  • Telstra has and always will be expensive. I remember when broadband was a thing. Before NBN ever existed. Telstra was basically the only provider and trying to stay under the monthly limit without being charged huge excess data fees or having a Telstra prepaid mobile plan run out after only 2 short calls was a pain. Until unlimited plans from other providers came along and solved everything.

Since when was a 25/5 plan worth $92 p/m? That's daylight (profanity) robbery.

Edit: what's going on here? the 25/5 price is so comically high there can't be a rational explanation for it

    • Many places have no choice being stuck on FTTN until it gets upgraded who knows when to FTTP. Still there are much better plans from other providers if your stuck in this situation.

    • +1

$3.68 per Mb speed Vs 10c per Mb speed for those who are with NBN1000 and pay $100/M, working out to be 36.8 times the price. Nice.

Just did this deal and swapped from Optus to Telstra on 1000/100, took about 5-10mins after submitting the order for it to be connected. Ping went down from 35ms (Optus) to 4ms (Telstra) and currently getting 940/95 on a Eero Pro 7 mesh network (ping/speeds tested on a direct connection to a wireless backhaul mesh unit through another wireless backhaul mesh unit and then to the gateway eero).

Been burnt too many times. Telstra is a NO

  • +1

Too hard to cancel with Telstra. Your speak to 3 people before even speaking to the correct person for NBN.

    • +3

Can't you just join a new provider and they sort out the transfer?

      • If you have FTTP and a 4 port NTD you might want to spin the new service up on another port and keep the existing service for a day or so just in case there are any issues.

      • Depends how the new provider deal with the matter.
For FTTP some will want your connection details and then transfer you. Some will just create a new connection. Even if you get transfer you still need to meet your old provider notice period.

This is assuming you have a 4 port fttp.

I signed up for one of these deals a few years ago for a month or so. They sent one of those Telstra gateways which has a backup SIM in it and it's still active.

Telstra prices are just batshit crazy !!!!!

After the initial honeymoon deal do they really think that they are worth $28 a month more than Neptune or $18 per month more than Aussie Broadband for the same 500/50Mbps plan just because they chuck in a phone line?

  • Better yet Exetel $80 with $120 cashback. For three months, that means $40 per month for 500/50 plan.

    • It takes 90 days to get cashback and 30 days notice to cancel.

  • Curious how people switch straight away… don’t we have to give 30 days notice? (Exetel customer here)

    • +2

Not every ISP has that 30day notice period :)

    • Usually, not anymore, switched from Southern Phone to Moose and they do the disconnection and the reconnection if you have the service AVC number handy.

I got connected within 5 minutes, didn't even need to restart or change the modem settings. And Southern Phone disconnected automatically. I am FTTP

  • TPG 500/50 at $65 for 6 months. No issues so far.

Had it for 4 hours. 😆 Rapid swap over from Origin Internet. Ordered and connected in a day!!

    • +1

+1, been a week and good so far, hope they retain the offer

  • Is it worth paying $2 extra to go from 50/20 to 500/50?

    • yes

    • Depends if you have your NBN upgraded to FTTP or HFC. If you are still on FTTN then you cannot. So 100/20 is the most you can get. Which is still available on Telstra and for some reason not listed on this page. It is $56/month with the discount.

  • No offence to this deal but how does it have so many upvotes?

      • People love defending Telstra and their high prices.

          FTTP or HFC 500/50 $56/M, 750/50 $64/M, 1000/100 $69/M

          How's that high price?

        • Was previously on 250 with telstra for the past 3 years for 89 now on 69 for 1000 maybe try negotiating better

          • @chris666: Do you have other services with Telstra or just your home internet? I have tried bargaining with them without much luck so interested how you got that deal.

            • @turbodude: Mobiles as well got a $10 off discount on both of them for 6 months.. I rang up to see if I could get my $20 off the 250 plan continued and they said if I change to the 1000 or ultra fast I they could do 69 a month for 3 months for it

what's the point of 3 month? sign up and leave after 3 month?

    • yeap, i do that, i always sign up with NBN plans that are around $60-$70 for the 500/50 speed, soon as the 3/6 month discount ending i switch to a new provider, its very simple to change.

  • thinking to switch from tangerine to telstra. Not sure about service & technical support?

    • +1

      Really? Which ones?

  • +3

For anyone wondering, when I went through the sign up process it offered me any connection date between 27 Oct-21 Nov.

    • +1

Thanks mate, very useful information for me.

  • i must be the only person that looks for plans between $60-$70 and sign up to the promo length and switch as soon as it ends, i never pay more than $70 for 500/50 speed links.

This isn’t even a deal. It’s more of an effort disconnect.

    • wat?

  • arctel 500 50 for $50, 6 months… can't beat it

  • I'm currently with Telstra NBN. Do I need to port out before getting this deal? What's the best ISP for this? (I know Superloop is a bit annoying which requires a 30-day notice)

  • I have 750mm eaves, the exposed beams of the ceiling extend to outside supporting the eaves. Floor to ceiling windows so eaves fully visible.

Telstra installer drilled holes in all my eaves (10mts) and strung cable through these holes which ran next to the guttering, not next to the house, fully visible from inside the house - for real. Unbelievable!

Someone came back and did the job properly, patched every hole and painted all damaged beams, WTF!

  • I was with Telstra/Bigpond for literally 25 years. I left because at the time they'd removed their 100/40 offering for residential. The way their service was when I left I'd rather juggle cacti naked in a viper pit than go back. Oh and I can't juggle for peanuts.

  • This or dodo with $100 cashback?

  • Do they allow you to schedule a date into the future, I can switch until after 25 Nov to qualify for the $200 gift card for 90 days signup with Optus on the last deal

  • I just tried to get this offer and was told it's not available to current Telstra customers. Is that correct?

  • -1

I tried a 180 day prepaid SIM advertised for $13, charged me the full $39. Took me 4 weeks to get a refund for $26 with 3 final bosses. Telstra post paid. No way.

  • +1

Dumb question but I've never ported NBN providers before, been with optus for a long time and finally had enough of them. If you change your NBN provider, does it work like health insurance where your previous NBN provider has to rebate any part of your monthly fee that you haven't ended up using?

    OP and ozbargain, help please.

    Telstra Smart Modem
This plan includes a Telstra Smart Modem. If you already have a Telstra Smart Modem, check whether its compatible with this plan.
If you leave within 24 months, simply return your smart modem or pay a $200 non-return fee.

I already have the Deco x68. I don't want to use this silly telstra thing. Do I have any choices?
What do I choose on the checkout screen please?

Do you need a new modem?
No, I already have a compatible Telstra Smart Modem
Yes, I need a new Telstra Smart Modem

    • Also curious about this

    • I just spoke with chat support and they told me you have to use their modem. Deal breaker for me.

      • Thanks mate. Will go with Arctel instead.

      • yeah this is not correct, you don't have to use their modem at all.

    • Select this: No, I already have a compatible Telstra Smart Modem

    • Thanks all. I chose to go with Arctel anyways, $9 more, but it's locked in for 6 months. With BF round the corner, something else may pop up soon. I hate Telstra anyways, so saves me from having to deal with them. Or Floptus,
