Earth Choice Dishwasher Tablets 42pk $6 ($0.142/Tablet) (RRP $16.20) @ The Reject Shop

1180

First deal ever!

Stumble upon this great discount in my local Reject Shop, plenty of stocks.

Cheaper than the half price discount we had in Woolworths last November. Not so sure if it's a catalogue sale but it wasn't shown in their latest one. In any case, if it is catalogue sale, their current one runs until 21st Feb.

Careful. I bought these before, possibly from red dot, they were a different colour to the normal ones I think. They might have been old too. Not sure if it was because of age or grey import but they barely did anything.

      Thanks for the heads up.

As a ozbargainer I have been using them religiously for the past 2 years. YMMV, but the one that I got from my local store is definitely new stock, because only the newer and improved ones that came out late last year come with lemon scent and it looks exactly the same with the box I bought from woolies earlier. So I am pretty sure it is new.

Earth Choice also produce two types of dishwashing tablets a and b. Only the one without “all-in-one” is the better option and the highest ranked tablets on Choice.

Excellent first deal. I stocked up last year in November though, dang!

      • +1

The link to the Choice page provided has All in 1 on the top left of the box and appears to be the highest rating so I'm confused as to which this deal relates to.

        • +4

The ones on this deal aren’t “all in one”. I would just buy a pack and try. Personally I just use supermarket powder. 1kilo washes 50 times, it’s cheaper and less impact on the environment.

          • @fozzie: Oh really? You can just use laundry powder? I always assumed dishwasher stuff was different compositions to handle dirt and grime but to also be somewhat edible with the residue left over? Or less residue occurrences and possibly also more polish etc?

            • +1

@lonewolf: Think it needs to be specifically dishwashing powder, they don't sell much of it, usually hiding on bottom shelf.

Edit - it might be the same as laundry powder, idk, I just found stuff branded as dishwasher powder, was $4 for a bottle.

I watched a half hour video on how we are using our dishwashers wrong the other day (thanks random YT suggestions) so I went and found some so I can use the pre-wash compartment, which like most people I've just ignored assuming the tablet would do it all, seems to work well so far using both sections with the powder!

              • @Jdrizzle: How much powder do you put into the pre-wash and main wash compartment.

Also what rinse aid do you use?

                • +2

@JimB: 3/4ish fill for pre wash, and a cap full (which was also about 3/4 full) in main compartment.

I just use Coles rinse aid

              • @Jdrizzle: link to YT video pls? I'm intrigued :)
(preparing for an intensive 30min lesson about dishwashers lol)

Enjoy! he is in America and says what he is talking about might not apply outside of that region but it makes sense to me, and the powder was cheap enough to give it a bash for a few cycles and see if it works any better, sometimes my dishwasher does a terrible job, other times it's great. So far I haven't had a terrible load with the pre-wash section being used but it's only had a couple of runs so far… Time will tell!

              • @Jdrizzle: Dishwasher powder from supermarket brand

I was confused as well when I first started using them. But the tablets between the good and the bad one look very different. The not-so-good one had yellow center layer and doesn’t have a rhombus cutout.

Last year, Earth Choice improved the formula for the good one and make it scented and plastic free. The box itself is a little bit smaller and they don’t package all the tablets in a big plastic bag inside the box anymore rather just have all 42 lose inside.

          • +1

@johnathanl: Thanks..can confirm mine didn't have a cut out so was a crap one.

I dont remember the colouring but its possible there were even more differences. This was.. 2? years ago

      • Hmm, trusting information on the internet seems a bit dubious "Earth Choice also produce two types of dishwashing tablets". Maybe they did have 2 products, but no longer do?

The suppliers website Natures Organics only has this listed and no other tablets. I know Coles has the same box.

I've contacted Natures Organics to confirm what's going. Always best to contact the manufacturer to confirm about information and products.

        • Response from Natures Organics.

We only make these in our Earth Choice range. We took " All in 1" off the pack as it is fairly ‘old’ terminology that isn’t really used anymore. we will update the website to reflect this.

      • I've been using these tablets for years. From what I've noticed, the boxes that say "all in one" came out a year or two ago "replacing" the ones that don't say all in one so I was a little confused when I saw the Woolworth's half price deal for them a couple months back. I thought they were clearing out old stock. So it looks like they've gone back to old packaging

        /edit

I still have a box of the all in one and comparing the tablet to the ones from the half price Woolworth's deal they're identical. The only difference is the non all in one has all the tablets loose in the box. No yellow on either tablet.

Yeah watch out. I've been burnt before with reject shop morning fresh. Looked slightly different. Useless at washing dishes.

      Useless at washing dishes.

You'll get better with time mate =p

        Haha made me laugh!!

    • +1

It's called the Reject Shop for a reason, isn't it.

  • +13

Thanks OP, I’ll see if my local has any. Even if it doesn’t work out it’s still only $6, and I usually find other things to buy as well. It’s kind of like Bunnings: go in for a packet of screws, come out with some lights, toolbox, and a lawnmower (and completely forget the screws).

  • Perfect for zoomers to stock up on for cheap snack

Its not good atleast for my dishwasher.
Leaves a white sticky residue that kind of persists until manually scrubbed off.

    • Yeah. I've used the ones that are blue and white.
Complete rubbish. It leaves a film i manually wash of the babies plastic bottles.
I find most lower tier tablets to be crap.
Been meaning to try powder just to see how it compares.

      • Picked up fairy platinum plus 45pk at half price from woollies yesterday. It gives nice clean results always.

        • Did the same yesterday. Very pleased with the results this morning.
I did watch the above mentioned you tube video so think I will cut up my left over earth tabs and chuck half in for the first pre wash cycle.

Anyone have issues with excess suds in their dishwasher after using these?

    • +2

I was given a tip a while back to just snap the tablets in half. There's a bit of crumbling, but you can contain it in each dissolvable bag half.

I can't say I've done scientific testing on this method, but seems to not make a difference to the level of cleanliness whether it's half or full tablet in there

    • +1

If there is excess suds, there's too much detergent.

As TimR31 said, snap it in half (not sure you can snap the rinse aid in half without a knife).

Do you pre-rinse your dishes? If so, stop it, dishwashers need dishes to have a bit of oil to dissolve the detergent.

    • Yes but only on a short wash cycle

  • Cheap as Chips S.A stores are clearing Finish Powerball dishwashing tablets 2 X Mega Value Pack containing 110 tablets for $29 (.13 cents per tablet) . Our local Glenelg branch holding reasonable stock levels .

  • I pre rinse everything, my ‘dishwasher’ is a piece of shit, but everything is super clean/not oiley at the conclusion. It’s a aldi ‘sterling’ thing and that’s probably part of it. Might give these a whirl

Sweet got some of more of these, I prefer to use Earth Choice where I can!
