    Cheapest ever for the Lenovo Thinkpad T14 G1 - AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U 16GB RAM 512GB SSD 3YR Depot - $1271.20 ($1,239.42 ebay plus).

    • Isn't the IdeaPad S540 better than this? That's been at $1079 before I believe.

      • I'm not a student - am I able to use the store without a student id/email? I presume not.

      • +4

The Macbook Air is only good for those that want to run macOS. What about those that want to run Windows or other operating systems such as Linux and the applications they support.

    • +1

I'd argue the Thinkpad X13 with the same system specs but a better 300nit screen is worth the extra money ($1,325)

      • +1

There's a fair bit more to the comparison than the processor and brightness. X13 has:

        • smaller screen (preference)
        • less connectivity (no dock port, no Ethernet, fewer USB3 ports)
        • single soldered RAM slot (vs T14's one soldered and one free)

        As always, do your research.

        • +1

I did do my research. And subsequently purchased the X13.

          • Smaller but brighter screen.
          • It comes with an ethernet adapter in the box, and a proprietary port on the left for said adapter, so it doesn't take up either of the 2 typeC ports.
          • It actually has 2 ram slots, although both are soldered. So it's running in dual channel, which according to your information, the T14 isn't.
          • +3

@Rail Rider95: The "do your research" wasn't directed at you, sorry. Just a general reminder for people to look carefully before making purchases. One size doesn't fit all.

          • +1

@Rail Rider95: hows the battery life?

            • @ShotzAU: Not amazing, but I mostly use it on power. Gets about 7hrs so far on regular use

              • @Rail Rider95: what do you recommend for someone who wants to spend $1700 max i want something reliable, fast, decent screen and good battery life no issues heat etc

                • @ShotzAU: Honestly, not sure mate. That was above my budget (even the X13 was a stretch for me), so I didn't really look. Any of the 4000 Ryzen 5 or 7 chips seem good, but I vastly prefer the Ryzen Pro chips, which was a fairly limiting factor in my shopping.

                  • @Rail Rider95: did you buy a x13? if so did you buy on lenovo site or ebay? and can you upgrade the screen or battery life?

                    • @ShotzAU: I did buy an X13 (at $1,600 because I needed it then and there). I bought from FutuOnline on eBay. The Lenovo eBay store deal is much better.
I'm not sure if you can upgrade the screen, some research says maybe? I doubt the battery is replaceable or upgradeable.
Only thing that is made to be replaced on this is the SSD

                      • @Rail Rider95: can you link the ebay x13 deal please ive searched everywhere i was thinking of purchasing a x1 gen 7 but not sure

                      • @Rail Rider95: also hows the speaker on the x13 , does it include a type c charger port? and any bugs or issues? flickering screen, over heating etc?

      • Do you know if the screen is a touch screen type? So tempted to pull the plug and jump on this. Hmm 🤔

  • If I bought a laptop on the weekend from a different eBay store (using PayPal), that's now $250 cheaper here, is there any way to claim the price difference?

I'm assuming not, but hoping someone with better bargain knowledge than me can help.

    • +1

Buy both and try to resell one at the more expensive price point?

    • +1

Try to cancel with the seller first. Maybe pay only return postage

      • I considered that, but I've already set up the laptop. So it would probably end up with a restocking fee if I returned it.

    • +1
      • +1

I've just been going through that actually.
Got told that it doesn't apply in this case, because the item that dropped in price is also on eBay.
The price guarantee only applies when the price drops at a competing (authorised) retailer apparently.

      • eBay price guarantee only applies for the first 48 hours. not very useful

    • +1

On a totally unrelated note, I would strongly suggest that "Lenovo Thinkpad ThinkPad X13 - AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U 16GB RAM 512GB SSD" is good value at the current price of $1,325.
(Not quite as good value as the old deal for the S540.)

Why does the title and description have different specs? can anyone confirm ?

    • Quick google of the manufacturer part number listed, suggests that the description of an i3 is correct, meaning the title is wrong?

Best bet is to message the seller to confirm.

  • any deals on X1C Gen 9?

  • +2

The first laptop I looked at would be much cheaper direct through Lenovo using cash back so double check.

  • I was going to buy a Dell Latitude but noticed they usually have 3 cell battery. Anyone can tell me how long that battery lasts? I am looking for a 13.3" or 14" laptop whose battery lasts for at least 5 hours. Checked online and found out that 3 cell battery lasts for average 2 hours.

    • +1

Should be able to get at least 7-8 hours out of most laptops that size

This one mentioned above looks decent:-

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-ThinkPad-X13-AMD…

      • yes everything looks perfect except bad reviews about the display on Lenovo's website

        • Dell Latitudes are Dell's business grade laptops. They should generally last you 7-8 hours where the screen is of smaller orientation (14 or 13.3" screens).

