      • Not true. Chat would not generate a code for you. They just ask you to email to the marketing team to chase up.

      • I wasn't able to get a voucher and tried a few times with chat.

        • Seems fairly poor, currently in chat with them. Hoping they can get me the details.

          • @treeman: Please let me know if chat really helped. Didn't work for me last week.

            • @WHL: They told me someone would contact me tonight via email.
Will hassle them tomorrow if no luck.

              • @treeman: And what happened next?

                • @WHL: Nothing yet… Emailed them now.

                  • +1

@treeman: Okay chatted to them on online chat again today.
                    Got it this afternoon.
I said I was very concerned I would miss out on phone due to selling out.
They said they would make sure it doesn't happen.

                    Phone just ordered!

                    • +1

@treeman: Thanks for your update! Let me try my 4th attempt and see …

                      • @WHL: Any luck?

                        • @treeman: Nope. Did an online chat, sent email again, still no promo code. Just another disappointment. May be Samsung doesn't want this customer who's not willing to pay this extra $50.

                          • @WHL: Bad luck!

                            Must have got lucky!

      • Took me 5 attempts to get it escalated over chat. Overall it took me 5 business days to receive the code after escalating it 3 times.

  • +2

Chased it up with chat twice still haven't got it.

    • I registered since the last deal. Still no voucher after chasing up 3 times in the past 3 weeks. Chat online is useless as they just ask you to email to their marketing team to chase up.

    • +1

      [email protected] helped me out

      • Emailed them 3 times. Just received confirmation emails saying will get back to me by 5 business days. Just wondering what is their business day? lol

        • +1

Their 5 days was unfortunately 10 days, in the real world

      • same. sent them an email yesterday and got the code today. Reason: "email provider has blocked emails from our promotional account". Used a gmail account

    • I found (for me - not sure if others experienced this) using gmail email did not work (tried with 2 different accounts). Used Microsoft email (outlook.com) and code came after around 2 hours.

      • I'm using yahoo mail. No code received.

it's a shame that the rest of the world gets the crappy exynos model.

    • the 5g snapdragon model is also available to the rest of the world…?

  • Any tempered glass which is compatible with fingerprint sensor recognition?

    • Whitestone Dome Glass, but they are quite costly but with patience installing it, it will be smexy!

      • Do you have a link to whitestone dome glass for S20 FE 5G? I havent been able to find one

I bought the Samsung S20 FE 5G last week using the same EDU discount. (I never could get the $50 email list sign up voucher and eventually gave up). It's a massive step up from my Pixel 3 in terms of performance and battery life. The 120MHz screen refresh rate looks amazing and I could update to Android 11 immediately. The FE came with a plastic screen protector out of the box which was pretty great. The charger in the box is only 15W and the device supports 25W super fast charging so I picked up a 25w charger but the charging speed only improved a little so it's probably not needed.

I've read about reports of ghost touches and touch screen issues and I've tried to replicate on my device and everything seems fine so either its been fixed by an uddate or I lucked out. I've also read about people complaining about battery life. While my new phone is still learning my usage patterns, I managed to get 5+hrs Screen on Time with default settings from a single charge which feels pretty impressive but I came from a pixel 3 that had awful battery.

    • Yeah. Bought mine pre-sale, last Oct, from if-ih bj, who ported the wrong no. over, so the $594(ETF) + $149(5G upgrade) was good. Now that ghosting was definitely a thing, but the hotfix updates, cured that, and hadn't really noticed it had gone away. Android 11 will have to wait until it fits my game publisher's roll-out, in a month. Overall a very good device, that I'd rate an 8.5/10. Ps: didn't notice the factory charger wasn't 2.4a…😎

Currently using TCL Plex (from the Jb Hi-Fi deal). Just over a year old. Tossing up whether to get this deal and sell it. Thoughts?

    Dislikes about TCL Plex:
-Almost impossible to find a case for it (free on that come in the box is poor quality and broke after a few months)
-Google Maps stops working at times
    -Messages app is very glitchy/slow
-General UI (switching between apps, launching apps, navigating app drawer, using FB Marketplace type of apps) randomly stutters sometimes

    • +1

I can't compare to the TCL Plex, but the Samsung S20 FE 5G seems very quick to load and swap between apps and the UI seems super smooth which is definitley helped by the 120MHz display.

