Someone Kicked a Small Dent in My Car - Report to Cops?

Hi guys :D

I don't what I did to this guy but this guy confronted me about random things, nothing to do with the car while I was parked on the side of the road and I was standing outside my car in Liverpool and kicked my car door now it has a small dent in it. No, I am not parked illegally i.e blocking a driveway, parked in a disabled spot, taking up two spaces.

Maybe it's a case of mistaken identity maybe another 86 very similar to mine nearly hit him or honked at him while he was jaywalking because I never encountered this guy whilst driving through Liverpool CBD.

The guy seemed drunk, on drugs or has some mental issues this is why I didn't confront him initially when he kicked my door for my safety. He was also slurring his words and almost seemed incomprehensible

The question is should I report him to cops for damaging my car or just let It slide?I haven't checked dash cam yet but I think I got his face approaching my car but obviously dash cam films forward and back I don't think there is any footage of him kicking my car. It is too late to report to cops? Will cops do anything since there is no footage of him damaging my car?

Sorry for repeating myself if I am :D

Thanks :D

  • good luck, even if the cops get the guy, getting the money is a whole other challenge.
I had actually had a thief identified and caught - the whole lot and didnt see a cent. I guess your typical druggie isnt exactly loaded

    • Also, the government will not garnish someone's pension if they are convicted of a petty crime and caught. I found this out the hard way and wasted a day in court to convict someone to not see a cent.

You should report him to the cops for community safety reasons. He sounds unwell and untreated unwell people get sicker, and next time it will be someones head and not a car door. I would frame it more as you being worried his welfare than really being about the door (although you can claim on insurance if you make a police report). The local police may have a fair idea of who he is too, and he may need a psych review particularly given the content of what he was saying. He's a risk to the community right now so I'd report him.

    Why take 2 handicapped spots?

Are you handicapped? Are you picking someone who is?

Also handicapped spots are huge, how did you manage to misspark into 2?

  • lol "the guy seemed on drugs or drunk" in LIVERPOOL.. enough said
I went to liverpool once for a tafe course that was not available else where like a decade ago. so many bogans druggies and drunk homeless looking people. disgusting place.. now they are building high rise apartment buildings trying to change the place, you can polish a turd..

  • If surmise neighbour, then report via Police Web Portal, just for records.
If a small dent, look at possibly pulling out by melting tips of glue sticks to body work, then pulling back sharply.

  • You should report it to local police. Do you have any witnesses, or any other footage? Provide them the footage that you have.

I have an experience where my parked car was damaged in Liverpool. The car was a rental. A drunk man not only damaged mine, but others as well. He was captured on video by witnesses and they provided me this footage when I returned to my car.

Turns out the man was easily identified as he was arrested by police later on, for other reasons not far from my vehicle.

When I reported it to the car hire company they forced me to pay an excess immediately. Eventually, they agreed to refund my excess and chase up damages by the culprit as police provided them with all of his details.

  • Absolutely report it to the Police. It's not ok to walk around damaging other people's property regardless of their mental state.

Unfortunately, unless you have some sort of video footage there is unlikely much they will be able to do, but it can help paint a picture of an pattern of this sort of thing happening, and hopefully stop someone else from suffering the same fate.
