    oh, led? :^)

Better to pay the additional and get a CX model for $2570

    • +4

hoping the CX comes down closer to 2k in coming month/s with release of 2021 models. Wonder if we'll see sub 2k like the C9 last year!?

      • +6

From what I've read, new 2021 models will come in cheaper than the 2020 models did at release, so I'm hoping these '20 models get a solid discount!

      • +14

So glad I jumped a couple of years ago when 55" oled was $1600.

        • +4

Oh how I regret horribly not jumping when those deals were a thing. You definitely made the best decision with that. Curious though which model you got. C9 for about $1770 or so was the best deal I remember seeing.

        • was that B series or C series?

          • +3

@lostn: I paid $1735 delivered for my 55" C9. Furious at not getting the 65" for less than a grand more.

            • @d3ft: that's a sweet deal. I would have jumped in myself if I'd known CX pricing would be what it is.

        • I got a B8 for around that price. Amazing deal, especially since OLED TVs were even more niche than they are now.

        • +1

I got a 55" C9 for about $1850 in Dec 19. Super thankful I didn't wait. Been great during lockdown - a dark TV for dark times.

        • B7 life

        • What happened to the market that caused such a price spike? Covid?

          • +1

@Bunnyburger: LG raised prices before covid. For whatever reason. Maybe just early product cycle on new models? Could be covid after that.

Or they possibly "Pulled an Apple", so to speak.

Minor differences, probably the most stand out feature I noticed is the amount of HDMI ports that support version 2.1 otherwise they are almost identical.

      • I think the HDMI 2.1 thing will become less trivial as time goes on, so unless you're a frequent upgrader I think that matters.

But bigger than that for me is that with the "X" generation, they changed a long standing thing that the B shared the exact same panel as the C (and I think the E?). Not sure if it's just software, but the X generation made it so the B has a lower peak brightness than the C (you can see it in your Rtings comparison). If you have the TV in a low-light environment, probably not a big deal. But if it's going to be used with blinds open during the day, the C is worth it for that extra punch.

    • +1

I just ordered one for myself! I live in Japan and they have a 48 inch model, which is perfect for me and my tiny apartment. Cost me about AU$1600. I CAN NOT WAIT.

@bio: Called good guys first and price matched the Appliance Central deal for 3550 and then asked what they can do if i buy 2 and they said they can do 3250 for each. Took that and called jbhifi and said good guys gave me that offer and then gave me 3200 offer for each.

And why the hell do i have -2 votes?

            huh?

        • You guys are absolute legends

    • how did you get that price?

      • You can usually negotiate, especially depending on the stage in the life cycle.

Around this time last year I got the 65" B9 for around $2450 from TGG when the list price was $2999 just by asking around.

Actually wanted the C9 but the discount offered wasn't good enough compared to the B9 so the B9 it was.

        • Yea just a few months late when they had the C9 for around $2600 from good guys too.

Hopefully we will see some sharp pricing if this is anything to go by:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzEZ_l_9j5A

        • Exactly. Sounds like they're gonna be competitively priced compared to last year's models which is why they're not announcing them yet until they clear the old stock

  • BX 65" @ $3,070 is very tempting

  • +1

from what I have read the new models are meant to be cheaper than the current range.

  • Still waiting for the 77" OLED for around $5000…..

    Edit:
    Hang on, whats this?
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-77-inches-c9-4k-uhd-smart-…

    Cant find stock though :(

    • Going by the YouTube vid above, the C177 could launch for around $6k AUD, as the prices for the 77 look like they may be finally in line with the pricing steps of the 65 / 55.

  • Have been loving the 65" CX since getting it last week. The Myer sale put it in my budget, and I had $700 of credit with Myer (a store I don't shop at often), so it was a sensible option for me.

I wonder how far off the 2021 replacement models are from being announced.

    • Hey. How long did it take for your order to arrive? I ordered last Friday and still no update from Myer.

      • +2

Myer took one week just to confirm ready for pickup of a tommy H t-shirt… they’re not quick!

      • It was stuck in "Preparing" on the order tracking.

I rang them up to confirm I was going to receive it, as when I placed my order the store listing immediately changed to "Out of Stock" and I was concerned that they wouldn't have a unit to fulfil my order. They were able to confirm over the phone that I had indeed been allocated a unit, and it was delivered 2 days later. Overall, I think it took 8 days.

Give them a call via the MyerOne service if you're a member.

        • +1

My current situation is exactly like how you described, I'll give them a call. Thanks for the help.

    • +1

The CX handles reflection very well.