    • I am still using TCL Plex

The on/off button on the case drop off but I can live with that.

Sometime Andriod Auto dropped and won't reconnect on my Subaru, not sure is the car or the phone but seems OK with other phone.

I using Outlook App, so far OK.

Randomly stutters, happened sometime with multi windows. Other than that it is still quite smooth.

Wondering whether they will release Android 11 on it.

      • Yeah same thing happened with me on the case, power power button fell off then both the volume up/down buttons. How is Google Maps for you (either using when connected via Android Auto or normally on phone)?

        • +1

Google Maps seem OK when not connected to car but I don't use that a lot.

Very frustrated Android auto dropped in the middle of driving.

    • Textra is a great alternative SMS app replacement.

      • Thanks Sleuth. Let me try this app!

The glitches I experience sometimes on my phone with the default SMS app are:
-Unable to send MMS to group messages (i.e. send an image as a text message to 2 people)
-SMS chat history for some conversations sometimes disappear (I have to relaunch app then it works)

        • Sounds frustrating.

          • @Sleuth: Yeah it happens occasionally but then I have a few workarounds such as using other messaging platforms apart from SMS/MMS etc.
So not huge issue but annoying sometimes.

  • Will OW pricematch? K-mart did on non-existing Big-W stock.
If not I will switch brands!

    • +1

You could try but I don't think OW will price match EDU stuff.

While EDU pricing is accessible to a lot of people, it is still not available to the general public which is a criteria of OW's price beat guarantee.

      • +1

Thanks I was wondering the same.

      • It is my credit card, Samsung will miss out if they do not like me!

  • Can someone please find me a good deal for Samsung note??

Black is out of stock for s20fe 5g :(

    • +1

S20 FE does not come in black…

      • Whatever that colour is, the only okay looking one in the middle of the selection on the website is out of stock, leaving 2 girl colours behind

      • Navy blue type of colour

      • -5

        Racist.

    • -1

Instead of getting a new phone, money probably better spent at Specsavers…

    • +1

Cloud Navy is back in stock!

      • the first person who didnt clown my comment and actually answered with a proper reply! Cheers Boss!

  • Quad Lock cases for the S20 FE are now shipping.

  • Does your Samsung account have to have the *.edu.au email attached to it or can you use any Samsung account? I'm wondering what the ramifications would be of purchasing a phone through this and the *.edu.au email that was used not longer existing, during your warranty.

    • You have to have the edu account, it’s education store. However, the 50 dollar discount can be received on any email

      • +1

I get that, but can you use an existing Samsung account and link the edu email or do you have to create a second one with this edu email?

        • I went ahead and bought one and found out the answer to this - you can use an existing Samsung account. Once you've logged in, it gets you to put in an edu email address, and sends it an email with a confirmation link. That's all you have to do with the edu account.

  • Any idea how long this promotion will last for?

  • I'm in the market for a phone now.. Not sure if I should go with this or do that Harvey norman s21 deal and pay 300 on top for thr plus any suggestions?

  • In the market for a new phone and am deciding between the S20 FE 5G or Pixel 5..
What are peoples thoughts on the pixel 5?

Through the research I've done seems like camera quality is better with the pixel, battery a bit better with the S20 FE, storage a bit better with S20 FE due to SD slot, responsiveness seems even with both being a bit better with some things than the others (opening apps, loading scrolling etc.)

    • +1

Pixel 5, small package with great battery life, if you don't use it and leave it on standby with AOD switched off, this phone will last for ages!

The only downside is the responsiveness, it sometimes stutters a bit but that's the trade off, mid-range phone with great battery life. And best of all, you will get the latest android version and patches every month for the duration of its support life.

      • Thanks. I've currently got a pixel 3 xl and I do like the pure android experience plus the camera in this thing is still wicked! I'll have to go have a side by side play with both of them in a store to see what my preference in hand is.

    • +2

S20FE: Cheaper, Bigger Screen, Better Battery, Better Performance, Expendable Storage

Pixel 5: Better Camera, Stock Android(If you prefer), Could be cheaper too if you can get a good deal

      • *expandable :)

      • Thanks! Nice and simple. Unfortunately no good deals going currently for the pixel 5.