Source: I use a Dell 7390 and it lasts me around 5 hours even though the battery is approx 2.5 years old. It used to be around the 7-8 hours mark in the beginning

        • +2

The display is really only "bad" if you were to compare it to say, a Macbook Pro equipped with a Retina display with 500 (but realistically 408) nits of brightness. But that's a $1999 dollar machine ($673 more) and the Lenovo is somewhat more comparable to a entry level, base-spec Dell XPS 13.

The standard IPS display with 1080p @ 278 Nits is comfortable enough to use — except in cases where you're working directly under sunlight. It would let you down if you were a hardcore content creator and were using it for Photoshop but for everyday use I'd say it's acceptable

          • @scrimshaw: It's not about the brightness or resolution, almost all reviews say that despite good brightness and resolution, the privacy based view has ruined the screen even when the feature is turned off. When the feature is on, whole screen is crap and when you turn off the feature, top and bottom of the screen is crap, very dull.

          • @scrimshaw: here is one of the reviews

Privacy Guard screen (even when the privacy mode is off) makes this laptop totally unusable. My 15 year old laptop has a better screen that this one. You can totally ignore the high NIT numbers, the LCD is just horrible! You can see a brightly lit center of the screen if you look directly at it, and everything else will be dimmed. It becomes much worse if you are looking from a small angle. To me it is a deal breaker and I will try to return this laptop. I have also bought a cheaper Thinkpad E14, and it has much better display.

            • +2

@sidozziee: I don't have this feature on my device, and the viewing angles on this is fairly standard for an IPS display. It's definitely better than the VA panel on my Haswell-era HP Elitebook G1 Folio.

I believe Privacy Guard feature is absent from the X13 unless you were to specifically order it from lenovo — it is not a standard feature and is purchased as an Add-on because it involves customizing the actual hardware (LCD panel model is different).

Yes Privacy Guard display is terrible on pretty much any laptop.

              • @scrimshaw: I am looking a laptop for my high school going son. usually parents prefer cheaper models for students but I think kids can be careless at times and therefore better build quality is needed. For that reason, would you recommend Latitude or Thinkpad?

                • @sidozziee: Dell Latitudes tend to be significantly more expensive and they don't have Ryzen APU's, only Intel,

I recommend looking at the Dell Latitude 5310, which is a middle-of-the-road business laptop with 13 inch chassis in similar price range. It'll cost more than the Thinkpad 13 if you pick the 16GB RAM option. Important to note that it's typically specced with Single Channel memory, but it does have 2 DIMM slots if you want to populate the second one.

But If I had to choose, the Lenovo Thinkpad being offered here is better value, but it's possible that Dell might have a better warranty service (don't really know because I haven't been a Dell customer for many years).

                  • @scrimshaw: I do have experience with Dell warranty. Whenever I had any issue, technician would come to my home and replace parts sttaightaway if needed. Online techinical support was excellent as well.

                • @sidozziee: Was same boat a few years ago and went and got two dell latitude for both my kids but refurbished from dell. Big regret for me as only had one year warranty and both of them had issues. However, their warranty service is great as they come to your place and replace parts and they didn’t take chance and replaced most main parts, memory, hard disk and motherboard. This is for one that was still under warranty, the other died just outside the one year warranty. If you go with dell get one with three years warranty and try avoid refurbished. Some people have good experience with refurbished but not my case and with two laptops as well.

My work Lenovo thinkpad has been going strong for 3 years and still no issues.

                  • @j1568: after discussing with some friends who have technical knowledge, i decided to go with macbook air for same price. specs are good enough for school work and battery is amazing. $1439 at officworks

                  • @j1568: which thinkpad do you recommend or a laptop in general im looking for one thats fast and reliable, good screen and battery life no bugs or issues budget $1700 or less but im stuck

    • Not recomended Lenovo any more…
Adviced my friend on a Lenovo E495 ($800)last year for the kid school…Brand new battery lasted 2.5 hours. After 1 year now just a little over 1 hour, useless… (lost my credibility) Real user, not bs review…
End up bought a mac air i5 and install windows on it..

      • +1

I don't have any experience with Lenovo but I am typing this on my 2012 Dell XPS which is still working perfectly except it becomes slow when running Photoshop or hardly runs Premiere.

  • +1

I'm not seeing much difference to their AU website pricing for the Lenovo Thinkpad E14 G2. Now if their ebay pricing started at their current website pricing then I would probably jump at 20% off that.

  • Any touchscreen deal?

  • Thinkpad T15g is actually cheaper on Lenovo's website.

  • Any touch screen deals

  • Hi All,
What does this mean? you can't buy it with gift cards?

Exclusions. For the avoidance of doubt, this offer does not apply to items listed by the Seller in the following category: Gift Cards (184609).

    • Edit, > it means you can't use this offer to buy Gift Cards, but ebay Gift cards can be used to buy the items.
