OzBargain nbn Upgrade Requests Make ABC News!

We made ABC news!
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-10/nbn-how-to-get-full-f…

Hundreds of thousands of Australians are set to receive free or subsidised full-fibre internet upgrades in coming years. But that has not stopped tens of thousands of Australians yearning for fast internet from asking NBN Co how much an immediate upgrade costs, including 8,000 in the past week alone.

Given this post has 12277 clicks, almost all of these requests came from Ozbargainers:

I doubt it. The news was on other websites and some OzBargainers already have FTTP.

  • I liked the old system that gave instant quotes. That didn't last long at all!

But that is not instant…. You have to request it and wait. The old 'instant' system was punch in your address and within minutes you would get emailed a price!

I got my $11k quote the other day on the website, no waiting at all.

        • You are the first to say that. Maybe it was a bug.

@Twix: Strange, didn't work earlier, but I tried another address of a family member and got a quote instantly. Maybe my address is now one of those 'special' ones.

Interesting, last time I did that address the quote was ~$4k to upgrade, now its $12k!!!!

Ahh NBN the gift that keeps on giving.

@JimmyF: What a jump in price! Is that HFC?

              • +1

@Twix: Yep HFC… I checked my messages and yep it was ~$4k. I was shocked it was so cheap last time.

      • I did this the other day to see how much it'd cost out of curiousity and was quoted around $10k.

I think I'll be waiting a while to see if anyone closer to the node upgrades and check the pricing again at the end of the year. That or wait for NBN to finally do the work on my line that has a remediation date that is at the end of 2022 since my line isn't up to scratch after multiple visits by NBN over the last couple of years.

I've lived at the same address for several years but am renting so definitely not wanting to incur a large cost by being the 1st person on the block to attempt a FTTP upgrade.

That or waiting and waiting to see if they push my FTTN area up to FTTP eventually, or relocating but not too keen on that currently even though my internet is very average with poor upload speeds. Sucks because I'm physically 300 metres from my node but I'm at the end of the line cabled the wrong way around the block. They were apparently meant to connect me to the shorter section that goes across the street but didn't.

    … at selected FTTN places.

  • And the clowns Assbott and Turdstain said no one wanted or needed more than 25mbps.

  • and news outlets want Google to pay for their trashy articles which are based on OzBargain post or Kmart mum post…..

    awesome

  • Slightly offtopic But
