networks, SA also. However Sydney and Melbourne seem to have speed issues; perhaps the wholesaler under provisioned for the size of the city

But, @Tangerine01, surely it's time to offer your loyal customers something? Pricing structure on NBN is pretty standardised, and if companies like letsbemates and dodo can offer better prices, along with paying for bus and TV advertising, surely you can sweeten your deal by now, considering you don't 'waste money' on adverts?
Even if it's just as simple as unlocking the overhead us HFC guys have, so we can get a few megabit extra speed?
Or a discount to move up a plan?
    Keep us loyal, fella :)

    • Agreed, good in QLD and things like free static are nice.
But unlocking overheads in the least would be good.
I'd like a $5 loyalty discount, otherwise there is little to keep customers past their 6month.
I've been with them a while but am considering to port to another deal as there is little reason to stay versus another provider.

    • +2

Tangerine was the worse for me unfortunately :( Also in QLD

      • Have any logs? Or even just brain numbers?
Always curious what people find 'worse'; often it's use case dependant (like, if you use a lot of US services, etc)

        • +2

          See my comment below.
Doing speed tests and comparisons with other companies i've tried. Same location, same hardware, same servers.
I don't keep logs as there is no need.

I had purposely had 2 services running at the same time just to compare.
Maybe Tangerine was too premature in my area. QLD 4110.

And for Tangerine to say that my speeds were normal is a clear indication that it is expected in my area and that other users would be experiencing the same.

  • Do you guys get any loyalty bonus on your Tangerine NBN plan if you continue to use their service after 6 months?
I remember someone mention in Ozbargain long time ago…

    • Not that I've seen (I've been with them for about 9 months, thinking to switch back to TPG…)

      • I might switch as well if there is no further discount…

  • I was with them for last 6 months. Stability and speed was pretty reasonable however the customer service not so much. I had to talk to them at least 3 times in the past 6 months, and had to wait ~20-30 mins.

    • Same experience for me. Not good

    • Curious, not smartarse;

Was there a reason you didn't use the online chat via your phone, to request a callback or lodge the fault online?

      • In my case it was bit of a weird situation. Apparently something was wrong in the MDF and they had to arrange someone from NBN to come in and take a look. But a day before the appointment NBN cancelled the job saying that my building is marked as an active COVID spot. This was obviously wrong and I just wanted to talk to someone to sort it out right away.

    • every time I ring them, I had to demand to speak to someone onshore to get things done… offshore support is ridiculous!

  • if u want vocus, gate Mate for $79pm 100/20 permanent price, cant really complain abt em (I know ppl complaining abt wireline etc but havnt seen anyone complaining lately), so this wont be really a deal?

  • No discount is good enough to put up with poor (and rude) customer service. Be prepared to get TIO involved

  • I think this price is the se for at least a year, I remember I paid $74.9since I join April last year

  • Sorry to say but my experience with their customer / sales service was abysmal, I was looking at signing up when NBN initially became available and i was tossing up between them and ABB, I sent them both queries on signing up and hardware / plans. ABB got back to me straight away, Tangerine got back to me weeks after I had given up waiting for a respond and had already signed up and been connected to NBN via ABB, it was hilarious. Thats how long they took to get back to me and i was actually initially planning on signing up with them once i got answers to my questions.

  • I can't seem to get website working to show me 250 option. What upstream is it btw? I'm only really interested in fatter upstream..

    • For Tangerines XXXL speed boost 250/25 to come up you have to put in your address and be connected to the NBN by FTTP or HFC. How much upstream do you want? FTTP or HFC?

      • +1

        HTC
Running at 40mbps with ABB atm. No issues just want to save a few bucks
Tangerines said it couldn’t find my address despite it popping up. ISP with buggy website doesn’t fill me with faith though…

        • The max HFC upstream is 50Mbps.

  • Can this be combined with $25 referral credit?

    • Yes.

      • Where do you enter the referral code? I can't find it at checkout

  • When I tried to move from Internode to Tangerine they provisioned the incorrect line causing my NBN to be down for 2weeks. Their customer service is very poor and located in the Philippines. They kept on trying to blame NBN for the wrong provisioning.

Ended up switching to TPG as I could not wait anymore and they sort it out no issues straight away.

  • do they still offer the first month free to try them out and can you use a referral code with the first month free sign up?

    • +1

      14 days free trial.

  • Guys I just signed up few days ago with Belong for my parents. I might join them if there is a cooling off period and I can cancel Belong? What would you say? Apartment so connection should be straight forward.

  • These providers are all offering discounts for the first 6 months. I'd rather a reasonable discount for a couple of years so I don't have to worry.

Which ones are in Melb? Does it affect your ping if you use one based in another state?

    • +1

NBN rebates for ISPs are for 6 months and that is why they come up all the time.

ISPs based in Melbourne are Aussie Broadband and Swoop. Nah the ISPs have POPs all over Australia.

