    • +4

S20 FE 256GB was only offered at launch, and not/won't s be old any more. This is as per my query with Samsung online chat.

Thanks mate. That's really disappointing given that the extra ram and storage were well worth the additional cost

        • +1

          Totally agree.

        • Out of curiosity, how much was the cost (if you remember)?

          • +7

@PLA74: I ordered $1249 on Samsung website with trade-in and buds live bonus so only costed me $684 after traded my Note 9, also I ended sold Buds live for $180 so $500 out of pocket then signed up Telstra deal $59/month with $500 JB gc then sold for $450 so in the end cost me $50..lolzz…so much efforts

            • +1

              @BlackorRed: Wow, great work :)

  • Anyone know why the education store constantly has better deals the the government store?

    • +31

government job income > student part time income

      • So true lol

      • +5

government job income > student part time income

        Agreed!!
But also, it's a long term investment, Samsung wants parents to buy their kids Samsung products so the kids become familiar with the Samsung eco-system.
Then hopefully(for Samsung)when they're older they'll buy Samsung products and not Apple. So basically grooming them to become Samsung fanboys/girls!!

    How much S20 now?

    • I mean S20 or S21 not S20 FE

      • +4

        Stop please

    • The normal S20 models (except note) are no longer available. The S21 models are 20%off rrp

  • Upgrade from S10 to this or jump to S21? :P

    • +9

Neither is true upgrade unless you consider things like wireless dex important. Phones have plateaued a while back.

      • +1

        So keep the s8+?

        • +4

Replace the battery and you're good to go. Only upgrade if you want 5g or want to play mobile games for some reason.

          • +3

@Wonderfool: I spent $135 on a battery replacement and replacement back on an s8+ after having it 3.5 years. The battery life has been a huge improvement.

I am slightly jealous on the S20 when it comes to speed and camera, though. s8 lacking ultrawide and phone is generally sluggish.

But on the plus side, the fingerprint reader on s8+ is awesome and on the s20 I find it to be complete shit.

        • +2

I am wondering about the same. My S8 doesn't really have any issues and I don't see anything tempting in these phones. Lack of 3.5mm headphone is a negative for me.

Might give in if I find a cheap upgrade.

          • @jalwa: If you're upgrading, stay away from s9-10 gen. Battery is a bit problematic on those two.

        • +4

I upgraded from s8 to s21 just purely for performance and battery. It's significantly better.

        • +2

The S8 Subreddit lives on. Great phone.

        • +1

S8+ was so far ahead of its time that it's a great phone nearly 4 years later. For any current phone to be at S8s' level know, it would take some serious technological advancement to be made. S8+ with a custom AOSP ROM is still and incredibly powerful phone.

One of my phones is a Samsung Note 3 running Lineage OS, Android 10. This is a 6.5yr old phone! Running strong and feels like a current mid-range Android phone. It even has a FHD AMOLED Plus screen. The only thing that lets it down (a bit) is camera, being an old phone.

          • +1

@vrsac: My partner's got S8, and she was fine with everything except for the battery, until she saw my S20 FE 5G. Every time I take a pic, she is amazed by how good the camera is.

            • +1

@CodeXD: My wife was using the note8. The glass around the camera shattered (only a few Bucks to replace on eBay) but she was also complaining about the battery and mic/speaker not working unless speaker phone was activated. Decided to replace with s20 FE. Didn’t bother with 5G since we are using belong and Telstra hasn’t open up 5G networks

        • Another S8 user here, after seeing these comments Im considering doing a battery replacement on it! Its been solid but had it almost 4 years now! Been considering an upgrade this year, but dont want to give up my headphone jack haha. Maybe S20 FE if a steal price comes up!

      • Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. The S10 is fine except for the battery life being annoying sometimes.

        • Try replacing the batteries, it should help.

  • Looking to upgrade OnePlus 6 to either this or Oneplus 8T..hmm what to do..

    • This

    • Warranty wise, probably this?

    • +1

      8T Definitely.

  • Great price for Solid Spec phone.

  • Apologies for stupid question, but is that correct way to interpret this that people with access to the Samsung education store get an extra $50 off (i.e. paying only 749.2)?

    • +1

The $799 is the base edu store price. Then you have to sign up for the newsletter and then if you're lucky they actually send the $50 off code through within two days, and if not you chase them up on chat and they send it.

