Queenslanders will be paid to take a holiday, thanks to an exciting tourism voucher scheme by the State Government.

The Premier has confirmed a total of 15,000 vouchers worth $200 will be offered in a bid to encourage Queenslanders to explore the state’s far north and boost tourism.

“15,000 travel vouchers worth up to $200 are up for grabs for Queenslanders to discover Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

How it works:
Go to the link on Monday 8th March from 12pm (AEST) to apply for a Cairns Holiday Dollars voucher.

If you're lucky enough to secure one of the vouchers, you'll receive a text message and an email with your Cairns Holiday Dollars voucher to redeem at participating tourism operators.

Book your adventure in Queensland's incredible tropical north!

*Voucher eligibility criteria: Must be a QLD resident | Must be over 18 | Can only be used at participating operators | Can only be used with one participating operator | One voucher per person.

This is extremely misleading. It's actually 50% off select operators up to a limit of $200

When you book an eligible tourism experience, the voucher will cover 50 per cent of the cost, up to a maximum value of $200.

Also it's basically a competition as to whether you'll get it or not

The process to distribute the Cairns Holiday Dollars vouchers is a Trade Promotion Lottery

    • Does an experience include staying at a hotel?

Or is it just for activities

      • Participating operators need to "offer a deal on a tour or attraction."

I guess tour could include multi-day tours with accommodation at a hotel? Maybe there will be some dive boat trips, which do provide "accommodation", but on a boat rather than a hotel.

    • It is but 400 won't get you much so it's easy to achieve.

      OP please fix!

I wonder how loose the residency requirement is? I've got a trip to Cairns planned for June but not from QLD.

T&C's say you need to provide drivers license or proof of age card number. They'd likely use those details to verify registered address.

If you don't have that, you're fresh out of luck.

      • drat. Might have gotten me to do something I wouldn't have ordinarily paid for without the voucher.

I get it's aimed at QLDers to travel, but if the aim was to get money flowing to FNQ, they should have opened this up to everyone. It's different to the eat local vouchers, which should be limited to locals, encouraging them to get out to restaurants (ie the NSW and ACT vouchers).

  • A little OT , but what's happening with NSW's 4x $25 promo? Seems to be perpetually pushed back.

  • I literally just got back from Cairns 2 days ago…

  • This is great! We have these types of deals at the local bowls club where you win a whole tray of meat!

QLD govt useless! This is a wasted initiative that won't make much of a difference to FNQ.
There are so many better ways to spend our collective $$$ to help the tourism sector up here. Current govt fail again in my book but it will look good in the news tonight.

If Qld stop closing their borders in a knee jerk reaction, they wouldn't need to entice their residents with a voucher.
