Still a big NO from me

    • why?

      • +17

3 months goes just like that

        • +2

Agree, make sure you set a reminder

        • +3

That's also 90 days, if that helps.

          • +1

@donman92: You only get 90 days January, February, March. Excluding leap years (Olympic years), those would be February, March, April.

            • @TEER3X: I use google reminders for all my trials. Works every time.

        • 💯 who cbf churnin

        • +1

@jimmykim Minus showers and meals and it'll go by like that!

      • +17

        Awful service and no accountability.

    • no opticomm plans only NBN

  • +10

    nope

  • +34

What a joke Telstra think they can get me to change for 3 months then double the price which is 40 % more than most other ISP s normal price .

    • +18

i completely get what you are saying, but in some cases, it takes less than 30 mins to change from 1 provider to another. Just set a reminder to change before the 3 months ends

      • exactly.

      • How smooth is the process? Will it transfer over at exact 12am midnight or next day expect some hours of disconnection?

        • +1

I got transferred randomly at around 8.30am, though admittedly that was on a Sunday - would allow a day of crossover if you need definite continuity

        • +1

I did the transfer for a few times. They happened automatically, didn't even need to reboot router/modem. But every time when I did that, I alwasy set the new entry date 1 day earlier than the old exiting date to avoid any loss of internet access. e.g, if your old plan stops on 1/10, set your new plan to start on 30/9.

      • NBN provider churning is next level frugality. Not for me though as I rely on static IP and customer service as priorities.

    • remember to return the modem, or they will charge you $200 non-return fee

  • +1

You mean 815/80 if that for the 1000/100 and I very much doubt that you could hit these speeds on the most congested network ever. Details matter…

    • i agree, updated

    • +1

I get 945/100 with Telstra on HFC

    • +1

I get 990/99 with telstra fttp

      • -6

Cool whatever, however I was referring to the speeds in the actual link that Telstra refers people would get 815/80 according to TELSTRA. Of course it depends on technology and distance, everything comes into play.

        • +2

More like so they don't get fines for misleading customers saying they will get 1000/100 for eg

    • I regularly got 930 download on Telstra FTTP
Used it in their $1 first month promo

Honestly $70 for the 1000/100 plan is pretty good

  • +6

    Hahaha that’s 50% off? Geez

    • +9

I'm a Telstra hater too, but I have to give credit where credit is due. I can only find 1 provider that is running a cheaper deal than this, but it only lasts for 2 months. All other ISPs that I could find that are running deals are more expensive than this.

      • +4

If you include cashback, you can do better on Superloop and Dodo for 6 months.

        • Didn't even think about TopCashback when signing up to the $63/m Dodo deal! I'm considering cancelling my pending activation and re-signing up…

        • Yes, nice deal too, but I'm with them right now. Had a 50% off promo for 6 months and some bill credit and EDR, not as much as this deal though. Now time to move on before their regular price kicks in.

Already gave them my 30 days notice. Best they were offering me to stay: $15 off their regular high price per month for another 6 months.

          • @team teri: You dont need to give Origin 30 days notice lol.

They are a major utility like Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, etc. Those companies dont require 30 days notice.

            • +1

@Water Bearer: Their T&C say otherwise.

And the 6 months 50% off discount is up there with the best prices, so why not use it to the end. Since I knew 5 months ago when I'll move again, easy enough to set a reminder for giving notice…

Wonder if I can apply this to an existing account ?

    • Give it a try and let us know

      • +1

Thanks buddy. Such a great idea 🙄

FYI I Can’t since my connection is scheduled for next month using jb hifi deal

        • I'm with JB deal too and don't think you can apply this given you're not a new customer really. You've already signed up via JB.

        • have u got gc already? then cancel NBN like others mentioned in original post.
wait a few days try to apply as new customer.

          • +1

@test8888: Got the GC but pre paid $99 for the first month that’s why I wanted to apply it to my current plan

Currently on Aussie telco free month and prior to that was buddy.

            • @Gotchas: Same here. I'll just stay for 1 month then leave. And come back if this deal is still available. I think it's a good price for NBN500.

        • +2

Great idea! My Telstra connection went active from that promo last week, so I'll see what I can do about changing my plan to this one for the next 3 months. That JB deal netted us $350 which helped bring my Apple Watch Ultra 3 down to $1080 (paid for the balance with 10% discounted GCs) but I had no intention of staying with Telstra beyond the first month. If I can switch to this plan for 3 months at a better rate, that beats churning to somewhere higher, even if it's just for a few months.

    • Could you churn out to somewhere like Launtel (daily billing) for a day then sign up?

      • People on here think it takes months to churn out of ISP's and change electricity providers.

    • I rang Complaints and got this added last month

  • +5

    Why is telstra so expensive
what's so special about their nbn and other shit?

    • +1

I wouldn't classify this deal as expensive. Their normal NBN price is high.

    • just like NRMA for the insurance business

  • +2

    Should be 50% off forever

    • +2

Amen brother!! Optimus Prime for Prime Minister

  • I am sticking with Arctel $50/m deal

    • I'm with that deal too. But leaving for JB/Telstra. Free $200 GC was too good to pass up. Or whatever the value was.

      • Yeah $200. Unless you managed to offload the Ring for $ also.

