I own one, it is OK for its price! Feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

My 5950x with Gigabyte x570 arous master 1.2 is rebooting randomly in idle or low loads. Now thinking swith to this M/B

      • Random boots on idle is either due to PSU or MB, my best bet is PSU. Check the 12 V rail.

        • Modern PSU's are all 12v rail. They're AC->DC12v and then the other voltages are all DC12v->DC.

If 12v is bad then everything is bad.

          • @drew442: Oh, then how about standby? 12 V again?
So when random restarts happen 'everything' might have gone wrong! Right?

            • +1

@Seraph2052: I'm not saying everything is 12v. After power factor correction and rectification you're left with high voltage DC which is converted to low voltage DC (being 12v). From here it's either used to supply 12v to the components that require 12v or converted again to 5v or 3.3v for the components that require those voltages.

I wasn't correcting you and saying it's not the PSU, it's just additional information on how the power supply works to help you to troubleshoot. My point is that it's unlikely that the 12v is bad and the 5/3.3 still good as these are powered by the 12v output. Links in a chain.

              Why did get so upset?

              • @drew442: Not upset, all good mate. Thanks for the clarification

        • Im using Fractal Design ION+ Platinum 860W PSU with 3900x then 5950x. No problem with 3900x, maybe I should try another PSU.

        • 5900x Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX with 2070 and 600w platinum PSU and I have these issues. I refunded 5900x and got a 5800x and still crashing so I suspected the UDIMM ECC VLP RAM, but ran memtest86 and literally 0 issues. I haven't even touched RAM just plugged into motherboard. Tried new and old BIOS all crashes. Then I borrowed friend's crappy 750 watt PSU and still the same black screening and restarting when spiking from idle. I didn't think it was motherboard because it seemed to work fine with a 3100 but I don't know anymore and I think I'll return that next if trying out different RAM still leads to crashes.

          It's not just me:

          • @Bacons: Check my comment below regarding PCIE 4.0. That was the root of all my weird problems with this board.

            • @Seraph2052: ah ok. I've always used my GPU PCIe @ 3.0 because I'm using a riser cable anyways.

      • I also have random reboots on my 5900x B550i Aorus Pro AX. My very first boot into windows it crashed straight away. Are you facing the issue where if you let the PC idle then suddenly jump the usage it suddenly black screens and reboots?

      • I have a similar Asus MB (crosshair viii) and 5950x and had similar problems. I spent a lot time researching and discovered that there’s a common known issue with the automatic performance optimisation features of the MB. Regarding this particular issue, it appears that it was being too aggressive with the CPU voltages. The fix was to set a negative offset to the CPU voltage to counter this. In my case, I think I set mine to something like -0.06V, other people in forums were suggesting up to -0.1V and even beyond for the offset. I would definitely recommend trying this before you replace your MB.

    • Appreciate your time mate. It definitely seems like a fair price for the board. However considering the msi mag x570 tomahawk is $50-$100 cheaper still on sale, do you think this is still worth it? From some VRM testing i've seen online, it seems like the msi mag x50 tomahawk is even better in that department. What does this board offer that the tomahawk doesn't?

      • Well, I've got mine for only $225 and it was OK for that price! For full price, I am hesitant to recommend this over Tomahawk to be honest. Regarding VRM, this one is definitely better (but both are overkill to begin with!): https://linustechtips.com/topic/1046357-motherboard-tier-lis…

        • In what universe did you manage to get this board for $225?! That's incredible!

      • +2

The MSI board uses intersil VRM components in a doubler design. The ASUS board uses IR without doublers. The problem with doublers is voltage accuracy. The intersil doubler they're using maxes out at 200hz i think. The IR parts on the ASUS board can switch at up to 1Mhz, it won't be switching this fast though.

This will end up in higher overclocks on the ASUS board because of better voltage stability / vdroop. This doesn't matter to most people though.

      • this board is more about extra feature not really about more performance:

        • 2.5G Lan
        • Postcode
        • 3 x16 slots with bifurcation on the top 2 x16 slots
        • no fan on chipset
        • more IOs on the back
        • +2
        • Thanks for the response. Few question regarding those features. Don't both the tomahawk and this have 2.5Gb Lan. From what I can see this one just has an additional 1Gb port.

The tomahawk also seems to have bluetooth 5.1 vs bluetooth 5.0. (No big deal tbh)

VRM wise they both seem like a pretty damn good non-issue.

So all I can see for extra features is the extra pci-e slot and the extra USB and SATA IO's.

Both also have the LED postcode feature?

          • +1

@AldoRaine: oops another one i got wrong, yeah the tomahawk does have 2.5g lan

this one has the post code letter readout whereas the tomahawk only has 4 led lights

    • Did you ever get your 2.5 Gbps Intel Gigabit LAN port to work? For some reason, mine doesn't.

      • Yep, have been using it from day 1. What is wrong with yours?

        • When I plug my ethernet into it, nothing happens. It doesn't detect. When I plug my ethernet cable to the port next to it (the Intel broadband adapter), it works, but maxes out at about 100mbps which kinda sucks. I'm surprised you've had no issues.

Before I forget, one thing I really hate about this is the PCIE latches; they are cheap and nasty. The PCIE slots are positioned so tightly against the NB shroud that there is almost no way you can release the latch without breaking it! I broke the first one on day 1!

      • Yeah i'll second this. I have the CH8 Hero and its got the same pci-e latch and the one on the top slot is quite close to the nvme shroud/cover. I used a chopstick with a pointy end to push down and 'swing' out the latch in order to remove my GPU, so stubby fingers, be aware

  • I paid $489 in 2019 and am still happy with the board. It's a good buy at this price.

  • I have one of these boards paired with a 5900x. Make sure to grab a usb stick and load latest firmware on it. Use the offline bios flash to upgrade the motherboard if your computer ain't posting after building it

  • This is a better price. I paid $499 early last year. It's been good, but not amazing.

  • Paid $445 for this exact same motherboard two weeks ago. No regrets as it's a pretty good mobo with lots of features.

  • Could anyone recommend this over the TUF X570-Pro? I'm juggling between the 2 given $90 difference.

    • This has a better audio codec, if that matters to you

  • I have this motherboard, had it since August 2019. It has been solid. the only thing i want to mention and it may be just me but i have had a lot of weird issue surrounding different BIOS versions. I think it all comes down to my RAM with the BIOS though. I'm using Corsair 8GBx4 3600Mhz cl19. Now when using the newest BIOS available with DOCP enabled in BIOS my PC sometimes fails to post on startup, and only on startup, no crashing in games or anything. I've tried almost all versions of BIOS and pretty much all of them do it in some way or another. (Yes I have tested my memory, they all pass) the only BIOS i have found that hasn't is v1408 which is a real old version which i don't want to use as the new ones offer better performance etc. Its been bugging me for a while but other than that the motherboard has been solid.

    • One thing which was giving me headaches (similar to RAM issues/crashes) was PCIE4.0. I set the GPU PCIE slots at 3.0 and now everything is stable.

  • Decent IOMMU groupings, at least on a previous bios, not sure on the later ones, there have been a few updates.

There's no fan on this one, which is nice.
