[NSW] Family Energy Rebate - up to $180 Credit on Next Energy Bill for Eligible Users @ NSW Government

360

This has been one of the best deals ever posted on OzB for our family. The NSW Govt gives a $180 credit every year on your next energy bill BUT only when you fill out the form on the link - for those living in NSW who currently receive the Family Tax Benefit. You must fill out a new form each year.

Grab your energy bill and one of your Centrelink letters and that's all you need to fill out the form.

"The Family Energy Rebate helps NSW family households with dependent children cover the costs of their energy bills.
If you receive your bill directly from your energy retailer and you meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply for the Family Energy Rebate online.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the NSW Family Energy Rebate in a given financial year, you must:

-be a NSW resident
-be the account holder of an energy retailer
-have been the recipient of the Family Tax Benefit (FTB) for the previous financial year and have had your entitlement to the FTB payments finalised by Centrelink.
-ensure the person in your household who's registered as the FTB recipient, lodges the application. The recipient is the person who receives correspondence on FTB from Services Australia."

Didn't realise you had to reapply every year, so thanks for the heads up OP. I wondered why this had not been added to our electricity account for the last couple of years.

    • No worries!! A bit annoying to remember each year but worth it for $180!

  • Targeted?

Two parents with disabilities, a child eligible for NDIS and yet because we don't qualify for FTB I get the privilege of paying taxes so that other people can get a $180 discount on their electricity. Go figure.

What's your combined family income, your answer is right there.

    • because I'm a nice guy I'll reply that you seem somewhat entitled. Somebody less nice might ask why they are paying tax so that your child can receive ndis funding.

  • will it still work if i have solar?

    • If you pay any type of electricity bill then it should be covered. It doesn't hurt to apply.

I assume that is for GST? It's an extra 10% on top of $180 so that's all I can think it might be.
