[Switch] Wingspan $24 (Was $30) @ Nintendo eShop

60

I’d been wanting the actual physical board game for ages and just picked it up from the recent $60 deal and during that process I’d watched that many online tutorials etc that I came across a video review of the Switch version. After watching that and seeing the birds on the cards move…I knew I’d end up getting it. So I turned on my Switch this morning, looked it up and it was reduced by 20% so I grabbed it. I’m planning on using it to teach me how to play the game and learn the scoring system.

Relaxing Strategy Game About Birds for 1 to 5 players

The officially licensed digital adaptation of Wingspan, the winner of the prestigious 2019 Kennerspiel des Jahres board game award.

You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats. Each habitat focuses on a key aspect of the growth of your preserves.

In Wingspan up to 5 players compete to build up their nature preserves in a limited number of turns. Each beautiful bird that you add to your preserve makes you better at laying eggs, drawing cards, or gathering food. Many of the 170 unique birds have powers that echo real life: your hawks will hunt, your pelicans will fish, and your geese will form a flock.

Features
* Relaxing strategy card game where your goal is to discover and attract the best birds.
* Single player and multiplayer modes for up to five players.
* Based on the award winning, competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game.
* Hundreds of unique, animated birds with their real life sound recordings.
* Multiple ways to accumulate points with birds, bonus cards and end-of-round goals.

Good game, physical version is so expensive so i bought it on pc (bit cheaper than switch version)

    • Yes, sometimes the prices of the physical games are way overpriced for what you get. They give you a code to receive 30% off the steam version inside the box but with the switch being more portable I went with that. Do you get the expansions with the PC version?

      • Expansions havent come to pc yet, does the switch version include them?

        • I don’t think so, I’ve got it on the charger now and I’ll check when I turn it on. I thought I read in a comment online that someone asked if the expansions were coming to the switch like on the PC version or maybe it was the Steam or the tabletop version?

          • @PrinceDarebin: More likely the tabletop simulator version, which has pretty bad reviews it would seem

            • @Jenny Death: Yes I nearly purchased that one due to the price until I clicked on it and it looked awful and when they started talking about keyboard shortcuts…it lost me

Just checked online and no, the expansions are not on switch.

We've bought it on both PC and Switch.
Also have the physical, the european expansion, and the oceania expansion (go Kookaburras and Lyrebirds!).

The high price is due to StoneMeier being a small publisher, with only 12 games under their belt. I guess that's why costs are much higher than a lot of other games.

        • Yes, sorry I should have clarified in my above comment that the quality of the Wingspan game from all the reviews I’d read made it worth the purchase. I’ve started to follow Jamey Stegmaier from Stonemaier Games YouTube channel and Facebook page and he explains really well how much goes into getting a game onto a table and he’s so passionate about game mechanics and board games in general and that’s what made me really want to get Wingspan

How do you play the switch version local coop?
Do you past the switch around?

    • I’m not sure but I’m guessing…yes?
Might cause a bit of downtime while you pass it around. I purchased it knowing that it will be a solo game for me. If I have friends over I’d bring out the physical copy.

Yes you do have to pass the switch around.
      No online multiplayer yet either.

I have to say, I haven't played it when docked though. So I can't say if multiple controllers work in that mode.

The music on it is bloody relaxing.

      • Are you sure theres not online multiplayer? I have the option for online play on mine - although I haven't tried it yet

Very good game, in the physical edition anyhow. I’ve seen a stream of the digital version, and it’s pretty for sure. I wonder how straightforward the controls are.

    • I hadn’t even thought about the control system, which is stupid of me as I’m hopeless but they seemed to control it easily in the demo I watched…so what could possibly go wrong lol

    • +1

Controls are perfect imo. Extremely easy to navigate. This is a good port

  • Does this come with the expansions?

    • +1

No expansions yet. Probably will be DLC

Waiting for this to come out for iOS.
Better on iPad Pro screen than switch.
