Good price on the Galaxy watches. I am not sure how these fare against the competitors as my knowledge about smart watches is close to zero.

Note that this is the previous model.

Also note that, for some reason, they jumped from Galaxy Watch to Galaxy Watch 3.

People who have this smart watch is this a good bet.

    • I like it. Handy to get notifications without getting phone out or using Spotify (play, skip song, etc).

    • I have the 46mm. First smartwatch so can't compare to others but it's been solid so far. Great features. Call function works well. Gets a few days at least in battery. Bought mine from JB for $249 deal using a $50 discount code a few months ago.

    • I have the smaller 42mm. Battery lasts around 1.5 days.
Go for the 47mm if you want a weekly charge vs daily charge of this watch.
Bixby's voice-to-text is getting better but still drives me nuts sometimes.
At first I was always looking for new watch faces, new apps etc. Now I just use it for time and notifications, as well as texting using my voice 99% of the time.
Also the new wireless charger trio doesn't work with this watch.

I have had the 46mm for more than 2 years now. Paid $549 and absolutely love it. Looks like a normal watch and works well. Both 42mm and 46mm were $298 during boxing day sales last year.

  • Mine has been kicking strong since release date. Did a home reno wearing it the whole time and it survived. Bashed and scraped the bezel a quite a few times against concrete/brick and barely a mark on it. Used a screen protector on it though luckily. Very impressed. There really is no need no incentive for me to upgrade to the 3.

I have a gear S2 still going strong, no scratches on the face or anything…if this is anything like it it will be a good watch. The smart features add convenience, it's great to reply to important texts during a meeting with a couple of under the desk taps and not be the guy grabbing his phone.

  • How do the fitness features compare to finding like a Garmin?

    • If you're after it purely for fitness get a Garmin. As an all-rounder it's pretty good. I was using a 46mm Galaxy Watch but have since switched to a Garmin Instinct solar. I don't use any smart watch functions and pretty much use it for the fitness functions so the Garmin works much better for me.
The 4 week battery life is great compared to the 4 days I used to get with the Samsung.

  • 46 mm is $50 more at Harvey Norman

  • Using this with the galaxy A71 phone, works well, battery life is good charge every other day, but would probably go for three. Watch display is very good. Big readable and customisable

If your into fitness it works well with Strava app. Plenty of paid apps, I've not needed them, free apps seem to do everything I need.

The only criticisms I've seen relate to using it with Spotify(apparently does not work well for offline play) or using it with Samsung's built in music app. There are other apps you can buy to handle music.

Built in app does not handle playlists. For me like a true Ozb member, I just record playlists or tracks from wifeys Apple music and then download them directly to the watch from the phone. So offline is no problem.

If music access and flexibility is a big issue, suggest you research the paid apps first.

But yes it's a good smart watch with minimal annoying intrusions and very configurable.

Oh almost forgot, Samsung Pay is great, one of the few payment methods that supports all the best debit cards, works really well.

  • I ordered the S3 Frontier over 5 years ago for $600. Very impressed with the engineering. I've changed the battery once and still going strong. Alas it's no longer water resistant. It's handy for picking up phone calls without taking out your phone and is a stylish looking watch. I also use the step counter a fair bit.

    • Can I ask where you got the battery changed? By Samsung? Roughly how much was it?

  • What is the sleep tracker like in this watch
