Been following the Ad700 for ages. Was always $90 but couldn't be shipped to Australia. Checked last week and saw it could be shipped, but then shat bricks when I saw that they jacked the price up to ~130$. It's dropped to $121 now, so it's a pretty good price

  • i want the anc7b but still can't be shipped to aus. :(

    • Just make sure you select Amazon as the store, it would be AUD 158.12 shipped for me

  • I bought these a couple months ago.. just RRP from headphonics.
it's a really comfortable set. they're open headphones which a lot of 'experts' seem to say they're great… but being 'open', people sitting next to you can probably hear what you're listening to.. and a downside for me is that bass is fairly weak for my liking.

    • Hence the ATH-A700's, the closed ear equivalent. Can't find them shipped from Amazon though?

    • laymans guide to open/closed headphones. Open - nothing blocking the drivers for the sound to bounce off, less muffled.
CLosed - Plastic cover over the drivers that sound bounces off creating a different, muffled sound. simple test with open headphones is putting your hands over the grills of the drivers to simulate closed headphones

How did you find out they ship to Australia? I want to know how to get alerts like this.

    • +1

i have found that when amazon is actual seller of the item, it can often be shipped to aus

    • For this one I've had it in my cart for ages, and I just check every now and then. Recently I think Amazon US is shipping alot more electronics to Australia, although they seem to bump the price up a bit to screw us Australians over :(

Most of the time when I'm just checking if something will ship to Australia I just use:

      http://www.shipstoaustralia.com.au/

They also give prices which is an extra bonus :D

  • At least you acknowledge that they were $90 before and could be bought for $100 including shipping.

    • That's why I reverted my neg. I originally negged it because they have been hovering around the 90-100 USD range for around the last year or so, I got my for 90 back in April. But the shipping to Aus is the new bit that worth posting.

  • It is a good headphone… I own one and love it.

I'm pretty sure I bought mine from PC Case Gear, about a year ago…for $90 too. It's fantastic!

  • Amazingly good headphones. Only thing is they are open so you can only use them at home in your room pretty much.

  • $120 is a great price for the AD700. Sold mine last year. Wish I never did. Might consider getting one again.
Can't justify paying $100+ extra for the AD900, but I do wish to know what it sounds like!

    • It sounds great and probably easy justifiable given the weak bass of the 700.

  • Go my pair of ATH-AD700 for $96 + $14 postage about a year ago. So comfortable.

    • I've got a set of ATH-A500's. Have had them for about 5 years now. Currently using them on my pc with a headphone amplifier. If you are plugging these straight into an audio source like your pc or music device without an amplifier you are missing out.

      • AD700 don't require an amp to sound good. The source should be upgraded e.g. sound card.

        • Interesting - My A500's definitely benefit from a bit more power and assumed it was the same for the AD700's. Well there is that. :D

  • For people with small noggins in size, these things are absolutely MASSIVE, but probably my favourite pair of headphones.

  • Thanks to OP.
I ended up buying ATH-A700 for $134 delivered as I prefer closed design.

    • the cheapest one I found from crazysalesz@AU$119.95, but wondering it's genuine or not.

      • They are not an authorised Audio-Technica dealer

        http://audio-technica.com.au/authorised-dealers/

      • Have you seen the shipping? 35 dollars.

      • They parallel import from authorised HK dealer. I got my AD1000 from them, sound genuine to me.

      • Don't believe there are any fakes floating around anyway. The head-pad design would be too expensive to reproduce to any sense of believability regardless of how popular they are.

  • Couldn't be shipped to Australia? I had no problems buying mine from Amazon last year and having them shipped directly to Aus. They must've only stopped shipping them to Australia sometime this year then.

I bought my AD700s on Oct 25, 2010 from Amazon for $86 + $35 shipping. All genuine, no problems.

Great headphones, good audio quality, bass is tight and responsive, good all-rounder for pretty much any music and gaming. If you like bass-rich headphones then these might not be the headset for you. My only complaint is the cord isn't detachable from the headset.

  • I just bought the AD700 + Asus Xonar DG combo for around $150AU shipped. That's about $120 for the headphones and $30 for the card. Sounds about right.

  • Is it really worth going through the trouble of Amazon when you have perfectly decent eBay sellers for less than $10 more:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700-Audiophi…

    • +4

Huh? Amazon is way less trouble than any random eBay dealer, even the best ones, and cheaper. And they ship faster, allow returns and even let you cancel orders if they're not shipped yet and only charge when the item ships.

      • My apologies. Just my own ignorance. I've seen so many threads that people have had issues with knowing what items they can order from Amazon that I've assumed they're a pain in the rear to deal with. Not sure how disputes are resolved on Amazon though.

        • This post is about buying direct from Amazon so you would be covered by their awesome customer service.
What sort of disputes were you thinking about?

        • Since you're dealing with Amazon and something is lost in the mail, I don't know how they would respond to that. Things like that have happened to me on eBay and Paypal would give me a full refund.

        • +1

If something is lost in the mail they send you another one. I have so many stories of awesome customer service from Amazon - I receive a discount coupon the day after placing an order and they agree to apply the discount to the order that has already been processed and charged, they shipped me a brand new replacement kindle to Australia for one that I bought through a US address and broke the screen due to my own fault.

        • Sounds like a great service, the only thing I wish they had was PayPal though.

        • +1

Use a credit card. If worse comes to worst just do a chargeback.
Honestly you have nothing to worry about, I would consider Amazon to be x100 more safe than eBay. PayPal buyer protection is good, but you are fully at their mercy. I have heard stories about sellers producing (fake) tracking numbers and the dispute was closed at their favour.
With Amazon, no matter what, they would sort you out.

EDIT: also don't forget post sale service. Amazon would see you through the whole warranty period. With an eBay buyer, who is going to assure you you will get any service at all?

        • But if something happens on Amazon, it's beyond Australian law as they are not based in Australia, whereas eBay and Paypal do have branches here, or am I incorrect. I really would like to be convinced about it, I haven't purchased on Amazon on several occasions because of my assumptions.

        • You are correct that Amazon is out of Australian law, but so what? what does that mean? would you actually sue them if something happened for $120?
What we are trying to say is that you are much safer buying from Amazon where you know the products are authentic, you get real warranty and great customer service.
Like I said before, you can always do a cash back, but seriously, I have never heard of someone who had an unresolved problem with Amazon.

        • Fair enough, I've used the office of fair trading for $100 items and they were resolved. That's all I was curious about. Despite that, would you have a clue where I can find a list claiming what products I can import from Amazon? It was quite strict previously, but now I see people making more purchases from them.

        • +1

Nah, the only way to know is to put the item in your shopping basket and proceed. If the item does not ship to Australia, it will stop you.

This is one of the reasons post such as this are useful: to let other OZB members know that a certain item is available for shipping to Australia.

        • one thing about buying from USA:

if you ever have to send a parcel back it will cost about $55 for 1kg (including the post 9-11 security surcharge of $9). amazon do sound like they have some great support though, maybe they cover this.

still, think I'll just get my ad700s from headphones.com.au for an extra 20 bucks or so.

      • +1

Actually there is this following site, but I never used it:
        http://www.shipstoaustralia.com.au/

  • amazon only had a few from one store that would ship to australia.
    all sold out now.

so I missed out as every other store says 'can't ship to that address'.

that's ok.. headphones.com.au have them for just a little bit more with aussie warranty/receipt and quicker postage.
Plus i get to give our government $15 in gst! yay fun

Plus they are a great shop and worth supporting! Plus 20 days to change your mind! woo hoo :-)