There's also a tonne of Dolby Vision content on Disney+ and Apple TV. We've started watching a lot more content on those services, so the majority of what we watch justified the investment into a better HDR presentation.

    • +1

Some people have (dark) theatre rooms.

The smart gui experience and available apps varies greatly. Cheaper can be killer regardless of panel type.

I'm just saying that youre off the mark for many people.

I agree so far as don't buy an oled for a bright room. I did and it was a mistake.

55" is not too small lol. Your average household does not even have 55".

    • +1

      Ok
Not to be the devils advocate, but i bought a $1200 tv 4 years ago with HDR and probably 30-40% of the footage is HDR off Netflix or PS4 and it does make a considerable difference.
My parents bought an LG OLED and i can comfortably say the difference is night and day with the blacks and brightness/detail of scenes so much so that I'm now looking to upgrade to one. The OLEDS also perform much better in standard viewing conditions as well in terms of Picture quality.

The stronger Aussie dollar will hopefully do wonders, if only we could get American prices here.

    • +2

      Agreed, sort of.
Go check out OLEDs at JB and then you will realise why everyone is hard for them.
I own an R7 series Samsung, picture is vomit compared to OLEDs.

    • +1

This entire post is utter bollocks.

    • +2

I disagree with you and agree with everyone else. The reflections is all about the surface material mainly, and that's as good as anything else. Brightness figures of these are better than the LCDs most people have from a few years back who bitch about OLED brightness haha. And really, overall brightness is not the whole picture. All that is is an intense LED behind the panel in your face washing out some things you don't want washed out. The brightness paired with the extreme contrast at a pixel by pixel level means you can have the blackest of blacks right next to a pixel that is the maximum brightness. Then right next to that could be the blackest of blacks again. That contrast makes it far more effective than just sticking a brighter torch behind the panel and touting the brightness figure, while washing out the black in the middle and making it grey.

How many people spend all day during the day with the curtains fully open and the sun beaming directly onto the tv panel anyway? That's just a poor setup. Rearrange your room and close a curtain. I'd also be surprised if many people who can afford these aren't working during the day rather than watching movies lol. Or at the very least, can afford a curtain and can arrange their room appropriately for their TV usage. Anything short of direct sunlight on the panel is definitely not an issue.

Gone are the days of the sub 2k OLED?

    • +1

Yeah I got a 55" B7 for $1499 lol on an amazing deal. Literally has never been a better deal on the equivalent model. But crazy how double that is actually now a price people happily pay for them. At least that makes me feel good about my purchase, despite the fact it's superseded now a few models over. Still a great TV. And still getting OS and app updates even this month.

      • +1

Nice deal. I got the Panasonic FZ950 for like $1850 I think. I would like the 48 inch OLED as a gaming TV though.

  • +3

Got the 75x90h for $2295 with that price error from a few weeks back, anyone think the 65inch OLEDs will get anywhere near that price in the coming months?

    • Maybe in years, not months.

      Great deal on the Sony.

      • Ok i will stop looking at TV bargains… for now :P

        • +1

Don't stop.. maybe if you very lucky.

I'm waiting for a reasonable priced 75inch OLED. Otherwise I'm still happy with my 65inch Panasonic Plasma.

          • @JimB: Am happy with the Sony and hopefully won't be pinching myself seeing prices fall

          • @JimB: I have been looking for 75" and above OLED TV and waiting for good deal to pull the trigger. Hopefully in month or two new model TVs will be released and hope to see some good bargain on OLED TV's.

            • +1

@The king: Hopefully.. don't forgot to tag me if you see a 'bargain'.

Unfortunately I don't think we are going to see any reasonably priced large OLEDs any time soon.

There's only LG and Sony left in the Aust Market (for OLED) and the fact LG makes the panels for Sony, due to lack of competition, there's no business case for LG to drive prices down.

I'll probably wait for my 10yo Plasma to die.. picture quality on 1080P is still excellent. As is watching FTA is still acceptable. FTA look terrible on LED TVs.

I don't really feel like spending $5-6k on a LG/Sony OLED only to get a 1 year warranty. Being a premium product, I would expect at least 3 years warranty.

Would be great it a company such as Hisense started making OLED to drive prices down, they provide a 3 year warranty on all their products. You can see why their market share is growing. These days, I'd buy a Hisense over Samsung. I don't have faith in Samsung TVs and appliances anymore.

              • @JimB: Sure mate, I will keep in mind and definitely tag you if i see any good deals.

I agree with you, lack of competition will not going bring price down and may be new models of mini LED TV's will going to make some price drop for last year OLED TVs.

