Similar upgrade offer to the one for Westpac American Express card holders but this time it's for regular Qantas Discovery card holders upgrading to the Ultimate card.

You need to spend $3000 on the card in the first 3 months after the upgrade to receive 60,000k points and $200 back on the annual card fee of $450. You also get the standard $450 Qantas credit/voucher to spend as well after the upgrade.

Sign in via the web account interface and if you have been targeted a banner should appear or an 'advert' for the offer will be present next to your recent transactions list.

Also the American Express Ultimate card again gives you 100,000 Qantas points if you directly sign up and spend $3000 in the first month but no cashback unlike the last 3rd party deal. You must not be a current card holder or have had a regular AmEx in the past 18 months to qualify for the direct sign up offer (DJ AmEx and Westpac AmEx cards are usually not counted as regular AmEx cards for these bonuses so should be fine but double check with them). Direct sign up offer ends on the 5th of April

      I use it fairly regularly so it definitely is not a dormant card. I don't remember seeing an email for it, simply logged into the web account interface and saw a banner pop up (as well as the 'advert' for the offer next to the recent transactions list)

    The difference is +40,000 points with the Qantas Money CC vs $50 in higher annual fees but $450 travel credit. I think personally, I would go to the Qantas Money CC unless you got travel plans coming up in the next 12-24 months to utilise the travel credit.

      Thanks mate. Appreciate your advice. I don't have any travel plans, also travel credits is valid only for 1 year, although I can book for next year, the validity is for 1 year. Plus due to covid there is so much uncertainty for travel. Anyways I have decided to go for Qantas as I have additional time for Amex. Meanwhile I will think If Amex can be added or not. have a great day:)

    I guess it comes down to the AmEx upgrade giving you a $450 qantas voucher but costing effectively $51 more for the annual fee (taking into account cashback) and giving 40,000 less points compared to the other deal (which gives 75 status credits as a bonus).

    If you got the offer on your discovery card you could potentially get both offers. The minimum spend would be large to get both at $7K total, but you could effectively pre-pay for essentials like groceries (buying discounted gift cards) and utilities in advance if you don't reach the $7K spending at the end of the first 3 months.

    Obviously this only makes sense if you have the means to easily pay off the full statement balance for each card on time for each billing cycle

      Thanks. Thats a good advice. I will initially apply for Master card, as tomorrow is the last day and for Amex 15 march is last day. Meanwhile, I will see if I have any expenses which I can prepay to accomodate Amex. I can easily do 4k but 7k would be little high in 3 months, as the transfers or cash advances are not considered.

    I think this offer is targeting those with co-branded card. Mine was Westpac and I have "upgraded" to the discovery with the $200 cash back.

    According to the T&C
    The $450 can only be used to buy Qantas flights (QF flight number) through the Amex Travel website.
    If you know a way to scam the system can you share the details?

      There was a special covid exception last year that allowed us to use it in the store.

      No word if they're going to repeat that this year since international travel is likely still a no go
