You've gotta be kidding, they are way better mate. I have 5 vornados, all different types. Would not go back to normal cheap fans. I use them to dry shower after use, and to blow air con around the house between rooms that don't have air con unit. Very effective. Much quieter and blows way more air than convertional fans. I'm a fan.

      • rival81 brilliant idea TY. No fan in our bathroom downstairs. Concrete slab above it and no fan to the outside world.

Mate these will dry your shower after use in no time. Shower routine:

          1. Squeegee down all surfaces of shower and channel the water into the drain
          2. Use a Chamois to dry the shower more
          3. Put fan in the shower on high

Should be dry in 5 minutes :) No mould, no more re-siliconing every 12 months.

          • @rival81: Minus point 2, do these things still achieve the same end result?

            • @inamberclad: Yeh pretty much, chamois is optional but it gets into the cracks better and lets the fan dry it out a bit quicker.

          • +1

@rival81: That sounds like a hell of a lot more work than "re-siliconing every 12 months", not that I know anyone that does that either.

I can't imagine buying an almost $200 fan and using it for this, but each to their own I guess.

        • Also get some of those moisture absorbers for the room.

Absolutely not. It's not a pedestal fan. You point it at a room corner and the vortex distributes air around the entire room. It's noisy at high levels (fine at level 1 or 2) but certainly not 'like any regular fan'. No way. Heavily reduced my reliance on Air Con.

I have a woolies pedestal fan in my home office and it sucks.
Will report back after Sunday with my opinion on the Vornado.
I've heard good things on OzB about them, that's why I grabbed it

      • If you turn it around it blows!

    • The fan is amazing, has completely changed the way the house feels, i now get much better airflow in rooms the fan isn't in.
      Stoked with the purchase

I use this when riding indoors on Zwift - Great fan.

For those wondering which one to get, here's a quick guide from me…. i have all of these models and they're each suited to different situations:

533DC : Perfect for bedroom to run at night time, VERY quiet fan especially at low speeds and DC model have variable speed knob which is awesome.

633DC : As above but larger, probably overkill for a bedroom but great for any lounge room etc.

660 : Been around for ages, quite a large heavy fan but blows a ton of air, good for large areas.

533 : Same size as the 533DC but much noisier and only three speeds to choose from. Older model, but quite cheap compared to the DC model so you save some $$.

    • so is 660 the most powerful one?
      would you recommend this?

      • It depends on the situation. I would go for the 633DC if you can afford it over the 660. They both blow a similar amount of air. The DC one is quieter, much lighter and can be pointed down more.

      • +1

Will just add that the 633DC is quieter than the 533DC for a given amount of airflow, as well as moving more air at highest speed (though not as huge a difference as one migth expect, as I think the smaller one has a higher top RPM).

I also recommend the DC models over the regular ones, though I'd wait for a deal if you can. Summer's over.

  • I have the White 660.

It is a good inbetween for warm but not too hot days.

I have the fan on the inside next to the fly screen door, it pushes the slightly cooler air around the room very well.

  • Also, note that the DC models can be pointed down towards the floor about 20 degrees more than the old AC models. That's something they don't mention in any of the marketing. It makes the DC models more suited to a bedroom when you have it up on top of a dresser and want to point it at your bed. The old AC models can't be pointed down, which is pretty annoying as you have to shove something under the back of the fan to point it down more.

  • is it with remote or without remote?

  • Still waiting for another DC deal :(

  • Hmmm. I have an open plan house. Looks great, but extremely impractical for heating and cooling.

At one point I have a 7 or 8 metre height from the floor to the ceiling.

Hot air rises, so rooms upstairs cook in summer … and in winter, I can run the A/C yet my study down stairs remains cold. Maybe one of these would compliment the A/C.

Hmmm … I should have bought it at CostCo on their non-member day last weekend. It was only $170

    • I have similar setup with first floor mastersuite, so ten years ago I put a couple of whirly bird extractors through the roof on upper level. Cost about $300 at the time (probably OzB offer :-)!!) and made a huge difference. And of course there's no operating cost. PS for best outcome you also need upstairs rooms to be vented to ceiling void. We already had that in the ensuite.

    • What am I missing
      The link still shows 170bux?

Had just ordered this via JB HiFi for 207.. JB were nice enough to price match this (to Amazon but not Costco) and refund me the difference .