      • Isn't there a recent thread about Pixel not covering for water damage even if the device wasn't immersed?

  • Hey guys,
I was tossing up between this phone and the A71.
Which one should i get ?
    Thank you.

    • +1

The A devices are in the same performance league as the premium S devices. It depends if performance and premium features are important to you or not?

      • Thanks Wombat. I will have to do more research and thinking now.

      • Sorry, that should be AREN'T in the same performance league…

  • Should I bother getting the 5g version of the FE when my area doesn't have 5g coverage?? Is the difference between the exynos and snapdragon chips so great that the price difference is justified, despite the fact that I won't utilise 5g???

    • Probably depends how important battery life is to you. The SD processor is more power efficient that the Exynos, so if you like to push your battery to it's limit, the SD version is a good choice. But unless you play games or something, the processing power in both devices is probably overkill.

  • $836 with two more GB of RAM (total 8GB) and dual SIM. Worth paying that little extra?
    https://au.etoren.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s20-fe-5g-dual…

    • +1

      No band 28. Avoid.

      • Found a cheaper one, $772, with band 28, 8GB RAM, dual SIM:
        https://au.etoren.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s20-fe-5g-dual…

Anyone bought from EToren before? Do we need to pay extra GST when we import?

        • +2

With a device like this that has widespread, well documented touch screen issues, i think you'd be made to buy a grey import. If you get one with a dodgy screen, and there's a fair chance, you've just flushed 800 bucks.

          • +2

@wombat81: Agreed, recommend to buy local especially as you get 2 years warranty from Samsung

  • When will the lavender s20fe 5g be in stock?anyone bought?

  • +3

Can confirm JB's will price match the Education store. Just bought a S20FE 128gb in Blue which the EDU store are out of stock.
Also used the 5% off voucher and paid $645.
Nice upgrade from a Samsung A5…

    • Awesome! I was thinking of going into the store tomorrow to try it out. Definitely getting on it now!

    • Did you have access to the education store to show the staff? How did you show them the edu store price?

    • Sounds like you were lucky enough to find a dumb sales person.

  • is it possible to price match online with JB? even if out of stock?

  • I bought this from Samsung store. Good thing is the store help transferred all my files over.

  • red in stock

  • The phones are out of stock. Any idea how long it nornally takes Samsung to re stock ?

    • +1

they float inbetween out of stock and in stock every two days or so. Most stock is back again today.

  • Samsung is Scamsung. I pre-ordered an S21Ultra in its online store. It breaks down within 10 days. It basically disconnects SIM card and drain battery 50% per hour by itself. I brought to the store, the staff says exchange and refund takes 3 weeks. It is a brand new phone and it only lasted 10 days. Any other brand gives you exchange on the spot!!! now it is still being repaired and i am waiting for 22 days now. I called Samsung E-commerce team and they said the warehouse still has not received the faulty phone after 22 days. i am speechless. Never buy Samsung.

    • -2

Pretty sure it's a semi common issue, your fault for not reading reviews to be honest. That's why I steered away from the S21's and went with the S20Fe.

      • +1

how is it his fault for not reading reviews on a pre-ordered phone? there wouldn't have been any technical reviews at time of order, just paid shills with feature rundowns.

one would expect at least some level of quality control and testing on a $1k+ phone (nearing $2k now) so major issues like this don't exist. even Apple in its heyday with "don't buy 1st gen of any Apple product" wasn't anywhere near as bad as whats described here.

samsung giving him the runaround is disgraceful, and i keep hearing how samsung just don't warranty their phones properly so i don't preorder them anymore.

and it's not like the S20FE doesn't have issues with its touchscreen (which could have hit you as well, or maybe you just don't notice it).

  • Should I get this or the Huawei P30 Pro on sale at eBay $792? Spec wise this is newer with 120Hz screen but I'm concerned about the screen issues, qc and poor Samsung after sales service.

    • Samsung? Poor pre-sales service too! I complained so many times, just trying to get the $50 subscription code. Still nothing after over a month.
Go for Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 5G instead. Slightly cheaper. Same Snapdragon 865, 8GB RAM with better camera. Bigger battery, faster charging, bigger screen (LCD 144Hz) but not AMOLED. No SD card slot and wireless charging though.
