Games share with a mate for half price

      • +1

or you know, buy the whole game for half price

      • +22

It’s harder to get deals on digital-only consoles

        • +1

Picked up Immortals on Digital for $50

      • +17

if you’re not an absolute moron you can get games for $80-$100

You're an absolute moron if you pay that much for games. Especially on OzBargain.

    • +32

Digital only consoles are a scam. At least with Xbox you have game pass , PlayStation is just full RRP, ouch.

      • Also xbox is making gold access free for all free-to-play games .. i just wish they fixed their EPG guide

        • +6

Isn’t that already a thing with PlayStation? Free online for free to play games

        • +1

Have been a staunch sony man but ,don't buy many full pricegames anymore , this free to play gaming seems to be the way forward, what's the xbox gold access?costs per month?

          • +3

@Francis82: Free to play are filled with micro-transactions, loot boxes and cosmetics (ads too but usually that’s free to play mobile games).
You could get away without spending anything but I’ve found lots of people end up purchasing eventually because the game is set up to tempt you to buy stuff.

            • +3

@FireRunner: Yea fcuk that shit ,just want to pick up and play some half decent games, with no fuss, been playing console's 30years don't have the time anymore as you get older . Sad to say! haha, so access to more games rather than just the free ones monthly from ps plus ,is starting to turn my head to see what the xbox has got to offer!

              • @Francis82: It’s no better bro. I was hoping the ps5 could help me out.

        • Second that EPG issue!

    • +3

Almost every big release has already been on sale digitally.

As long as you're patient, digital can be just as cheap if not cheaper.

Eg. All Ubisoft and EA sports next gen games have been between $33 and $49 on PSN.

      • +7

digital can be just as cheap if not cheaper.

You say digital can be cheaper, gumtree says you're wrong. :)

      • digital can be just as cheap if not cheaper.

LOL no, that's on PC where you're not locked in to a single online store with no alternative.

Looking at Nintendo charging $60 for vanilla Skyrim in 2021 if you want to know what owning a PS5 digital will be like: https://store.nintendo.com/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim.html

At least Switch owners can buy second-hand…

  • Looks like gone…

I regret not getting the Digital Version. The Disk version just looks so ugly to me :(

    • +25

Considering how expensive games are this generation, you're better off with the disc version. Digital games are more expensive at launch, you can't resell them, and buying used isn't an option.

      • +17

Plus 4K Bluray playback as an extra bonus. Don't understand the Digital version at all - no reselling of games, most games at RRP, no Bluray support, etc.

        • +6

Right. The only argument for the digital edition is that it's cheaper, but you're going to make that money back, and then some, pretty quickly with how much cheaper physical games are, and reselling, etc.

        • +1

I bought the disc version but I also completely understand the digital version.

          • Convenience of swapping between games.
          • Preloading.
          • Less waste in terms of plastics, emissions, etc.
          • In terms of films and videos, you can still stream essentially everything you could want through the machine.

It doesn't suit me because I have a Blu-Ray collection and I love pure 4K content, but for a huge amount of people the drive will be completely irrelevant. For the more "hardcore" gamers, the disc version is obviously the better option because of flexibility. However, for people just hopping on board to the consoles for the first time, there is absolutely an argument for the digital version even with the increased costs of games at launch.

          Just an opinion of course.

          • -1

@bushywookiee: I hope you are right, and Sony just start discounting their online store heavily and regularly for some reason.

But I suspect they won't. If they continue as they have been, the total cost of owning a digital PS5 will end up being multiple times the cost of a disk one, even if you bought the exact same games over the life of the console.

Take a look at the price-gouging switch owners get, and they CAN buy second-hand games.

            • +2

@ItsMeAgro: Can’t see Sony dropping those digital prices, but these days I’m increasingly less interested in playing games on launch anyway. Happy to wait for digital sales which are often very good.

              • +2

@bushywookiee: Yeah if you examine the pricing history of pretty much any major game on a site like psprices you will see that it goes on sale pretty much every other month and that when it does, it’s sale pricing is in line with the average sale price on pc when looking at sites like isthereanydeal.

I personally have watch lists on both sites for both platforms and the same bunch of games and find that when games are on sale, its the same digital sale everywhere and it’s literally just a question of which system you prefer playing on.

All these people throwing shade on the playstations digital store, I don’t get it. I mean if you compare it to scooping up someone’s else second hand games off gumtree then sure. But in a one to one retail experience and official purchases, the digital store is amazing especially if you account share with a bestie and only buy games when they are at their cheapest ever price.

Ignoring the fact that given enough time it seems like every blockbuster game makes it to ps plus at some point. I stopped getting physical games 3-6 months into owning a ps4 and I never intend to own another physical piece of media again in my life.

    • +9

Really, you regret buying because of the external aesthetic of the console?
They’re not even that different looking

    • +3

Seriously don't understand this whole obsession over aesthetics of a video games console. Don't understand people wasting time and money on face plates, plasti dipping etc.
      It's a video game console….

