        since when?

  • +3

Spend another $30 and get a Poco M3…

    • Where?

      • Banggood seems to be offering around the price suggested by b-radicool.

        • +3

Correct- I checked on banggood last night and it was $177.

If you look at the comparisons I think you’ll find the M3 is significantly better.

Antutu benchmarking is 185 (M3) vs 105 (G8 Power Lite) - nearly twice as much! Battery life and screen resolution are also better.

          See comparison here: https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/motorola-moto-g8-power-li…

Of course you need to weigh up the issue of buying from overseas.

          • @b-radicool: When I went to buy that one it changed to $257 at checkout lol. Any idea why?

  • +4

No surprises that Amazon have followed the price

  • Seems like a good cheap phone but be aware of the screen resolution… HD 720 only…

    • +1

I am sure a 10 yo won't complain about that

  • Anyone know if it has dual sim and extra micro sd card slot?

    • +8

Phone has Dual SIM - 2 Nano SIMs + 1 MicroSD (dedicated slot)

  • I have the M7 and it is a great phone, Love the battery life. I assume M8 is even better.

  • +1

Is this phone better than samsung A20?

    • +1

      Err yes

      • Bought this G8 to replace my sons A20 (dropped multiple times and screen is a mosaic ). It came with a case which was a bonus .
Haven't used it yet it's on charge and my son will go bananas if I remove the screen plastic .

COPIED MY REPLY FROM ANOTHER G8 POWER THREAD

For anyone wondering about the real-life performance of this phone:

    Battery:
Usage: 5,000MAH should be absolutely amazing. 3 days worth of claims usage should translate to ~2 days of usage

Charging: 10w charging, paired with a battery this huge = SLOW CHARGING SPEED
For $125, this should be expected. Prepare to charge overnight :)

    Performance:
As others on this thread have stated, performance isn't the 'best', however, I must clarify this commonly mistaken issue. The Helio P35 chip found on this phone is more than sufficient for any basic/medium usage, and will even be able to play light/medium gaming. The close to stock Android experience means less bloatware, in turn providing some decent performance. If you make sure not to overload the phone with background processes and running services, the 4GB RAM and decently powered octa-core processor will surprise you

    Display:
This is one area where the phone shines. For $125, this phone still sports a modern, small bezel design, paired with a 720P screen. 720P may seem like an issue here, but this is actually incorrect. While the resolution is 'lower' than you'd wish for, the viewing angles and colours are actually fairly good. Decent colours, viewing angles, and 269PPI on a $125 phone is definitely a highlight of this phone.

    Camera
Don't let the triple-lens fool you two of these lenses are for 'macro' and 'depth' functions, two features that aren't used very often on a phone. The main lens is a 16MP shooter, which has fairly low-performance video quality (1080P 30FPS). Don't expect much from this camera :(

    Software
As stated previously, the software on this phone is a fairly stock Android 9 version, meaning the phone has minimised bloatware. Android 9 is fairly old, however, at the end of the day, this version of Android will do the job, and for most, won't even be an issue :)

    Design
Personally, I quite like the blue gradient on the back of the phone… This would really be a personal preference tho. The design placement of the speaker at the back of the phone could mean that you might accidently muffle the sound while watching videos. Additionally, this speaker is a fairly loud and quite average sounding. Overall, the design doesn't reflect the cost of this phone

      Thank you for that!

      • You're welcome :)

This is a fab review! Very informative and detailed. Do you write/blog Smartphone Reviews? Could you share the link for your blog, or reviews of other phones?

      • +2

Aww thank you so much!! I've already been interested in the tech industry, but I don't write/blog Smartphone Reviews :)

Honestly, this review was a result of my studying procrastination lol. I was checking out deals on OzBargain and came across this phone which surprised me due to its cheap price. I did a bit of research on it (feeling guilty since I was supposed to study lol), and then ended up writing this off the top of my head :)

^^ Glad to see my procrastination came to use

If you'd like my verdict on a specific phone, I could give you a brief overview if you'd like

        • +2

          Sure, thanks mate!
          Oppo AX5s ($45) v/s Samsung A30 ($60) in this crazy deal
While it seems a no-brainier that Samsung A30 is a better choice, what are your thoughts on Oppo AX5s for $45? Ignore the 'Locked to Optus' part as these may be unlocked for free by Live Chat, given that the phones are over a year old.

I've also noted that this Optus-modified Oppo AX5s is a 3GB RAM version, with 3G Band 850 MHz removed, and also the Dual SIM Capability removed. The official Optus link is this

          • @djoz: Still available? This was from Feb..