      • +1

        thanks mate

    Moved from superloop to tangerine.
Superloop was flawless, tangerine does have rare hiccups once a fortnight or so. But with my usage pattern it doesn’t bother me, might be an issue for serious users.
The CC is overseas and highly incompetent, if that’s something which matters to you. Required their very basic help for BYO modem, but ended up doing it all by myself.
FYI - these prices are $5 lower than earlier running promotional price.

    • Our experience with Superloop was very different. Dropouts and long wait times to get through to customer service.

      • Superloop used to be amazing, non stop drop outs for me since 2 months , they never fixed it

  • Just some feedback from my experience with Tangerine.

I have FTTP and Tangerine was bad for my area. Heathwood 4110.
I have been with Myrepublic, Belong, and Exetel and all were good. Once I tried Tangerine speeds dropped dramatically during peak times. 50/20 plan would run at half the speed. Downloads dropped dramatically to 22Mbps and would fluctuate between 20-30Mbps. Offpeak was Fine.
Had no issues during peak times on the other companies.
I even connected a laptop directly to the NTD box to skip my router entirely. This was to prove that the speed drop was not caused my router.

Before cancelling my Tangering service, I activated a service withExetel at the same time. One service on UNI-D port1 and other other on UNI-D port2 to compare and it was definately a limitation from the Tangerine.

Speaking to their support they said that the speeds I was achieving was 'normal' from them and that they could not do anything about it.
I guess they just don't put enough money in for port allocation in my area….
Would avoid if you were in my area.

  • Just be aware their NBN100 is 100/20.

When I signed up I was getting 100/40 but without any notice, I got downgraded to 100/20.

I then switched to TPG FTTB with a much cheaper price for 100/40.

I think they are one of the cheapest you can get for NBN100/20.

When I was with them for NBN HFC, I didn't have much issue except the NBN network itself (e.g. constant maintenance, etc).

During the peak hours, I was getting around 50 ~ 60mbps download speed possibly due to congestion.

If you absolutely want to maintain the high speed, I would suggest other providers and pay for a higher price.

  • Have been using Tangerine from last 3 months in Sydney. Switching to Superloop next month to get the XMAS promo.

Tangerine internet is pretty good, never had much issues except one or two times speed was a bit slow but nothing serious. But they stop sending bills after 1 month. Although payments are deducted automatically at the middle of the month.

Their billing cycle always starts on the 1st of the month and ends on the last day.

There are no pro rata refunds.

Customer service is extremely poor. Wait times are 1 hour easy anytime of the day you call. Hence they have started using WhatsApp support these days. They reply in 2-3 hours but resolve your issues at once.

    My Ratings

    Internet Connection - 8/10
    Support Service - 3/10

Edit - I am on FTTC.

    • SL Xmas promo ends in 2 days. Call and ask if you can order in advance.

    • Be prepared for similar wait times if you move to Superloop

      • Already pre ordered. Got connected today afternoon.

  • Not sure about Tangerine, but would recommend you stay away from Superloop due to the terrible customer service (very long wait times) and dropouts. Moved to ABB and have had no issues since.

  • can I use referral $25 for 1st month payment for nbn25 - $44.90/mth plan? What would be the cost if I cancel it within 14 days trial or 1 month ?
should I pay any setup fee for below POI status? I tired to chat but it takes forever and no reply yet.

Premises technology Fibre To The Curb
    Premises service class 33
Premises service class description Serviceable by FTTC, cut-in complete (NCD required)
Premises readiness Ready to connect to the nbn!

  • Is returning customer eligible? I was with them until 30 October 2020.

  • Churned from Superloop to Tangerine this week - happy with the service Speedtest 9ms 47/18 on Friday evening on Vocus network for Southeast Melbourne. The activation downtime took about 1.5 hours from order placement. The only thing that tripped me up was they use PPPoE connection which my first router had some trouble with (which worked perfectly previously with AussieBB/Launtel/Superloop without PPPoE). Swapped to another router and worked fine. I am BYO router so can't fault Tangerine on this one. The technical support staff were patient/competent in line with general expectation. Phone wait time is slightly longer than I'd like but I don't ever need to call the ISP once it's up and running. I don't really understand why a provider would want to use PPPoE while other providers don't need it.

One thing special about Tangerine is that they provide a static routable public IP at no extra cost. While most people won't need this functionality it definitely has value for people making use of it. Most other providers charge extra for this. Good one Tangerine! No ipv6 though.

I don't use much connection to overseas so can't report what its overseas network is like. Ping time to west coast Google Cloud (Oregon) is about 220ms.

  • my 6 months cycle with tangerine will be ended in 2 days. I had no problem with the speed. maybe the other service could do it better. the deal is no longer valid for the existing customers so I am shopping for another discounted plan.

    • These 6-monthly churn is mildly annoying. Luckily NBN provider cutover is generally smooth enough to make this viable.

Superloop's 6-month price is roughly inline with Tangerine so can just switcheroo between these two I suppose.
Otherwise if bandwidth requirement happens to be low then Felix's 20/20 at $35/mth is an alternative if you have good Vodafone connection.

  • Seems like a good deal!

  • How is Tangerine in Perth WA

    I only have FTTN