      • Mine took one solid week to get the $50, including chasing up several times, lol.

      • Yep I too had to follow up several times to get the $50 code. They eventually emailed it to me.

        • I believe the email for the codes only goes out once a week on mondays.

  • +1

Will the Government Portal price come down to match? currently $849, also would the $50 Govt credit code work on the Education Portal? as my son has already used his $50 there.

  • How do you get the $50 subscription code OP? Thanks for the post :)

    • +2

I was looking for the same thing and found a different post on it. Sign up here to get the $50 voucher:

      https://shop.samsung.com/au/sign-up

    • The subscription vouchers never work for my company EPP site. So don't be surprised if it's not working

      • Yeah, I contacted live chat who mentioned they'll follow up within 1 business day and send out manually. Let's see what happens

        • I registered weeks ago, still no voucher. Chased up 3 times but useless.

  • Bought this phone through the last education portal discount. What a bargain for that price.

    • Do you remember how long the promotion lasted for last time? Trying to decide whether I risk waiting for the extra $50 off or not.

      • lasted quite long, some items ran out of stock but they restocked eventually

  • Do different universities get different prices? I've never seen the price people mention here :(

    • +1

This is the Samsung education portal, it's not University specific

      • +2

yes I'm aware, but with my university and education login I don't get the price mentioned here. Hence I was asking whether universities need to register to some sort of program to get these discounted prices.

        • Ah okay, I am not sure about that.

I have tried accessing the portal using emails from two universities in VIC and the prices were the same…

  • Want my folks to have these phones but too big form factor for them :(

Can i use my nephew school email address? He's under 18, does it matter? or how do we get an edu email? Sorry if this faq

    • yes, you can. Need to have a samsung account and edu email.

      • It's been a month my student email ha been deactivated as I finished my studies, any other way I can get temp student email address to buy this one?

    • +2

During the sign up, u need to enter the age of the email address holder, it then states that you have to be over 18. So using a school email address maybe an issue.

Can anyone else whinhas done this confirm?

      • +2

yeah i used a school email address and it worked fine for a deal on the a71

        • Thanks for the update, much appreciated

        • Hey mate,
Do you mind sharing the screenshot of the receipt. I will go and try to price match with JB.
          Appreciate your help.

          Thanks
          D.

There's 25% off the S21+ range at my EPP

    128GB: $1,184.25
    256GB: $1,236.75

Whilst a good price, it's not worth the difference to the FE in my opinion

  • +1

Out of curiosity, what is the expiry on the $50 voucher once it gets generated? TOS says 30th June 2021 but I'm not sure if that is correct.

  • +7

Correction for OP, you need a .edu.au email address. It doesn't have to be eq.

Also, there are well documented touch screen issues with this device. Yes, some users are reporting the issue to be greatly reduced with the latest update. Some are even reporting the issue is complete gone when tested with the touch screen test app. However, some users are reporting the issue getting worse with the latest update, or even experiencing it for the first time when it wasn't an issue before. So buy with caution.

I've been keeping a really close eye on this device as a replacement for my S9, but the touchscreen issue really does seem to be due to low quality digitizers and will never be fully resolved, unless you are lucky. The Snapdragon processor in the 5G model is really, really attractive, but even with that I can't bring myself to pull the trigger due to the touchscreen problems.

    • +2

Lol. Downvoted for facts. Love it.

      • +1

        Have a +

    • +1

I got the 5G Snapdragon model when it came out. Fortunately I've never had any issues with strange touchscreen issues. Android 11 (Samsung UI 3.0) dropped the other day, so it's rocking the same OS as the new phones. Can't complain for the price, even if the camera isn't quite up to scratch compared with the dearer models.

      • +1

I also have the 256GB Snapdragon 5G model when it came out and have not experienced touchscreen issues.

    • The touchscreen thing is such a non-issue. In day to day use, you never use those finger patterns that they make you "test" with to prove there is a touch issue. In fact I would say maybe once a month I have an issue with a touch not issuing correctly and all I do is lock the phone and unlock it and it's fine again.

      • The issue is that it's not consistent across devices. There are plenty of people having much worse issues than you. So while it may ne a non-issue for you, it is a definite issue for others. Then there are people who have perfect digitizers…

    • Sitting on the fence with my S9. Mine has battery issues and a vertical crack from a small fall, I still can't justify it with the touchscreen info.