          • +4

@djoz: While I won't be able to guarantee that you'll be able to purchase these phones as part of this deal, I'll still provide my thoughts on these two phones.

            Battery:
When it comes to battery life, both phones will easily last you a day. Battery shouldn't be something you should worry about here, as the implementation of 4000mAH+ batteries could even allow 2-3 days worth of use. However, the battery on the Oppo AX5s comes out on top, with a slightly bigger battery capacity (4230mAH VS 4000mAH) and a lower resolution screen, allowing for even more efficient battery performance. Additionally, the chipset on the Oppo is slightly more efficient (12nm vs 14nm)

            Winner: Oppo AX5s

            Performance:
Both phones should have almost identical performance, as they both have the same amount of RAM (3GB). In graphical performance, the A30 is slightly more powerful, however, the AX5s has an efficiency advantage. However, when considering the price range here, the win would have to go to the AX5s

            Winner: Oppo AX5s

            Display:
This is where things change… The Galaxy A30 has a bigger screen than the AX5s, which also happens to be much bigger in terms of resolution. The AX5s has the usual 'budget' 720P panel, however, the A30 has a much better 1080P panel. A clear win to the A30 here.

            Winner: Galaxy A30

            Camera:
Both phones have cameras with the quality you'd expect from a budget phone. None of these phones are going to blow you away with quality :) Both phones record at a maximum of 1080P 30FPS, however the A30 overall comes out on top due to its much more high-quality camera. The A30 has a higher MP count (16MP vs 13MP), better aperture (F1.7 VS 2.2), and the inclusion of a wide angle camera (Compared to the useless depth sensor on the AX5s). Additionally, the front camera on the A30 is significantly better than the AX5s

            Winner: Galaxy A30

            Software:
This is one that would rely on personal preference, however, I'm going to take a factual approach on this. It's quite well-known that Samsung phones are some of the most used, and most loved phones in the smartphone industry. Their software, Samsung OneUI, is used on the best of their phones (e.g. Galaxy S21 series). Here on the A30, you receive the full Samsung experience, with OneUI 2.0 support on the phone, with a scheduled update for OneUI 3.0 later down the line this year. Overall, OneUI has had a serious amount of engineering, and would come out on top compared to the software you'd receive on the AX5s

            Winner: Galaxy A30

            Design:
Design is always an area where people have their own personal preferences, but personally, I like the AX5s design better :)

            Winner: N/A

            Additional Important Aspects:
One thing you have to remember is that Samsung is a premium brand. If you're purchasing a Samsung phone, you're also purchasing Samsung support, and becoming part of the Samsung ecosystem. I'm not completely sure on this, but I would imagine Samsung should have better after-sales support compared to Oppo :)

          • +1

            @djoz: Alright lol I'm done :)

        • @zackeroo good writeup but are you saying your review isn't based on real life experience? anyhow, what's your opinion of this vs Oppo A52

          • @nudy: My review isn't based on real life experiences, instead, it's just a condensed version of the information you receive from a spec-sheet/online hands-on reviews :)

Edit: Oh and also, I won't do a long review on the two phones, but the Oppo A52 throws the G8 Power out of the park here. There's not much comparison as it is pretty much better in every way. The A52 honestly seems like an amazing phone overall, considering the much higher than average camera, huge battery, good screen, modern design, and decent Snapdragon performance

    • Seems like a good bang for buck phone for basic use needs.

    • Strange that it was released with Android 9 (non lite is 10) and from my experience with previous Motorola phones it will never be updated to 10 .

      • +1

I stand corrected . First thing the phone did after setup was update to Android 10 …

  • +5

    no 5ghz WiFi

    Should be illegal

    • +2

      As should micro USB

    • In real life I find no difference when I switch to 5ghz.

I considered this but passed when it was ~200 and got an Umidigi A9 Pro for 165 delivered. I am impressed with the A9 to this point but early days.

    • I agree I think I bought Umidigi A9 Pro for $99 deal and for last few months it is going smoooth… without any trouble for sure.. !

      • $99? Wow what a bargain.

        • +1

just checked my cost and I bought for $140 (eBay discount plus coupon code) for 128gb plus 6gb ram and at that time they had another model for $99.

I am not regretting a bit for last 1 month…. as i received delivery on 9/feb/2021…!

i will buy umidigi in future over xiaomi or huwai because they provide stock version of android so no annoying OS also they provide cover for the phone and apply protective glass on the phone … ! even apple don't do this service… ! best thinking for customer… !

      • Where did you get it for $99?
