  • Can anyone confirm if this cashback applies to major hotel chain bookings such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Accor Hotels and IHG?

    • Yes

    • yes i booked with hilton @ gold coast - @2k stay - got over $200 back

      • Awesome thanks.

A hot tip, I will often use booking.com to find the hotel I want to stay at, however before booking, it's worthwhile going to the page of the hotel itself and finding if there's a better offer available directly - more often than not, there is. You sometimes need to sign up to become a free member, but it will often unlock cheaper prices or free upgrades (breakfast inclusion or wifi etc).

    • Some hotels guarantee to match any other online rate you find. Definitely worth checking with them after you shop around.

    • Wait are you getting the upgrades by booking with the hotel directly?

      • Yes - use booking.com to find the hotel and price, but then go direct to that hotels website (usually need to google it as booking com won't link directly), create an account and book direct

It's much easier to do things like change booking, extend an extra day etc if you do it this way too as it's through the hotel directly.

        • But doesn’t booking have price match and one night free after 10 nights? I find that you can get the upgrades also by just calling the hotel directly and getting them to add in your loyalty number.

          • @nightelves: I don't know, I would guess and say that their price match policy must be like most others and available to everybody, not just "members" but I'm guessing here.

Calling the hotel directly is a good idea too. I can try that next time.

        • I just uploaded a screenshot of the booking confirmation of my last hotel stay.

Free internet, free late checkout, free early checkin for being a member.

I find these things can make a trip a lot more pleasant.

breakkie is usually $39 - you get more then that with 12% off

      • -1

Perhaps, and really is a $39 hotel breakie going to be better than a $25 brekkie from a a good cafe? Depends on where you are I suppose, but in any major city in Australia - unlikely.

        • There is nothing better then buffet breakfast at the hotel you are staying 😂

    • Orrr…I also like calling, mentioning the price on X page , sometimes they say "sorry, nope" , but sometimes they say they can "match it" or rarely, lower.

I just don't understand the disrespect they offer by "Matching" , they're paying fees one way or another to the booking website, can't they cut me some slack for offering them my business directly?
      ugh.

      lol

Their contracts with the booking websites prohibit them from offering a lower price through other sales channels. If they get caught and get banned from the booking websites then its game over and they might as well shut down their hotels.

        • oh.
well comeon i aint gonna tell :(
          Lol

          Interesting.

        • That is somewhat true, but they get around it by offering it only as "exclusive offers to members" hence why you should sign up and see.

I've made a dozen bookings this way.

          Regardless, it's worth checking.

    • Do you mind giving an example. I find it extremely rare for the hotel's own website to have a cheaper rate, especially when you are trying to beat 12% off at booking.com.

      • Argh come on, I'm not going to search for it now as I'm not looking. But the last hotel was Oaks Melbourne on Lonsdale on December 17 2020 (yes I travelled during the pandemic). From memory I got a cheaper price only.

Yes, as someone mentioned it may not beat the 12% off but worth looking.

great advise, and also check prices through booking.com app even though there will be no cashback

  • i didnt really believe it but you have just saved me $23 lol thanks was cheaper directly indeed

    • Would you mind giving the hotel details?

      • hi wifey is that you ? its a top secret trip with my secret lover, id rather not :D

  • this ends in 8 hours i think.

i booked before i saw this deal. you can cancel up until the day and I chose not to pay until I get there. Cashrewards tracked.

can't really lose even if the own website is cheaper after the cashback … just cancel.

    • Wait cashrewards tracked for non payment bookings?

      • Yes

      • yeah but it won't get paid until after you stay … says something like 90 days after. But I did a Vietnam booking months in advance, paid when I got there, and got the cashback after that so it works.

I see a rise in price, when I clicked through Cashreward. Via Cashreward hotel price was 158, without Cashreward it was 139. So be watchful.

  • Back to 4% now

  • I know it's not CashRewards, I'm looking at using ShopBack's 12% right now… But as stated above, what a crock if CR does it too!!!
The place I'm looking at near Adelaide for 4 nights is $782 direct on Booking.com, and jumps to $842 going through ShopBack!
edit: And I just checked, CR is the same $842 using Booking.com.

    • yes, sometime they do go up with CR but its still a saving, when I booked my hotel the price was the same though - same price on Booking.com and same with CR so getting extra 12% worked great
