    First time limit eased?

  • This will be great consolation prize for when you go to get the $500 $250 MCs and they are all sold out.

  • +1

Please correct me if I’m wrong, it’s essentially 10% gift cards discount, 1000/2000/4500 Coles points equivalent $5/$10/$20 and doesn’t seem much a deal to me.

    • +1

What would you prefer, this or 10% added on top? Those are the only deals you'd get when buying DJs gift cards from supermarkets

      • -2

I don't get out of bed unless it's 120% off.

They should be paying me 20% on top of the gift card, and it better be served on a silver platter

Otherwise, it doesn't seem much a deal to me.

        • +1

          Isnt 120% off free?

          • +2

            @Chchnu:

it better be served on a silver platter

            Whoosh

      • None either, I prefer higher discount because once I buy the gift cards, my money is trapped there. Plus, I only redeem 2000 points ($10) per Coles visit and things at DJs usually is overpriced.

    • +2

Better than a kick to the nuts if you're buying something from DJs anyway. Also a way to earn cc points at supermarket rates.

    • +4

Not quite. If you purchase 1x $200 David Jones gift card, you will earn 200 base Flybuys points and 4500 bonus Flybuys points. 4700 Flybuys points is equivalent to $23.50 Flybuys dollars, so it is effectively a 11.75% discount. David Jones sells a large range of Apple products, so (up to) 11.75% off is a reasonable discount, especially for Apple products that rarely or never go on sale (e.g. iPad 8th gen).

      • Are you sure Coles are offering flybuys points on giftcards still? Last time they didn't offer base points and only bonus points for me.

        • When was “last time”?

          • @WookieMonster: Last giftcard was a month ago and was a Coles Mastercard giftcard bonus points promo.
Last third party was an ebay card under bonus points promo 3-4 months ago.

(It used to trigger the spend $X get Y points promos over Z weeks promo, that was over a year ago though.)

            • +1

@Trance N Dance: That’s interesting, because I also bought a Coles MasterCard this time last month as part of that promo you mentioned, and I got 2105 points credited to my account.

        • In my experience they give base points.

      • -1

My understanding is that you don't earn base FB on giftcard purchases, (https://www.giftcards.com.au/giftcardtermsofuse#17), only when bonus points are on offer.

So it would remain as the a 10% off, unless you use a discounted Coles Giftcard (ie AAMI rewards) to purchase the giftcard to receive additional discount.

        • +2

It sounds like both of you are getting confused with Woolies, who don't offer base points unlike Coles.

          • @kerfuffle: Woolies used to give base points on third party gift cards when they had a bonus points promo, they stopped it about 12-18 months ago though.

            • @Trance N Dance:

Woolies used to give base points on third party gift cards when they had a bonus points promo, they stopped it about 12-18 months ago though.

I never got base points at Woolies ever, and I've been buying third-party gift cards for a number of years now.

              • @kerfuffle: There were base point back in the time buying a EFTPOS hit card for $106.95 earn 2000 points(less than 2 years ago), which we can also use the points to buy more EFTPOS gift cards. I am 100% sure they also give base points on this. I have bought over $5k so it was happening.

I stop buying gift card at Woolworths after they stop people using the reward dollar to buy gift card.

                • @SnoozeAndLose: Those were the good old days, you could use giftcards and reward dollars to purchase EFTPOS and Only1 giftcards.

              • @kerfuffle: So have I and there was a period of time where Woolies issued points based on value of giftcard+activation fee and then activation fee only and then stopped.

I remember this because I was surprised to see the points earned at the bottom of the receipt not being multiples of 500/1000 but was 2105 or something like that. (And giftcards were the only things purchased in those transactions)

                • @Trance N Dance: Well, no wonder there's confusion. You guys are talking about EFTPOS and prepaid credit cards that have activation fees, not gift cards like the ones in the OP which don't come with base points (or activation fees) and never have.

        • +2

I am aware that the terms and conditions specifically exclude earning base Flybuys points on gift card purchases, but I’ve always received base Flybuys points on the purchase of 3rd party gift cards at Coles. I have never purchased a Coles or Coles Group & Myer gift card at Coles, so I cannot tell you whether those earn base Flybuys points.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Coles offers base flybuys points whereas Woolies doesn’t on gift cards.

      • -3

Really good point on the 11.75% however I think it's too much efforts to buy gift cards and apply to get 11.75% discount whereas JB Hifi something has 10% discount on Apple products plus cash back if lucky. If I max out gift cards limit, $2k x 1.75% difference, it's $35 dollar discount for 2k purchase which is reasonable savings, but not for me. Plus, I only can redeem $10 (2000 points) per Coles visit, in order to redeem $2k dollar gift cards which is 4700 x 10 = 47,000 / 2000 = 24 times Coles visits which is a trap to force people to shop at Coles to redeem points. It may be good for people who love Coles.
Apart of Apple products, other things usually jack up in DJs. If something is on sale and hopefully not posted there, then I don't think I have time to redeem gift cards.
If I buy and don't use gift cards straight away, then my money is trapped and will get to the point where I can't handle any more and just damn it, I will buy anything regardless the price.

        • you should change your name then

        • +1

whereas JB Hifi something has 10% discount on Apple products plus cash back if lucky.

This is only ever applied on Macs.

I've never seen a storewide blanket 10% off Apple, especially iPhones which people seem to really like.

That's part of the Coles marketing strategy..
I don't know about you, but I have to buy food regularly, it'll either be Woolies or Coles or Aldi.

Apart of Apple products, other things usually jack up in DJs. If something is on sale and hopefully not posted there, then I don't think I have time to redeem gift cards.

David Jones also have luxury goods such as Louis Vuitton (not my cup of tea, but just an example) that don't do discounts.
However, using DJs gift cards, you effectively do get a discount on something that's never discounted.

Are you going to tell me you can find an LV bag on 10% off at JBHifi too?

          • -1

@cwongtech: Nope, nothing I can say, they're all good points. Thanks for correcting me, will buy gift cards at some points if I can affort a LV bags or luxury item.

            • @BargainIsKing:

Thanks for correcting me, will buy gift cards at some points if I can affort a LV bags or luxury item.

Females also buy expensive makeup from DJs or skincare

Firstly you have to convert all your flybuys points to flybuys dollars via the app or the website. Let’s say you have 10,000 points, convert it to $50 flybuys dollars. Then go to Coles and do shopping of any amount and ask the cashier that you will pay via flybuys dollars. Then swipe your flybuys card and you can redeem all your flybuys dollars at once.

    • 4500 points=$22.5

  • This offer looks good, and it doesn't mention gift card purchase. So we might be able to purchase with Coles Master Gift Card ( was 10% off).
BTW, if I buy two 200 cards, does that mean I can get 9000 points, or it has to be paid separately?

    • BONUS POINTS can only be collected up to 10 times per Flybuys account and can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card.

So I'm assuming it fine in the same transaction.