        • +1

Yeah I convinced JB to refund the Ring for $149 gift card in addition to the $200, will jump off Telstra after my month.

          • @cook99: Same here. It gave the price of my new watch a massive haircut 🤑

      • What is that deal? I am with arctel too but am not opposed to churning for some freebies

  • +3

Cmon Telstra, do a 1 month free trial 500/50 for BF next month, I want to try something, then I'll post it to OzBargain.

  • +8

$46 p/m for 25/5 is what it should cost every month. $93 p/m is just a bloody joke in this country.

  • +1

I signed up last week when this deal was posted in the 30% off’s comments. Pings are higher than Leaptel eg Leaptel 6ms CBR>SYD while I’ve seen Telstra give me 12ms CBR>CBR ! I think Leaptel also has much lower latency to gaming servers in Asia.

Also, Telstra seems to have some latency spikes when monitoring my connection. Rarely had any spikes with Leaptel.

    • -6

I still don't know why PC gamers on OzBargain all care about ping times and price of plans.

Just go with the cheapest and use ExitLAG on your PC.

It's about $90 per year, but it's consistent over any provider.

      • +3

Still won't be as good as directly using the best routing. Plus you won't have to run more bloat on your PC…

        • How would you know? RSP's don't know what routing for a specific game is, I'm sure the 100 MB bloat is too much.

          • +1

@GTR12: It might help if you're playing servers outside of AU but otherwise a good ISP is basically always better

            • @maimai: It's not, people are unaware here, try it before you neg.

  • +4

i consider this a potential real world saving of ~$15 p/m based on the 500/50 plan vs other providers…..
knowing what i know from working under a Telstra banner in the past and experiences with the service directly….i would rather not 'save' that $45 as my time and sanity is worth much more

  • Im on $129 a month with 750mbps could i not add the 1000mbps plan for 3 months to get the disocunt then go back down to 750?

    • +1

New services only. Yours wont be new, just a plan/speed change.

      • Thanks i couldnt even find the upgrade option in my account anyways!

        • +2

you need to change providers not 'upgrade'

you are realistically downgrading your wallet/OzB badge by paying those prices…

          • @warclone: Its for my parents account they have there phone and internet bundled i would never pay them prices alone ! Was seeing if i could save them in the short term for now!

I would never pay these prices for 750mbps myself

            • @leasky: my guy……

get yourself (them) an ATA adapter for like $20 off amazon, port the number to any voip provider which would likely be like $10/m
              then change from T…no excuses

              • @warclone: Yeh definitely need to look into this option they still own a home phone thats also the reason for not moving but im assuming this cable sorts that issue out

  • Has anyone who did the $200 gift card + Ring Doorbell tried to contact Telstra to ask to apply this discount?
Would be nice to adjust that $99 first month down!

    • +1

I tried 2 days ago when it was only 30% off - got told it had to be provided at order placement and no way to retrospectively add.

Didn’t try and push it but looking forward to some other early Black Friday deals to churn before i get a second month charge

    • I also tried, long story short, they said no but let me cancel my plan without paying anything, it was just 1 week after activation. So I moved to different good offer, keeping $200 gift card and ring door bell.

      • Haha well played!
I see the offer stated minimum cost is $95 so was worried they may try to charge the gift card and doorbell if I don't pay that first month

  • +4

    Telstra Means BIG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Gone are the days when they had their monopoly and looted innocent people for a long time.. Thugs will always be thugs

    • If I wasn't already on the $50 / 500/50 plan with Arctel for 6 months this would be a big YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, and then after the 3 months were up I'd go to the $40 500/50 plan with Amaysim for 2 months, and then after that I'd churn to whoever has the best deal! Who cares if you're with a different provider every few months….it literally takes minutes to swap, and there is always a cheap offer somewhere.

  • My internet usage has been Telstra (dial up), switched to Optus in the early 2000s (also dial up) then went to Telstra broadband. Have been with them ever since and have been luckier that my monthly price hasnt sky-rocketed to a bewildering amount. Sure its not $49.95 and hasn't been for years. But I havent had to pay more than $79, and yet the connection has evovled from xxx gb a month to unlimited. And a slow 20mbps to 100 years agoand 500 as of September.

    • +1

Are you trying to tell us that loyalty pays off? If so, be very careful…

      • Not really as everyones experiences are different. I realise that while I think its better the devil you know….. the grass can be greener on the other side.

        • Just messing with you. It's great that the big t works for you :)

  • Telstra are ok as long as you're prepared to lodge a TIO complaint for the overcharge when you leave

    • refund by cheque in the mail that'll cost you money to cash if you can even find a physical bank.

      • they still do that?
better off not paying the bill till it's corrected

  • -1

46 a month is half price?

  • Telstra has and always will be expensive. I remember when broadband was a thing. Before NBN ever existed. Telstra was basically the only provider and trying to stay under the monthly limit without being charged huge excess data fees or having a Telstra prepaid mobile plan run out after only 2 short calls was a pain. Until unlimited plans from other providers came along and solved everything.

  • +3

Since when was a 25/5 plan worth $92 p/m? That's daylight (profanity) robbery.

Edit: what's going on here? the 25/5 price is so comically high there can't be a rational explanation for it
