  • Will this will work without an external antenna?

    • don't know, but i would think that u would need one because it has the plug-in point for it. might work if your out side in a metro area, with out it?

    • It does include a small indoor antenna about 10cm high

    • External antenna must be needed. I had one and I couldn't scan even a single channel in melbourne metro area because it's builtin antenna is very poor.

one of the reviews said this:

Although this unit is a really good bargain, I think they should be a little clearer in their statement of "receives all digital stations". The fact is that it will not receive all stations as it considers '7mate' 'Gem' '1' and whichever other channels which are in 1080, as they consider this to be "HD"… even though these channels ARE picked up on SD Digital set tops or TV setups as a standard Def, otherwise I would not get them on my SD Digital TV at home, which of coarse I do.. This is not clearly stated on the box or the website. But in a small, almost offhand reference in the manual itself, and though it does lock onto the channel on the 7" unit, it states that it will not receive "HD".
I'm disappointed that I have to find this out after I bought it, as I would probably never have bought it in the first place, but looked for something that actually does receive all the channels. Also, there is an option on the unit to update SW via usb, which is a good option, but there is no reference to any website where we can obtain such an update, and I’ve looked online to no avail.

Pros: good quality size ease of use

Cons: doesnt receive all channels as it states

      clearly states "SD DVB-T compliant"

SD set top boxes do not pick up HD channels, so you must have an HD set top box if you are receiving those HD channels, and not an SD.

I like how it has a remote… how far away can you sit from a 7" screen ;)

    • Probably more likely that the buttons on the unit itself are impossible to use.

On a lot of these cheapy electronics (like my usb music player), there are hardly any physical buttons and the remote is the ONLY way to control most of the functions.

    • When its output-ing to other larger display perhaps?

Are these new or another 2nd hand goods offload like the one I got in one of your previous promos http://www.news.com.au/technology/dick-smith-busted-outrage-…

    BUYER BEWARE, enough said.

  • From the reviews its obviously not a great TV (and has poor to no reception) but a cheap and reasonable option if you just want a screen to play stuff from a USB for the kids.

However, just noticed that the battery life is 90 minutes so maybe good for short trips only!

I have had one of these for about 18mths. Battery life is short and sensitivity is low - I cannot get all SD channels 2kms LOS from Nth Head aerials.

Better off getting a dual sim Chinese phone that has DTV built in. (tune it to Singapore in the settings)

    • yeah i've bought 2 of those tv phones, work surprisingly well overall but to be fair they did cost closer to $100 than $60!
i also have a smaller screen dtv Laser unit, internal antenna is useless even for inner city, if you're not prepared to use external aerial forget it!

These things have really poor reception, even using a roof mounted antenna with a masthead booster. Unless you know for a fact that your reception is very strong, don't bother. It couldn't pickup any ABC or Nine streams here on the Gold Coast, yet on our TVs, PVRs and HTPCs the signal and quality is over 95%.

after problems with my ds mp3 player dont think il be buying another product from ds again, left a bad review on their website then seem to disappear after a few days

    • You do know that most of the DS products have a 1 year exchange warranty?

  • A Complete joke. This isn't worth $5. The battery life, and resolution and quality is so poor it makes me sick.