I am not in rush to buy TV and happy to wait to get good bargain. Waiting games continues :)

                • @The king: Thanks Elvis.

I too am hoping that mini LED will push prices for OLED down.

Unfortunately mini LED is still a while away (if it comes at all) and won't outperform OLED on PQ.

I won't get LED (mini or overwise) due to the viewing angle. If I can't watch my TV while cooking in my kitchen, then I'm not buying it.

                  • @JimB: Planning setup theater room with big screen, though our room is not that dark and also the main purpose for me is to watch movies and sports only.
I am not really much worried about 2.1 HDMI requirement. as long as any TV is fulfill the above with good bargain am happy with that.

                  • @JimB: Mini LED is here now. You can buy Samsungs Neo QLED range right now. Were you thinking micro LED? Though that should have the same picture quality as OLED, or even better as they're still self emmisive and should get brighter than OLED.

                    • @TheContact: Neo QLED looks quite expensive may be because just arrived.
                      https://www.binglee.com.au/tech/tv-video/neo-qled-tvs

                    • @TheContact: I'm not up to date on Mini or Micro LED but I do know picture quality is still not as good as OLED.

Yes, it is brighter but viewing angle is not as good.

Good thing is consumers have better LEDs and choice.

                      • @JimB: That'd be miniLED, which is still LCD with significantly more advanced FALD. MicroLED is basically OLED without the traditional drawbacks of OLED, though it has issues with it's own, difficulty in manufacturing being a big one.

                        • @TheContact: Thanks.. is MicroLED going to be equally or more expensive than OLED? If so, then that doesn't help me.. lol

                          • @JimB: It'd be significantly more.

                            • @TheContact: Maybe I'll be a late adopter to MicroLED if it's going to be more than OLED.

              • @JimB: I've got a Hisense from 2016 and it's a good set but I've heard some of the new models have issues. This was 2020 models. Maybe 2021 will go back to being good.
Also under ACL you can argue that if you have paid a lot for something it should last at least a few years.

                • @Geoff-bargain: I haven't researched about the Hisense issue.

I agree that under ACL a premium TV should last more than 3 years, however it's hit and miss and not 'guaranteed'.

To me, when manufacturers give 12 month warranty it's a sign they don't have a huge amount of faith in their products.

In year 5, it's easy for LG to say it's been out warranty for 4 years and deny the claim.

Sony and Hisense provide 3 years warranty on TVs. In year 5, you an argue it's only been out of warranty for 2 years, and I think you'll have a much better chance of goodwill repair (than being out of warranty for 4 years).

BMW/Audi provides 3 years warranty. Kia, 7 years. We all know that European cars are less reliable after year 5. Looks at own driveway and see 3 European cars but at least I'm not kidding myself.. lol

65" CX at $2500 deal or no deal..

Rumor has it C1 65" will be better price points than CX.. so hopefully they get back to glory status when they start rolling out.

    • +1

This is European price. We must be getting Australia tax added.

  • For those of you with access to union shopper through your work, I was quoted $2290 on the 55CX today. I’m tempted…the 65 was still $3300. Delivery on top is 55 bucks

  • If anyone know about the laser projector? Haven't see many deals around in OZB.

Not sure if I should spend $2000 to $3000ish for a new 65" TV, or just save up more to upgrade to the laser projector and the screen, I think the screen size is 100" to 120"?

Actually come to think of it, it is not even for me, I already forgot when is the last time I watch my TV sigh, it is mostly for my old man and mom…

So for those elders, which one is better? big TV or projector?

    Thanks in advance!

    • +1

TV, they already know how its works.

      • good point!

  • +4

Man its a shame Panasonic left the Australian Market.
LG has no competition apart from Sony's 1 model and people who want the best wont go from Plasma to LCD so have no choice but to pay top dollar.
I managed to get a FZ950 at a steal before they left the market. Absolutely phenomenal TV….The colour accuracy I believe is ahead of the LG OLED.

Anyone with a Plasma don't bother with LCD. Spend the money and go OLED, worth every cent.

    • No HDMI 2.1 or Gsync for you, farrk that

      • HDMI 2.1 is overstated at this point. It won’t make much difference on a decent set that can upscale 1080 over 120Hz. Unless you’re a hardcore PC gamer, in which case it will. LG have done a great job marketing their sets as the choice of gamers, but that’s all it is - marketing.

  • are these ok for ps5?

    • +1

The CX has HDMI 2.1 but I would wait for the C1 coming out soon. Others from the new 2021 range might be ok too because they are all meant to have HDMI 2.1 and the various features for consoles like VRR.