      • Yeah, I don't get it either, I just want something that will fit in and blend into my TV cabinet.

        • Same here. I don't get it.

Just like I didn't get the ps5 from this and other deals. Cry!

      • +3

I've personally got a pretty vintage style set up in my living room, and like I understated looking things. The PS5 is a complete eyesore in this set up, stands out and looks terrible.

        • +2

One benefit of the series X … I just have it nicely behind my TV (far right hand side so can still put disks in) in vertical orientation.
You wouldn't even know its there being a plain black box, so understated.
It would also work fine horizontal where my old One X was but the vertical orientation makes so much more sense with the way the fan pulls air from bottom through to top.

Can the PS5 go vertical behind your TV perhaps?

          • +2

@dlcx: I've got a similar set up with the the Series X too. And yeah I've tried to place the PS5 behind the TV, but it's still just an Eyesore (It's flipping massive, makes the SeriesX seem tiny). The second they update the model and make a slim I'm changing right over. I'll definitely invest in some black plates though. The white does make it look larger and more obvious against my mostly wooden aesthetic going on.

            • +1

@ONEMariachi: Yeah fair enough the white does make it harder that’s for sure.

              • @dlcx: The other side of it is I want to mount my tv soon too haha big pain in the arse haha

    • +2

I'll also be moving to Japan with my wife and kids as soon as travel restrictions are eased this year. I can take my PS5 with me, but I can't take a whole library of physical games too. Digital is just more convenient for it to be stored in the cloud rather than in a tiny 2bedroom apartment in inner city Sydney - or even worse - a tiny 2 bedroom apartment in Kobe Japan…

      • +1

Same boat…but bigger question for me how would I carry my Xbox series x and PS5? :( not sure about the hassles and risks of theft with these consoles.

      • +1

LOL how many games are you planning to buy? 10 or 20 is a modest sized CD wallet. Not to mention that would set you back $1200 to $2500.

    • +2

Just put a macca's bag over it and enjoy ;)

  • Added to cart and goneee

  • +12

These recent ps5 deals last longer than I do

  • +1

Gone? Okay I guess I'll watch out for them on eBay in the next few weeks

  • +1

I’m looking through posts for that one low life who berated the guy last week for posting a PS5 Disc edition, telling him that it wasn’t a deal because apparently they are quite easy to buy now !

He pulled the post quite quickly

    • +3

Yeah, pay twice as much and spend time configuring a PC and maintaining it. The idea of a games console is you step on and step off when you please.

      • +8

Yeah I'm with you. I'm getting older now and couldn't be stuffed trying to trouble shoot games etc. I'm wrecked after work and putting kids to bed etc.
By then just want to sit on the couch and play.

I had a better PC than my One X and never used it as HDR was always playing up, resolution would mess up, would have to hack stuff to try get it to maximise my video card (i.e. 1800P res hack), dealing with controller issues, crashes to desktop and so on.
I just play on couch so don't need 150+ frames per sec. My TV can't even support that (wish it could do 120 fps that would be cool).
Anyways the One X played just as well, HDR was flawless and just worked every time.

I've since moved on to a Series X (as too costly to upgrade my PC…) What you get for it is great from $ perspective vs buying a new equivalent PC.
        Quick resume so good.

If I really wanted to make a difference over the Series X I'd need to drop a LOT on a PC build. Can't justify it right now.

        • +1

Agree 100%. Have a powerful gaming PC that gets very limited gaming outside the odd title. Far nicer to sit on my comfortable recliner, put a disc in and not worry about Windows/Steam/Driver updates.

          • -1

@Darkscythe: I’ve been thinking of building a gaming PC.
But apart from the fact that you can’t buy components, when you watch game reviews, you can’t just play a game … you have to spend hours configuring video settings in the game, only to then have little glitches throughout.
            Consoles make life so simple.

        • I'm actually in the same position. Great PC except I've been playing more and more Xbox and Switch games due to how quick and easy it is to start and stop playing.

        • Depends on the type of game you play I guess, lots more variety on PC from what I've seen. If you just wanna play the big multiplayer ones, or the AAA story games the consoles are great for sure. Then again, it's been a while since I looked at the library for consoles so I could be wrong here.

    Damn what a bargain

  • is ps5 cracked yet

Just placed an disc order from theGoodGuys, says that my order will dispatch from week 3 of Feb.

    • My Harvey's order says late Feb as well. I think they're arriving in country about 20th Feb.

  • +1

Try JB. I got a text yesterday afternoon to say my PS5 was ready for pickup. Rang up to confirm and the guy knew my name straight away when I asked.. All I did was add my name to some sort of ‘wait list’ the week before and I didn’t pay a deposit or anything.

  • Harvey Norman order of 8 Feb is ready for pickup in Canberra

  • PS5 Disc Ready for pickup in Loganholme QLD!

Only one week after order, I am pleasantly surprised Jerry! :)
