Switching nbn ISP FTTC - Disruption or Additional Setup Required?

I'm interested in switching my NBN ISP from TPG to Vodafone, it's for a investment property and I don't trust the tenants to do any setup for the switcheroo. It's a FTTC connection with the NBN modem and router provided by TPG. Just wondering if anybody has any experience of doing such a change, my intention is to leave it exactly as it is (I don't want the Vodafone provided modem) and hopefully the ISP change is just a background change with no disruption or additional setup required? As you can tell I don't really want to go to the investment property to set it up for COVID reasons.

If you must know why I want to bother with the change. I've got 2 mobile plans and my home internet with Vodafone currently, putting on an extra plan is going to get me into the 15% off all my plan territory.

  • BE aware that as the account is in your name you will be on the hook for:
    a) Any excess / additional charges if there are any download limits
    b) Any loss of NBN equipment when the tenant leaves and takes the equipment with them.
    c) Any damage to the NBN equipment
    d) Replace any of the NBN or supplied modems if the fail as it was put in by the landlord.
    e) Chase up any NBN issues as the tenant is not the one with the RSP conrtract

In other words do NOT do it. Give the tenants permission to install NBN, but not drill or make any changes to any walls or floors or ceilings to network the NBN equipment installed by NBN, unless explicitly approved by you.

TPG and Vodafone are the same company, but currently run as different divisions.

For FTTC setup have a look at the following NBN page:

For Vodafone the TPG routers WAN needs to be changed to IPoE. What were you given by TPG? TP-Link Archer VR1600v?

Vodafones modem automatically connects and has the bonus 4G failover if there is an NBN outage.

Yep archer vr1600v. I don't want to lock myself in a contract and I'm willing to forgo the 4g fail over. Ah, so tpg is pppoe Im tipping. That's going to be troublesome

TPG do use PPPoE for nbn FTTC.

          vlan tag = 2

Wait, why are you paying for the internet at your investment property? Just let the tenants choose whatever plan they want and let them pay it.

I wished my landlords paid for my internet when I was a tenant. Sad times :(

    • Hell, I wish I had a landlord that was committed to upgrading to FTTC!!