    • +1

Personal experience - I definitely had touchscreen issues on my 128gb FE 5g when I got it. Since updating it to Android 11 with One UI 3.0 which came out last week, it's been perfect. No touchscreen issues at all, and works perfectly fine with the touchscreen test app. YMMV

  • can you use an s-pen with these - are there cases with spen slots?

    • No. You can use a rubber tip stylus, but that's it, I believe.

  • I would suggest go for S21 @ 999.20.

at least 1 android upgrade guarantee.

    • +1

      Nein!

    • -5

No, the s21 is a waste, same for s21+. It's basically the s21 ultra or s20 FE 5G. I can understand why people buy the s21 vanilla but all you are buying is bragging rights that you own an s21, just one that is crippled. I'm sure, like in another thread, I'll get negged by vanilla s21 owners but Google and you'll see. The ultra is the s21 you need to buy or just got the s20 FE 5G.

      Edit: I'm not surprised :-)

      • +2

On top of another Android update, you also get a 1300nit (vs ~800nits on the FE 5G) display, Gorilla Glass Victus vs Gorilla Glass 3 found on the FE, stronger CPU & GPU performance despite it being an Exynos chip (relative to a 865), Super Steady video, Dual video calls & true Dual Sim support.

Obviously you didn't think that was worth $200 if you are really happy with your S20 FE 5G, but I bet there are people who do & the S21 relative to the FE 5G isn't just for "bragging rights on a crippled phone".

I think the S20 FE 5G is a great deal at $800, but there will also be people who are happy with a $600 iPhone SE 2020/$650 Pixel 4a 5G and don't want to pay $200 more for the advantages of the FE 5G.

        • +2

Yes, for the extra cost you get a smaller screen and cameras that are lacking in a flagship phone. You also don't get as card support.

Let's be honest. Most people won't care about the version of glass or CPU but the CPU difference is neglible. Also, again, let's be honest most people don't think they just buy and don't care about the guts, just the badge.

I'm the kind of person that goes for best value OR you go all in. Don't sell me a crippled phone with a high price tag just because it's the latest model. If your gonna (profanity) me, make sure I enjoy it.

          • @tessel: some people want a smaller flagship phone with no sd card slot. But want the extra future proof, a good battery and decent camera. It's a bit shallow to cast the series into "bragging rights on a crippled phone" category.

            • +1

@TheBean: But that's my point. The camera on the s21/+ is crippled. The s21/+ are crippled, the plus less so although costing much more for minimal improvement, definitely not worth the extra cost. The s21 ultra is the only version worth considering for me :-) Otherwise the s20 FE 5G is the pick. I know we all love each other here. Peace out my homies.

  • +5

Got me s20 Fe 5G and it be sexy.

    • Yep, I got me one too though hasn't arrived yet :) Plus a discounted Spigen case off Amazon.au to cover up the ugly pink I had to order because the ugly blue was out of stock haha

    • Hey mate,
Do you mind sharing the screenshot of the receipt. I will go and try to price match with JB.
      Appreciate your help.

      Thanks
      D.

  • +1

What makes it 120 dollars or 17% more expensive? Just for 5G?

    • +5

      4g = exynos
      5g = snapdragon

    • +2

If the Exynos 990 vs Snapdragon 865 benchmark numbers mean little to you, in real world tests the Exynos variant runs significantly hotter, thermal throttles more and gets worse battery life.

Still true even for the S21's Exynos 2100 vs Snapdragon 888 comparisons, just that Samsung made the gap smaller with the next gen.

  • +1

From memory, there are 2 different subscribe and save. One of the will give you a code to use on the normal Samsung website, whilst the other can only be used for EPP.

When I did this last year, I had to make sure I was logged onto the EPP and waited till there was a pop up asking me to subscribe.

EDIT: logged into my EPP account and looks like Samsung has combined both the subscribe and save into 1 form. Same link to t&c as https://shop.samsung.com/au/sign-up

  • How long does it take to get the $50 code?
    I signed up for it….?

    • It's supposed to be 24-48 hours (business days) but no-one I've heard of actually got it without chasing it up on chat

      • Thanks will have to do that tonight.
