    Hi guys,

    Apologies … there was a misunderstanding!

    There is no cashback on Plasma TV's - it only applies to Samsung LED TV's.

    I just want to share my personal experience about Samsung PS64D8000. I bought from one of HN store in WA. 1st TV delivered TV have 1/4 of the screen TV gone completely white. this was happening straight away out from the box. Then they replace me with 2nd TV (exact same model), it only last for 45mins after I plugged into power point and the screen gone black.

    Based on the information I got from HN, few TV for this model has come back with issues. They told me that, this issues seems appears only to a certain 'BATCHES' which they believe fault while manufacturing or assembling the TV. I understand this issues are cover under SAMSUNG, but I heard few horror story where some people have to wait around 4 weeks for TV component to get their TV fix. I personally love this TV, but due to bad experience that I got I decided not to get this TV.

        I am sorry but I don't understand what you mean as I've never got a used product from dick smith stating as new, Please provide an explanation as in my opinion dse are the best techxperts as compared to jb and harvey norman

          Dick Smiths used to have a change of mind policy where you could return a product for any reason within 14 days , now these products wouldnt go back to suppliers but would be resold. With an advertised policy like that it would be hard to keep track of new / used products. I understand all retailers would probably do the same thing on occasions but the percentages would be far lower….and that resoning is backed up by the fact that the policy was changed not long ago.

          Now everyone can neg me all they like but there is no way that a place called 2nds world that deals in refurbished / repacked products is getting a better price on a product than a retailer that deals in new goods. Its far more likely to be products that had a "no fault found" situation that are repacked and re sold.

          Like I said its all about trust.

        • Dick Smith scratched the 14 day change of mind policy primarily due to optical media piracy.

          People would simply buy any game/app/movie/audio CD they liked, copy it and return it.
          Most of the software items couldn't be resold because the CD-Keys/Serials were already in use.

          At least that's what I've been told by at least 5 separate Dicksmith employees.

          ugoagogo, please don't suggest that 2nds world is selling anything other than what they claim to be.

          Just because they specialise in 2nd hand goods does not mean they will sell you 2nd hand goods when they claim that it is brand new. There is no proof at all, and further no reason why they won't get a lower price on new goods than other retailers.

          There's been news coverage about shady activities occurring in DSE, but no evidence regarding 2ndsworld. I thought it's important to point this out.

      2.6k?? That bought you a 42inch 720p panel 6-7 years ago. This thing is an absolute bargain at that price, if you wan't extra warranty PAY FOR IT.

        I think what mattgal was driving at is that Samsung is not showing their confidence in the reliability and longevity of the TV. I sort of agree because new does not necessarily mean longer lasting.

        2.6k is a lot of money for most people. They should be absolutely confident that something that expensive to last more than a year, without paying for extra warranty, albeit it is completely optional on the part of the manufacturer to offer more than 1 year warranty.

          Most will tell you that panel TVs(LCD and Plasma) will generally be no good out of the box, or pretty safe for the long term. Either way, this is a premium product demanding a premium price. If someone can't afford it with their preferred warranty period, get a smaller panel. Simple. Bottom line is - This is a very cheap price for what you're getting at current market and considering what it costed 18 months ago.

        you can't buy extra manufacturer's warranty; an insurance policy against an item not working (aka. "extended warranty") is not same.
        The definition of "not working" is whatever the insurance policy specifies in its fine print.

      Pretty standard these days (I remember having a 5 year warranty on my Pioneer plasma, but then I did pay ridiculous amounts of money for it all those years ago).

      Should definitely get the extended warranty when it comes to Samsung products though - I'm just about to ring up the extended warranty people to fix my one and half year old plasma, although it's not totally impossible to get Samsung to fix it if it was just out of warranty or if you argue on statutory warranty grounds.

      Just check the fine print on the extended warranty though, especially when it comes to replacement (whether you have a choice in what the replacement set will be, whether you can put additional money towards a better model, for example), and also see if there's a "no-lemon" clause that grants you a replacement for a set that gets fixed too many times.

        Regardless of the warranty offered by the manufacturer (Samsung in this case) consumers are provided with explicit legislated protection under Australian Consumer Law which provides a guarantee that goods be be of acceptable quality, durable, fit for purpose and free from defects (having regard to purchase price and usage). This means that if you pay $2.6K for this TV and it was to break down in, say 3 years, then, regardless of the warranty offered by the manufacturer, you would have a very strong case that the TV was not of acceptable quality (particularly if there is a known issue with the product) and you are entitled to expect a full repair, replacement or refund. So, while extended warranties provide peace of mind and makes things a bit easier when it comes to a claim, you really are well protected by Australian consumer protection legislation anyway.         And for what it's worth, this seems like a great deal to me.

        • This is what I meant by "statutory warranty grounds", but it usually involves a lot of back and forth with the retailer/manufacturer, written letters, and possibly meaning having to get consumer affairs involved at some stage. Also, you'll have to show that the price you paid means you are justified to seek free service/replacement/refund after x years of use, and while that's easy when the TV is just out of warranty, it may be harder as you approach the end of the (usually) 5 year extended warranty period (it's fair to expect that any electronics over $1000 should last at least 5 years, but reality today suggests otherwise, especially when the same 64" TV was costed twice as much just 2 years ago).

          Basically, have a read through this and if you don't think it is too much trouble to fight for your statutory rights, then you can definitely risk not having an extended warranty (and some extended warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed out, and for something like $2600, you shouldn't really need to pay much more than $200 for a +4 year extended warranty, and even that may be a bit expensive):

      Ok, we get your point.

      A simple search of your posts shows that you've got some axe to grind with Samsung.

      As other's have mentioned, just ensure you get extended manufacturer warranty.

      Numerous companies got ripped off when they bought bad capacitors a few years back.

    • I've got a 3-year old, PS50B450 (50" Plasma). Absolutely no issues.

    Be warned people, these things have an energy rating of 1100kWh per year, that's 1.1 gigawatt hours per year!! That is a LOT of power, more than running a full size freezer. It's more than double the samsung 55" TV listed here (at 497) and is definately enough power to heat your room up a few degrees. This equates to approx $300 per year if you use it for the amount of time they specify in the standard. If you use it more then your bill could double.

    • not gigawatt, just megawatt hours, but what else do you expect for such a gigantic TV ?

      for those who don't know what the "standard" is (I didn't and still don't), the assumption is 6 hours per day for the whole 365 days per year.

      although Rules of Engagement is on more now so its money well spent :)

      So you spend a little more on running costs but also save on heating bills in winter? Sounds like a win. :)

      I'm interested in this model but sounds like there's a few problems with a buzzing noise from the panel which has put off somewhat. Good price though.

      • The buzzing noise is apparently quite common on the Samsung TVs. I've got the same problem with mine, it started making this buzzing noise not too long ago, it drives me insane at times.

  • I just bought one of these and will share my experience. Although I didn't pay as low as this, I think it is possible to get a price close to this from a B&M store with all the sales on now.

    Compared it side by side with a Panasonic VT30 and preferred the picture of the Samsung. Most forums will tell you that the Samsung has better colour accuracy while the Panasonic produces better blacks. Judge with your own eyes.

    PROS - Probably the best picture of any TV on the OZ market right now.
    CONS - Buzz audible within 1m of the unit. Even if you test in store, the issue is intermittent depending on what is being displayed;
    - Grey Bezel is annoying also. Should have stuck with black, Samsung.
