    • … and the premium quality! Just ordered 2.

        how 30awg is premium?

      • +2

I wouldn't call 30AWG cables "premium" quality. Their premium cables (28AWG) are ridiculously expensive i.e. 1 x 1.5m for $19.95 (which you can find for $7.50 each or $18.90 for 3, inc delivery from Australia via Fastway couriers). Same cable as this is available on eBay, apparently in Australia, 2m HDMI v1.4 30AWG for $3.35 delivered (seller: gabbiegooks).

Interesting ebayer dude, their description of their own 30AWG cables is honest to a fault! To wit:

My advice is don't buy this cable or any other extremely cheap cable!!!…The postage and packaging for this cable accounts for more than two thirds of the $3.48 you are about to spend…you are actually only spending about $1.00 on the cable!…These cables are our PARC range (spell PARC backwards to find out why we call them this)…These 30AWG cables are dodgy, but they will work if you are down to your last dollar!

And along with some savvy advice, their spiel contains a little bit of misinformation too:

          Component video only gives 720i

LOL, I can't help but like the cut of their jib though!

That said, I've got a few Jamell 30AWG cables, as have quite a few friends & family members; not one of us has ever had a drama with them, I'd buy them again anytime! ;)

        • Could you please provide the URL?

        • The cables should work fine, but I don't think they are a bargain. Probably exactly the same as the 'PARC' ones with Jamell badges stuck on them. Just wanted to clarify that these are not premium cables, they are just some of the cheapest that will work. It's like stating a Daewoo or Kia is a premium car. They are the most basic car, should get you from A to B most of the time ;). Anyway I still think the (ebay user: ozgiftme5) deal with the 28AWG cables for around $6 each (for 3), or $7.50 each delivered are much better cables (being 28AWG, with colour connectors), otherwise just get the cheapest v1.4 you can … but each to their own.

        • Yep, it's a fair point about the labelling of these as "premium", which appears to have been rectified. I certainly agree on that score!

However, you have to admit that there's a lot of 'probably' in your line of argument. As far as I can see, there's no guarantee Jamell cables come from the same factory as the PARC ones, or use the same specifications. Or if in fact the PARC ones are as bad as the seller would have us believe…I've got to admit, it's a novel marketing strategy, so insidious it's almost 'bait & switch' by redirection! That's why you just can't make sweeping statements without some facts as justification. Do you have both and have you made a direct comparison?

I'll put it this way, would you rather have a well made 30AWG cable or a poorly made 28AWG one? To use your car analogy, I'd rather have a base model Toyota than a high spec'd Kia! (Sorry Kia owners!) :p

One of the great things about digital is that it either works or it doesn't. IME a decent quality 30AWG is fine for runs under 2m. The proof is kind of in the pudding here…I've thrown away a few bundled HDMI cables that look a lot like those ebay ones & just didn't work, but I'm yet to toss a Jamell one! ;)

        • One of the great things about digital is that it either works or it doesn't.

This isn't true in this and in most contexts. "Digital" implies discrete value being used to convey information and it's easier to error-correct it compared to analogue. If digital does work, most likely error-correction is responsible for it.

HDMI (like most digital transmissions) employ both low- and high-level error correction methods.

BTW, fully agree about "premium" label - unfortunately, most consumers aren't qualified to make any conclusions beyond the superficial - if it's shiny, it must be premium.

        • Yep Alex, many of us do know what 'digital' means; your aetiology is nice but unnecessary as we're simply discussing end user pragmatics here, not theories of data transmission.

The simple fact of the matter is, that for all intents and purposes in the digital environment IME if a cable is bad enough to overcome the ECC at either high or low level it will be blatantly obvious (read:useless); whereas a cable in an analogue application offering the same attenuation or other signal degradation might still work, but poorly…fact!

        • blatantly obvious (read:useless);

if you've witnessed effects of macroblocking you'd know that effects of erroneous (variable bit rate) digital transmission can be just as subtle as in analogue domain.

        • I wouldn't call macroblocking 'subtle' at all Alex, it stands out like the dog's proverbials! The differential diagnosis process for the cable in that application would not be rocket surgery! ;)

    • talbot, you are funny.

All HDMI cables in my house are from Jamell and the quality has been consistently high and postage, very fast.

  • +1

Good opportunity to upgrade from some crap cables I bought when I was down to my last dollar :)

    Cheers

  • Awesome deals, got the other 1.3 version cables and they have been fantastic perfect timing wanting to update to 1.4 for 3D.

    • +1

HDMI 1.3 cables will perform fine with 3D, HDMI 1.4 does not increase the bandwidth, so high speed 1.3 cables work fine for 3D etc.

The only feature HDMI adds to cables is Ethernet over HDMI, but I don't think any devices support this yet so there is no use for this feature.

  • just ordered 2

  • any specials on Ethernet cat6 cables?

    • Email us [email protected] with what you require and we will see what we can do.

      • Thanks, will do so.

  • WOW…at this price surely they're making a loss. Just the shipping would cost more

    • They always offer good deals to OZB. They're premium cables too.

  • These guys are great to deal with :)
Messed up my order and they helped me fix it up.

  • Got mine yesterday, thank you very much! Will be changing over my TV setup later today. :)
