when jb first got this for sale it was going for $199 but ever since best price they selling at is $249

Problem I have with this is the headphones I think cant be used to plug directly into a headphone jack, you always have to run it through the wireless base. Be good if you had choice of running headphone to wireless base or plug it directly into a headphone jack via wired connection.

You lose base you pretty much got a useless headphone.

    • Good point bargrin. How about build and sound quality of these headphones? Would be good to get feedback from someone that has used this before. Thanks :o)

I've had these for around a year and a half now, bought them second hand for around $160. Sound quality is pretty good. Not as good as my Shure SCL5 in-ear headphones but still pretty good. Transmitter is small which is good. The fact that they only play wirelessly is annoying but if you charge them overnight it isn't a factor.
Build quality I find good, fairly sturdy. Sound quality is awesome for wireless headphones, on par or better than most wired ones I've used. Only complaint I first had when I got them is that the edge of the ear part squashed my ears which made prolonged use painful but over time they have gotten easier to wear.

Bargrin I don't think there is much of an issue with losing the base. I leave it plugged in to the mains when using it with my computer or TV and if you have it out-and-about it's a sizeable enough thing that you can't really miss it. Think around the size of a hockey puck.

If you have any specific questions about them I'll try and answer them as best as I can.

Thanks mskram for the review. Much appreciated :o)

  • $155 shipped from New Media

    • That's only for an extra pair of headphones without the base. Good find though.

      • Ahh, okay I see now. RS160 comes with the transmitter and HDR160 is just the pair of headphones by itself.

My friend buys his Sennheisers from dakmart:

great prices but shipping is the killer.

Prices on the other headphones are REALLY cheap on that Dakmart site, but I googled and found a lot of bad reviews about it. Bit scared to try the site out I think..

      • I guess my friend has been lucky. He's ordered twice from them and no issues. He once took 'bulk' orders amongst his friends and got wireless headsets for him and 3 others to split the postage. They've all been happy with their purchases.

I've never bought from them,so I can't vouch for them myself though. Still good to get opinions from others to get a balanced view.

Heads Up: Sometimes they have some interference with wireless modems

    • Thanks for the heads up Meteorite. That dashes my initial plan of where to put the base…. hmmm…..

      • No worries,

I have recently bought the RS120 model. I was planning to buy the 160 one at first, and the only reason I didn't was the interference with wireless systems. otherwise, RS160 has better sound quality.

        • Thanks for the info. I've never had an issue but rarely have them near a wireless modem (only at my girlfriend's place, not at home). I'll make sure not to put mine near them in future.

  • I bought the Sennheiser RS 120 from catch of the day a week before this deal was released. A little disappointed as these ones seem to be big step up in performance.

    • You can console yourself with the knowledge that your RS-120 is superior in at least these respects:

      • It has an integrated stand/charger/transmitter, which is more convenient for typical home use.
      • Power-on of the transmitter is automatic on detection of an audio signal (RS-160 requires holding down the transmitter's power button before each use, in addition to separately powering on the headphones).
      • Has a good old volume knob and power switch.
      • Doesn't use the overcrowded 2.4 GHz band.
      • There's no digital audio processing delay, which would be a problem for certain situations where you may want the audio source's speakers and the headphones in use at the same time (you'd get an echo effect).

My own RS-130s, which I wouldn't give up for RS-160s, also have the advantage of velour earpads which is a more comfy material than the leatherette used on Sennheiser's digital wireless models. So while the digital models do introduce their own their advantages, they're aren't all wine and roses.

  • Has anyone seen the RS 220 on sale yet?

  • The RS160 is on sale on COTD today too, it's a Small Fish…

Still waiting for mine. Spoke to my sister today and just found out that my brother in law got the RS160 recently and has been very happy with the build and sound quality :o)
