Most Chinese only buy this drink to flex to their family and friends how rich they are, not necessarily to drink

For some others its like investment, the value of these are going up in Mainland, so some people just buy and hold..

    • Really show off will buy Louis XIII. It is quite normal to drink it now especially on big event like Chinese NY.

What the heck is this, some sort of cleaning product?

    • +2

Yes its cleans your wallet of its money.

    expensive hand sanitiser.

  • Cheers, got some.

  • Never had it, so does it really taste of tropical fruits, pears, smoky nuts and sweet plums?

So they forgot to change the Made in China label and Australian made tag?
    What an oversight?

  • How is this a deal? What does it normally go for?

    • $420 @DM

  • Somehow my wife got invited to some super rich mainlander's wedding this one time and I tagged along with her.

Unlimited alcohol. Everything was good stuff. They had Chopin vodka, Hennessy cognac and this Chinese stuff just lined up along the bar. I had never drank Chopin before, anything above Grey Goose was essentially unknown to me. Got absolutely hammered on Chopin. Very good vodka. At some point along the line I tried the moutai, I think it was okay.

Somehow the family had gone from being dirt farmers to being absolutely loaded. Don't ask me how, somebody related the story to me but I can't remember. The one image I remember is the old people, the groom's grandparents, sitting silently at their table, peering out of their eye sockets in this sense of shock masquerading as polite befuddlement. Spent their whole lives desperately eking every handful of rice out of some plot of soil, and now watch all the kiddies piss Hennessy up against the wall. Progress. I nodded my respects to them on my way to the toilet.

Let me get it strait. The company that makes this wine, the market value is 3000B RMB, which is around 600B AUD.
NAB bank the market cap is 130B AUD.

So this wine company = 4.6 NAB bank.

Now if it's a cleaner, what is NAB bank look like?

  • Any rhino horn or bear bile in this?

    Not. Remotely. Impressed.

  • What's the normal price?

  • Am I the only person who has no idea what this is?

    • Chinese white liquor that varies in flavour profile brand-to-brand, like whiskey. Some say it tastes like socks, some soy sauce, some pineapple, etc etc.

I once had 1.5 bottle of moutai myself at dinner with friends, got totally drunk and got sent home Unconscious.

next morning, I woke up with 0 headache and felt great.

Then started to appreciate how good it is.

The taste is strong and agreesive.

    • Yeah, this thing is known for not giving you hangovers. But I rather drink some thing cheaper and have a day of hangover than spending $600 to not get one.

    A political alcohol in China.
Made and sold by CCP owned company.

  • Is this better than Yamazaki? I wouldn’t pay this ridiculous amount for any drink especially ones that I don’t know anything about. Maybe it is a niche product revered by the Chinese population worldwide and therefore that massive price tag.

    • Its more of a Chinese flex than an actually great thing to drink.

      Yamazaki is chef's kiss.

    • It's totally different to Yamazaki. Sort of like asking what's better a nice wine or a nice beer.. depends on what you like. If you like Baijiu, particularly sauced aroma Baijiu, then Moutai is top shelf. If you like Japanese whisky then some bottlings of Yamazaki are very good, if you like very peaty whiskies then maybe most of what Yamazaki releases won't be your cup of tea.
