  • Decent price in the current market. I miss the dual boiler deals of old :(

Yep, I got my black one for $450ish from HN with an amex deal a couple years back, doubt we will see those proces again. When mine dies I will definitely consider going dual boiler, awesome machine.

    • How many coffee machines are you buying?

      • If you buy the Barista Express, use it regularly and occasionally want to make drinks for guests, you kick yourself for not having a dual boiler due to the additional few minutes it takes in comparison.

    • Yep, I was very sad to hear the dual boiler (BES920) was discontinued by Breville last year. Had mine for 5 years now and absolutely love it.

Does the red unit make your coffee faster? :)

(I actually don't mind this colour)

    • Probably not, we have 3 red ones now and I have a black one. My parents had the stainless steel one previously which was a pain to clean, red or black would be my pick.

    • red makes everything faster;))

Can't help sharing a very cheap dosing funnel for Breville 54mm system I found recently:
    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/9185/maste… (use the glass bottle)
The size fits perfect and it is see through so you can mark your ideal level and get it right every time.

    • I'm intrigued how a glass bottle/jar is a funnel. Please share.

      • In this video a glass cup is used for same purpose, jump to 1:55.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0g8umpINGQ

This ginger jar works even better for me since the glass jar fits into the inside of filter perfectly - leaving a small 2mm gap between wall of the filter and top bit of coffee powder, so the powder doesn't come out easily.

It is more useful then it looks like, I make every cup with it. Well even just for the ginger ($19/kg) it is still a bargain.

        • Thanks for that, that's interesting. When you said funnel I imagined a ring-collar to prevent coffee grinds from spilling around when you place the portafilter under the grinder.

And this is what you're using the jar instead of. $37.

          • @pizzaguy: yup, they're definitely using a jar as a dosing cup … not as a dosing ring or funnel as you provided the link to. Which you want to use is all very much a personal thing and depends on things like your grinder, so good luck all.

I now need recipes with ginger in it. Been looking at dosing funnels. There is a 3D printed on like $50 odd dollars which fits onto your portafiller. This idea is alot cheaper.

      • Check Amazon

      • I happen to have that masterfood ginger jar in my fridge. They also make a chopped chilli and a chopped garlic that they sell in the same sized jar if that helps ;-). Great for stir frys.

    • Excellent idea! I tried it today with an old Masterfoods mustard jar. I think any of the Masterfoods jars will fit.

    • I found something like this works much better: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08FZR4QZ1

Can tamp while the funnel is still on - no mess. Otherwise the grinds go everywhere.

Ex Supra owner :'( regret selling mine… That would have been a high yield investment.

  • None at Osborne Park. How many were in stock at Cannington?

    • I think there were at least 2-3 on the shelf, not sure if they had more at the back.

  • None left at that price
