Why its one of the safest when the car seat rating is 1.9 / 5 ?

Infa-Secure Lantra CS 7113 seems to have higher safety rating and cheaper

The CREP ratings on type G seats (in built harness from 12m-8y) don't accurately compare the safety of the seat in comparison to booster seats (car seat belt from 4+). In built harnesses are significantly safer and reduce the likelihood of severe injury as the impact is evenly spread across children's bodies rather than just across their chest and pelvis. This Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/childrestraints/?ref=share - offers a lot of information about child restraint safety in Australia :)

This. The testing is different. I asked that on a fb group, shame it won't let me copy paste the response.

Get the best type G you can. I did that research this morning and decided the britax maxi guard pro is what i thought was best. It doesn't win every criteria though.

The pro seemed worth it but the pro+ didn't.

The pro is $364 after 20% and 5% swap gift cards.

Ok so here is the answer I was given when I asked why boosters rate better on a similar facebook group. It's an amalgamation of two people's words and although the words are basically quoted, I've moved sentences about and dot pointed to try make it a little easier to read:

      • The convertible boosters are tested with a smaller test dummy.
      • The idea of CREP was promising, but it can't accomodate all the factors that come into play when picking a safe seat. And it doesn't take in to account best practice (I mean, you can't quantify that really). The biggest issue, is that it's actually quite complicated, and there's a lot you need to know before you can effectively use the site.
Experts recommend rear facing for as long as possible. Then harnessing for as long as possible. By experts, I mean actual experts, like RCH in Melbourne.
      • To follow this best practice, you need an A4 (as opposed to an A2) seat.
      • When they test the A2 seat, they test it rear facing with a 12 month equivalent dummy. When they test the A4 rear facing, they test it with a 30 month equivalent dummy.
      • Then you follow up with a Type G. (again, a Type G is tested with an "8 year old", while a convertible booster is tested in harnessed mode with a "4 year old". Not the same!)
      • CREP tests the seats against the standard category applicable to that seat. So the tolerance for forward excursion, for example, is different for each seat. A booster allows much more excursion than a harnessed seat.
      • But if the harnessed seat only beats the maximum tolerance by 10%, and the booster beats the allowable tolerance by 50%, the booster would get the better rating, even though the harnessed seat actually allowed less excursion.
      • All seats manufactured to AS NZS 1754 are incredibly safe. CREP rates these seats over and above incredibly safe.

just a reminder that if you have a car seat in your car, and you get into an accident, the seat should be replaced. Most insurance companies will not tell you this.

    • +1

Britax offer a crash exchange. They will swap your damaged seat for an equivalent new one so they can examine the seat and potentially make inprovements…not all seats are eligible but a better idea than just binning it and getting insurance to replace it IMO.
But you're right, a lot of insurers will have a limit on the value of the replacement seat.

  • what's the different between Guard, Guard Pro and Guard Pro +…

    • Well with the plus you get memory foam and a plus embroidered on the fabric.

      • worth paying extra $60 for those compare to guard?

        • It's more than $60. We already have a pro and no complaints. Bought another pro this morning.

If you think of it as lasting 8-10 years I guess it's possibly with it but nahhh imho.

Even though it's a 1-8year seat, I'd recommend rear facing for longer if you can. Most little necks wouldn't be developed enough by 6-12 months to be forward facing safely but many people will turn them just for the sake of having them forwards….disclaimer: I'm no expert, there's just a lot of evidence for extended rear facing.

    • +1

Yeah. I think most people buy this seat once the kid has outgrown a 0-4 rear facing one for that reason.

      • This is exactly what i'm doing :)

      • For us it was when we had our 2nd and our oldest was 2 and forward facing already. It made sense to move him to a bigger seat and reuse the first one for the new bub.

  • Been trying to find this info but haven't had much luck…

With the exception of the word "Britax"… What's the difference between Britax Safe-N-Sound and the Safe-N-Sound brand you find at Kmart and Target?

The Safe-N-Sound logo/typeface appears the same, is the non "Britax" ones just a budget version?

    Kmart

    • Britax customer service have been really helpful to me when I’ve contacted them, maybe you could ring them and ask. It’s a very good question and I’m interested to know the answer!

Bought one, was looking at a third seat.
We own two other Britax's and have no issue with them.
Glad we saw this on sale, thanks Op for sharing!

We have two of these, I think they’re great
