I just found this site for tracking aliexpress price history, because I was going to say it was ~$550USD on launch. Kimovil also has a price history, which i think works much better than the former.
*correction, china version was $550 on launch, international was $485USD on launch.

I was interested in this phone, until I came to my senses and realised I don't play a tonne of games that would benefit from these specs. A lot of these phones are built for the mobile versions of warzone and pubg. I settled for a chinese iqoo neo 3, which had a much better camera, yet still ironically the same specs that I dont benefit from having. I've use 144hz twice. Connecting to two wifi connections at once is the most used and beneficial feature.

    Thanks for the post OP!

+1 Just because you mentioned Kimovil. My favourtie site.

  • rog phone 3 is better

    • +1

      also heaps more expensive?

      • +1

I keep referring to China phones as dumping. State supported cooperates and has a internal market of 1/5 the world's population.

ROG phone 3 is make by ASUS which need to make money by themselves, no government assistance and no big internal market so of course it is more expensive.

Many will argue that "Hay I am here for a bargain, as long as its cheap. That's all I care!"….. which is all ok, after all we are a free country. I hope those who willing to look beyond the dollar sign can see how bad this is and why we need to support other non China phone brands.

        • +2

How do you know Xiaomi is supported by China Gov and ASUS not?
Do you even know what mass production means?
Have you ever compared the quantity produced by Xiaomi and ASUS?
It's simple if you don't know the above, Xiaomi makes heaps more phones and other products with profit. That's why they spent more to get even bigger.
Finally, just compare the population of Mainland China and Taiwan. If you know a bit math.

          • -2

@Jamesx: 1) No company is allow to get that big in China without government have a hand in it. If you think I am wrong, prove you are right.

            2) Quality? yeah I have a Xiaomi sitting in my face, not buying another one again!!

Thank you just prove my point. So Taiwan and Korean does not have such a big domestic market. Than they have to sell their product at a higher price. China brands have that huge market locally allow them to sell products at a garbage margin and still make money while they semi-close this market for foreign company. Yet they dump their cheap product to oversea to capture foreign market. That is dumping. Obviously there is no AD investigation because China is the manufacturing hub of the world doesn't mean its right!

That's not how burden of proof works. You don't prove negatives.

It's to do with cost of manufacturing, not internal market size. Taiwan and Korea's products sell massively worldwide (including outside their country).

        • There's a huge amount of cognitive dissonance here at ozb when it comes to their cheap tech. It's clearly subsidised by their gov who has a strategy of elevating Chinese manufacturing. Other phone companies make their stuff in China yet it costs more, why? All those phone companies are in a tremendous amount of competition with each other, there are easily enough for it to be a properly competitive market yet China phones remains substantially cheaper.

https://www.uscc.gov/sites/default/files/Research/AnAssessme… is a good write up of just how strategic they are with their subsidies.

          • +2

@gakko: The reason US companies stuff costs more than chinese even when made in China is because the R&D is done in the US where people's wages are much, much higher.

            • @lostn: they want more money and charge higher .. . the rest are excuses. yank companies are historically the worlds biggest thieves.

          • -1

@gakko: @lostn Good point and if I assume everyone is paying The same amount for parts then how can they be so much cheaper? They cut their margin to wafer thin because they can sell so much within China. Which lead to…

they want more money and charge higher .. . the rest are excuses. yank companies are historically the worlds biggest thieves.

So western company are suppose to tolerate someone stealing their IP then sell at wafer thin margin to compete with these pirates who also get government assistance ? You may think its ok for you to score a bargain but this is hurting many tech company. Without these tech company, you wont have your 5G, OLED, ARM…..

Samsung and Apple is no angles and I put my feet up on that. When I comes to picking a side I will still pick them because the alternative is simply unbearable.

            • -2

@syswong: It's far worse than that. It's funneling money to a Government that tortures Uighers, smashes democracy, gives predatory loans to African nations, disappears citizens, and god knows what else. Buying made in China stuff is unavoidable to live a modern life but we don't have to give them everything.

    • I would have gone for rog phone 3 if it was same price or closer to the black shark 3 pro. Sadly the price difference is way too much.

      • dont recommend rog 3. used it. triggers are finnicky and it overheats pretty much. DEFINITELY get the nubia red magic 5s or the next version coming out soon if you are gonna get a gaming phone or the next back shark 4 (mech trigger buttons are a winner)

  • how does this compare to the samsung s20 FE?

    • If you want something that is an all rounder, S20 Fe is better.

Camera on this phone for example, is below average.

      • I don't really care about camera quality. More so for gaming and watching videos

        • Then you compared with a wrong phone. S20 Fe is not even a gaming phone.

          Compare with Rog Phone 3.

    Hi guys,

I am using a BlackShark 3 Pro at this very moment and it doesn't have an NFC which I didn't realise before purchasing it. And now I'm really annoyed that basic of phones half the price have NFC but this doesn't. No Tap&Pay, No Myki. The audio on the speakers are a bit sketchy sometimes it's loud sometimes it isn't (depending on the content).

I don't recommend this at all.

    • +1

Thank you.. finally, someone speaking the right language

    does this have nfc

    • It doesn't have NFC.
